LF Nicolas Barrios just hit a 5th inning grand slam for DSL Brewers Gold, turning a 6-5 deficit into a 9-6 advantage.

Off a 22-year old pitcher no less! Well, that pitcher went walk-walk-walk-grand slam against 4 batters faced. Oh my.

Grab that first victory of 2025, young men!

Interesting line for second-year 18-year-old Panamanian RHP Lukas Gonzalez as the middle innings inning eater: 3 1/3 IP, 1 H, 4 BB, 1 HB, 6 K, 0 R. From afar that 'might' speak to a young man who has stuff but is still lacking the fine-tuned control. He had a noticeable campaign in 2024 as a 17-year-old with similar WHIP tendencies. I'm following.

First year Colombian hurler, RHP Carlos Galindo, was the starter for the DSL Brewers Blue before handing it over to Gonzalez - 4.0 IP, 4 H, 0 BB, 2 K, 0 R. Nice work there. Second year Dominican RHP Justin Lugo will try to close it out for the Blue who lead 6-0 in the 9th frame.

Heck of a day for Barrios overall. I see Rangel is now at 1B. He can pair a fielding error with his catching interference 😅. I imagine his head is a bit on a swivel but, regardless, he keeps massively producing at the dish.

And, as a general reminder to all of us: Nicolas Barrios is indeed the younger brother of former Brewer (and now Ray - Civale trade of 2024 - playing for the Double-A Montgomery Biscuits). Baseball America did include him in their 2025 Class review as a 'Player to Watch':

Quote

Nicolas Barrios, OF, Venezuela: The Brewers signed Barrios for $275,000 and have been well acquainted with him for years as the younger brother of Gregory Barrios, a shortstop they signed for $1 million in 2021 and traded to the Rays last year for righthander Aaron Civale. Barrios has a smaller frame (5-foot-9, 160 pounds) as a 17-year-old lefty who doesn’t have one carrying tool but is an instinctive player who takes advantage of his small strike zone, a sound swing and good bat control to put balls in play at a high clip with doubles pop. He could move around all three outfield spots.

RHP Tyson Hardin is 2nd amongst Midwest League starting pitchers in ERA (1.29) and K/BB ratio (8.83). High-A Wisconsin looks to him to lead them to a home win and 2-1 series lead over Cedar Rapids. CF Eduardo Garcia’s on-base streak is now 17 games.

RHP Tobias Myers (5 IP, 3 R, 2 Ks last outing) makes his 3rd start since being optioned to Nashville, who’s aiming to extend their home series lead to 3-0 over Gwinnett. 3B Anthony Seigler has a whopping 1.206 OPS during his 28-game on-base streak (117 PAs). Remember - this year is Seigler’s first taste of AAA ball.

AA Biloxi’s LHP Tate Kuehner has been fabulous over his last 4 starts (0.82 ERA, 25 Ks in 22 IP) and he’ll strive to lead them to a 2-1 home series lead over 2nd place Montgomery. CF Luis Lara, the 2nd youngest position player in the Southern League, leads the team in hits (49), doubles (12) and stolen bases (19).

I'm curious what's going on with Tyler Black. He hasn't been listed on the ACL roster (rehab assignment) for a few days and didn't get activated by Nashville. I wonder if he had a setback or there's a new injury there.

Let's do a lil bit of SS Kaelen Culpepper vs the Timber Rattlers math for ye fine merry gentlemen (and lasses):

9 GS vs the Rattlers in 2025:

31 AB / 13 H / 7 BB / 6 K / 7 R / 11 RBI / 1 3B / 2 HR / 3 SB / 0.419 BA

I do believe the Timber Rattlers will be fairly content when he is promoted to Double-A. Just a hunch.

Kuehner now has them loaded with two down in the top of the 4th. Just had a mound visit with what looked like a cramp in his left leg near his knee. AND, no matter, he recovers and induces a very weakly hit end of bat nubber down the first base line. He looks quite fine sprinting for it and leaping to make the tag back against his body to nab the runner headed down the 1B line. On to the bottom half. Still 6-0.

Shuckers pouring it on. Leading 13-2. Long John Silvers from Adams and Zavi - record tying, btw:

The same Jake Gatewood the Sounds just battled at Triple-A. Wild.

You have to just sit back and smile at the current seasons we are seeing from Zavi and Eduardo. Two long-time Brewers having fantastic years. I, for one, am just absolutely overjoyed for those two!

Tyler Renz with a nice start on the AZ complex with 4 IP | 1 R | 4 H | 0 BB | 1 K so far.

There have been two injury delays on GameDay in the Brewers fourth after a Frederi Montero HBP and Luis Corobo foul ball, but it was Handelfry Encarnacion who led off the inning with a ground rule double that was eventually replaced with pinch runner Engel Paulino - who stole third and scored on a Corobo groundout.

Something has clicked with Eduardo Garcia this year, and it's been a joy to watch!
