Ashby deserved better. He leaves with the bases juiced after walking the next batter. He had the inning over with a quick DP. Not to be. That was actually a better outing than we've seen of late. We'll take it.

Quad City gets the 2 runs and keep the TRats off the board. 5-0 final.

Meanwhile a laugher in Fredericksburg 15-1

Sounds look to Middendorf to close it out

And Shuckers get two men on but can’t score. Gardner stays in to keep it tied I hope. 3-3 bottom 8.

And they break through. Hall singles, Sparks singles the Martin triples them home.

Then Boeve with a high chopper that goes just over the drawn in but leaping 2B, and it’s 6-3  yay boy!

Wilken GIDP - a tough 0-5 with 3K night for him. Then Miller strikes out and it’s off to the bottom of the ninth.

Middendorf is sitting at 97-98 mph right now. He has a 20 mph difference between the four-seamer and the curveball. He also has a cutter. He remains a very serious MLB relief corps candidate in seasons ahead. Still has some location fine-tuning to do for sure but the stuff has only gotten better over the past season plus in Triple-A. Miles to go. LOVE the foundation he's established in 2024.

Casey frickin' Martin. My goodness. He scorched that 2-1 pitcher to straightaway CF. He hits the bases in a hurry and stretches it to a 2-RBI triple. He has had two absolutely huge hits in the past week. I absolutely friggin' LOVE it for the young man! Let's GO!!!!

Yawn. Yawn. Derp. Derp. Just another organizationl 8-1 (DSL-up to- MLB) performance on the Day. I mean. This season as a whole macro birds eye organizational view...just filled with WINNERS. Why not end a Biloxi comeback 'W' with a leaping web gem snare from EBJ? LOVE it.

Yeager goes ground out (off his leg) for a simple 1-3 put out for out #1.

Then fools him with a nice ? curve. And then pure heat and it’s a K. 2 outs!

Last man up and lines it heading to LF for a single but No Way Not Today say EBJ. Snares the last out. Sweet. Great come from behind win.

its a 7-1 day/night for the affiliates.

For those who love milb it’s days like today you dream of. Bigs wins. Promotions. Big hits. Comebacks. Blow outs. Nice pitching performances.  All around.
Oh yeah and Manuel Rodriguez. I mean he works around contact. And he *only* gets through 4 IP. I mean he must lead the organization in average IP per start or at least top 3-5 right?  If Miz had the composure and efficiency he has, or if Manuel had some of Miz’s raw stuff….

‘So how did the brewers do tonight? 😉

Can we talk about the three different doubles Cooper Pratt hit tonight?!? Sharp grounder over the 3B bag. Legs out a gapper to left CF - all hustle. Absolutely rocks a deep fly off the wall in right CF. The young man continues to ascend. He is only getting started. AND, my goodness, he has power. You don't see it in the end stats quite yet. BUT, as a near everyday watcher, he has it in him already. It is only a matter of time. Only a matter of time.

JB Bukauskas had another three up three down inning for Nashville, now up to four scoreless frames with 2 H | 0 BB | 3 K since coming off the IL.

I tweeted basically the same thing a few hours ago haha.

“Dude has range. 1st double was a grounder down the LF line over the 3B bag, 2nd double was a hustle double to the gap in left center, 3rd double was a rope to the wall in right center.”

Indeed! Max exit velo allowed tonight? 94.3 mph. Max exit velo on the slider? 67.7 mph. Touched 94.6 mph on his sinker. AND, only needed 12 pitches in his inning tonight. Just efficient. Knows who he is execution. Will be such a depth boon when he's built his innings up to have such a steady guy to call up.

Nice to see some of the great individual games by top prospects. Two doubles, a single and a walk from Yophery as well. He can still stand to lower the K rate, but the list of 18-year-olds in their second affiliated season who have hit better than him since 2021? It reads Chourio, Basallo, Walcott (If you want to toss Salas in there for earning a high-A spot last year, go ahead). That is pretty good company to keep.

AND, he set the tone for the entire game. First pitch absolute dart dub to the RF wall. He came out aggressive and with purpose and pounced. Fantastic game from him. He gets a mention in my Carolina section of tomorrow morning's report. Continue to love the baseline we are seeing there. AND, as a general 'rule when discussing Yophery I personally lead with his defense. He plays incredibly hard on that CF grass. Incredibly hard. His reads and jumps are solid. What he loses in range from the burners he gains back with his 100% all out effort. Has a decent arm as well. Very agile.

I'll be pounding the table for this point til I die a Brewers fan:

Brian Navarreto gets zero recognition or kudos from the fanbase. All he does is hit clutch knocks. He is responsible for both Sounds runs. He just hit an oppo double to RF to send in the go-ahead run. Roller now just hit a go-ahead Sac Fly. It's 3-1. Nava on 2B. Two down.

*Of course, this speaks to no aspect of his fantastic catching ability behind the plate. Just such an unsung fantastic player.

Frankly, he's the guy I'd call on if Milwaukee needed to dip down for a catcher (IF we only had two C's & IF one of them had to go on the IL for a spell). In the mold of a Manny Pina or a Marty Maldonado. An underappreciated luxury in the system.

Makes you appreciate the depth of talent throughout the system. It wasn't long ago an 18-yr-old putting up more than acceptable numbers in low-A would be heralded by folks who follow the farm. Now he's kinda flying under the radar. Damn, I love the depth they've built.

Man, Hedbert Perez taking strays and he's been mostly injured for two seasons! I continue to believe in Perez's swing. The results certainly haveno't been there consistently like any of us would like. BUT, when he's been healthy he has been a winner in Zebulon. Still just 21 years old through early April of next year.

I've been meaning to ask lately...

Have the recent successes of Luis Castillo (only 20), and to a lesser degree, Eduardo Garcia (only 22(!)), given our collective any hope that they can rekindle their borderline top 20 prospect status? Castillo, I believe, received a big bonus, and Garcia, I think, has a big-league body and plays big-league defense at short.

First WOW, that is so impressive. I have been a big fan of Yophery. And Baez too. We forget he is only 6 months older than Yophery, but had another year of action (DSL in '22, ACL in '23, and low A in '24).

Yophery is cutting down on the K. I can't find a source that gives monthly splits with advanced metrics. But looking at raw data, his K rate (calculated as K/(AB+BB) since I can't find monthly splits on HBP or SF etc) has gone from 35% in April, to 26% in May, to 21-22% in June/July. It is 16% this month in only a handful of games. But he is trending in the acceptable 20-25% K rate range, for a guy with power that's something I can live with. But a trend down showing he has improved somewhat is nice to see for a guy that young.

Can kind of get there using date range feature on the FanGraphs game logs.

Just splitting the season into rough two month chunks it looks like he’s at…

0405 thru 0604 (213 PAs)
243/343/400 (120 wRC+)
12.2 BB% | 29.1 K%

0605 thru 0806 (158 PAs)
289/373/459 (141 wRC+)
12.7 BB% | 20.3 K%

Well, the early 'concerns' with Garcia (from a prospect perspective) even when he was a Top 20 guy - as recently as 2022...my how the winds can change direction - were his bat issues and tendencies essentially pigeon-holed him with a prognosis as a Utility guy upside. He continues to be a victim of his inability to consistently identify and lay off off speed tailing away and outside the zone - his kryptonite. At this present juncture, despite his young age, I would classify him as a depth player in the system. He'll likely give you solid defense on the infield left of first base -so giving any team roster flexibility - while occupying the 6-to-9 spots in a batting order. Beyond that, I just don't think there is any prolonged track record to proclaim more at this point in time.
