Do we have any good reason why this wasn't done sooner? From all I heard, Josh's back tightened up on him the day of his last playing - 5/2. Here we are nearly a month later and the Brewers used no IL placement and are just getting imaging done? This is a premium prospect. Strange approach if you ask me (I am aware nobody has asked me. I just wanted to emote, I guess 😆)

Like Josh, I have been dealing with lower back issues lately and am going in for imaging tomorrow.  I can't speak for what's going on with him, but 2.5 weeks ago it took me three hours to get out of bed in the morning with pain so intense I was sweating.

Lower backs are a funny thing.  For me, I felt fine during the day.  But when I would lay down for any length of time, even to take a nap for 20 minutes, it would stiffen up or spasm on me when I would try to get up.

You do want the back to calm down before doing imaging.  First, you don't want to spasm on the MRI table and not be able to get up.  Second, if there's swelling you want that to subside first for clearer imaging.

So, my guess is that he feels fine most of the time and has been rehabbing, only to have it relapse lately.

Not quite a transaction, but a notable similar event. Bishop Letson is scheduled to start on Saturday

Did anyone hear why Bishop did not start last night?

He's been dealing with a shoulder issue.

Wouldn't be shocked if Eric Bitonti get called up to Wisconsin today. 4 homeruns in the past 2 games for the Mudcats.

First Base is pretty crowded in the system with EMJ, Black, Boeve, Adams, and Burke at the higher levels.

Think Bitonti’s going to need to reduce his 34.8 K% quite a bit before he gets the bump.

Gotta think, of the non-pitching Mudcats who may move up middle-end of this month, Bitonti will be down the line, behind Pena & Made.  Unless this hot week can continue ....

I can see it if Burke gets moved up to AA, but there doesn't seem to be room for him there yet.

Like Sveum said though, he will have to cut down on K's if he wants to move up...

How is there no room at AA for Burke I'd love to know why

Between Wilken, Adams, and Boeve, they have the corner IF and DH spots filled. Someone is giving up regular ABs to make it happen

Yeah Burke can't move up to AA until one of Wilken, Adames, Boeve is either promoted or injured unless they want Adams to get some corner OF reps.

Josh Adamczewski is officially placed on the 7-day IL at Carolina. He last played on May 2nd.

In addition to this, per Adam McCalvy, Josh Adamczewski has been struggling with Sacroiliac joint irritation. He's set to see a specialist.

A little extra info:

image.png

The SI joint is at risk in sports that have a repetitive, asymmetrical loading pattern which fits in with baseball. It sounds complex but a lot of lower back pain is linked to this joint being worn down. there is the possibility of rheumatoid arthritis or auto-immune conditions increasing the susceptibility here, meaning it may be liable to wear down again in future.

Physiotherapy has been shown to be highly effective at treating SI pain while you can also use injections for direct pain relief. Steroid injections help with the pain, PRP attempt to speed up the body's natural healing process.

Surgery is usually only recommended after six months of failed conservative treatments, and they fuse the spine with the SIJ

Successful return to play can be achieved in most athletes with accurate and timely diagnosis followed by appropriate pain management and rehabilitation.

Ugh.  He started the year with the look of potentially being the best pure hitter in the org.  And in 2025, that is a big statement.
