I didn't see this posted anywhere else.

When spring started I was really hoping he was going to be a nice platoon with Hoskins. Unfortunately seems to be having one of those stumbling starts to a career :(

Hope he can heal up quick and give himself a chance to help us for the stretch run of the season.

Hope he didn't punch a wall.  Really sucks for him.

This is certainly sad for Black - I hope he heals quickly & quietly has a good year once he returns in Nashville

Prior to this injury, Black had lost considerable favor with Brewers fans (& likely) management as well

He was “not his best” in 2025 Spring Training - this injury may allow for a “mental” reset

Here’s hoping he gets back on track & lives up to his top prospect status

If he struggles upon his return, a “change of scenery” may be best for all

Tyler Black = Mat Gamel?

Ugh. Starting to look like a good comp, unfortunately.

Broken hamate bones normally sap guys’ power for awhile after they come back. Would guess he won’t be back to “normal” until later this season or maybe even next year.

Definite bummer for all involved parties. Echoing the sentiment this can serve as a reset of sorts towards getting that arrow pointing back in the right direction.

Does it matter which hand he hurt? As a lefty, I would think the left hand would be more important but I lost my medical license a few weeks ago so I am not to be trusted.

Hamate injuries seem to be the type that lingers even when they player is capable of playing. Given he was the odd man out, he wasn't on the major league roster and won't be using valuable service time to rehab the timing is about as good as possible for this type of injury. Let him heal, let him take time to get fully back to normal and get him ready to take a more significant role next season.

There needs to be a King Thames version of the bible.

Could be wrong, but I believe as a lefty hitter his right hand would be the bottom/power hand in his swing.

The top (left) hand generally controls where the bat is in the zone and is responsible for "bat on ball". The bottom (right) hand generally drives the bat through the zone and is responsible for "bat speed". So a lingering problem in his right hand would lead to more "loss of power" and less "swing and miss".

As a lefty hitter, that's definitely wrong. :) I mean, it's obviously the bottom hand, but as RFC notes, the back hand is the power hand, not the one that's leading the bat through the zone.

As soon as I saw the word "hamate" I had Rickie Weeks flashbacks.  😐

Remember: the Brewers never panic like you do.
