Only a .5 game back of the Dodgers and 1.5 behind the Phillies for the #1 and #2 spot.

Technically 1.5 back of the Dodgers because they have the tiebreaker over us. We also would need to sweep Philly in September to have a chance at the tiebreaker over them. Any loss would give them the tiebreaker, so I'd probably just consider it 1.5 and 2.5 games back.

Technically yes but still have a month of baseball left so even at 1.5 and 2.5 games that is within striking distance.  It also looks like the Dodgers at least will have to fend off the Padres and Dbacks for the NL West.  The Dodgers have 4 games left against the Dbacks and 3 against the Padres.  Though the Padres series is during the last week of the season and the Dbacks is at the end of this month and the beginning of September.

A positive for the Dodgers is that the Padres and Dbacks face each other in the last series of the season.  So if they are still close to both of the teams one will be eliminated by default.

Noticed only 3 K for Freddy tonight. Are there any peripheral indicators we should be concerned about?

Seems like he normally is good for a strikeout per inning.

He just made a concerted effort to pitch to contact tonight. Said so in the post game.

He is only 28 and I'm hoping he isn't on a downward swing already, but as other good pitchers age they have to change there style of pitching. We just seen Clayton Kershaw and his fastball has dropped 5-6 mph since his rookie season and it seems it has just happened quicker to Freddy Peralta.

By the same token, if the focus is the Dodgers, the Brewers would have to fend off the Padres and DBacks too. They currently lead the Padres by 1.5 games and the DBacks by 2.5. Those 2 teams have been by far the best in the NL since the beginning of June. The Padres hold the tiebreaker over the Brewers, having won the season series 5-2

I look at the chase for the bye as two separate races. One is against the Phillies and the other is against the 3 NL West teams. The Brewers have to win at least one of them.

If you’re looking ahead, the last couple weeks of the season could be interesting. In their last 16;games the Brewers play all 7 of their games against the DBacks, 3 against the Phillies, and 3 against the Mets, who are also fighting for a wild card spot.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

Makes sense. He was effective enough over 6 IP. Can’t complain.

Freddy is averaging the highest FB velo if his career this season. He just made an effort to pitch to contact last night

If that is what he did it is good news, I did not know that.

But they obviousy chose the route of pitching to contact for a reason.

Given how often his pitch count balloons, this philosophy is an understandable adjustment. I’d like him to find a happy medium, though.

Cleveland is 4th in MLB with a team strikeout percentage of 19.8%.

I think that's ultimately what he's searching for. On paper his stuff in 2024 is as good as it's ever been, but he's struggled to find both consistency and results. I think he's trying to find what works best for him right now.
