The Brewers have a major 1B problem. These dudes suck at hitting and are terrible defensively.

The only reason Jake Bauers has a job is because he's less awful than Rhys defensively at 1st and he's left handed.

And he's like a son to Pat Murphy for some reason.

Has any manager been given more positive praise for making horrible decisions all year long? I'm baffled by this. Watch this team day in day out and you realize they are being held back a bit by the manager.

I just don't know what they can do at this point. We will have by far the weakest first base offense in the playoffs.

Hoskins has gotten to the point where he's unplayable.

It sure seems like this team’s downfall will be its offense by year’s end like many of our teams in recent years.

Is anyone really going to be all that surprised if we get swept in the WC round again this year?

The problem is that his platoon mate is actually worse.

This is ridiculous horse crap baseball.     All you have to do is make contact with a guy on third and you win one of these games.   And you can’t freaking do it

these last 13 magic number games could be a slog with the schedule we have left

I would really love to see us bring up Miz and Yoho and cut bait with Milner and Peguero. I just don’t know why we can’t quit those two.

Don't even need to cut bait with Peguero as he has an option. Unfortunately, Murph declared post-game yesterday they were committed to giving him "more opportunities". Yay!

It will be a bigger surprise if they don't.

They’ve been better overall than previous years, but Turang being only average, and Contreras getting a little tired down the stretch, and Hoskins doing nothing, and Perkins starting to look more like a pumpkin than Cinderella, and everybody else in the OF over drinking age being completely punchless, AND Yelich gone, all at the same time? That sure doesn’t feel like a winning postseason formula.

I’m just glad the tournament doesn’t start tomorrow.

At least we’ll make the playoffs.

Another thing that Murph is really butchering lately is his insistence on hitting Bauers/Hoskins/Perkins behind Chourio. Twice in the last two days it cost us in extra innings as they were able to intentionally walk Chourio with runners on.

Chourio

Contreras

Adames

That needs to be Chourio's protection. Who gives a crap about alternating R-L.

Almost certainly. And I’d have been mildly surprised at that in March.

And yet…when a team sits with this kind of differential this late in the year, another participation medal looks a little tinny…

Great job Rhys.

Too many empty at bats again tonight. Same as last night.

Rhys should not be batting behind our best hitter ... Jackson Chourio is not going to see good pitches (or any pitches) with a Mendoza-line hitter behind him in the lineup.

That was Bauers tonight (0.195).

Hoskins didn't even play tonight except for his pinch hit wiff in the 10th.

I loved Bill Schroeder feigning surprise that the Cards were walking a rookie (Chourio) to get to a veteran (Hoskins). At least I assumed he was feigning as I don't think he's senile.

I think the strike zone was terrible for both teams, but we let it get into our heads while StL really didn't. I've heard a lot of wailing on here about taking strike threes, but for my money chasing out of the zone hurts at least as much if not more, and it certainly did tonite. It didn't help that Gray seems to be one of those guys that recognizes indecision, over-agressiveness, whatever you want to call it & plays it like a Stradivarius against you. I know he hit a couple balls hard, but rather than focusing in & stepping up Mitchell really shrinks in big situations. The large amount of ABs he's missed since being drafted really rears its' ugly head with him at times.

For all the failures offensively I put the biggest onus on the Contreras AB. He can't touch the ball when that might've been all it takes, but Ox Baker or whatever his name is can actually sneak one through for a hit after looking none too good dealing with changeups (for all his struggles this year I thought Milner worked him just about perfectly).

Maybe Rae thought it was a 7:10 start?
