Murphy: ‘Haase, you have one at bat in the last two weeks. You’re starting today against Paul Skenes.’

This is part of the reason why I thought Haase was going to catch either Monday or Tuesday.

Flip side is Contreras gets two days off assuming he isn't used today.

I agree with Sveumrules anywhere between 53rd and 48th street between Wisconsin and Bluemound, if you don’t mind the short hike. It’s been a couple of decades since I walked that route to County Stadium but it worked well, not sure if parking restrictions have changed since the 80’s though.  I had a girlfriend that lived on 50th and Wisconsin and always parked in her driveway, but after we broke up that was always a go to neighborhood behind her house. Brings back a lot of memories. Have a great time buddy. Go Brew Crew.

Ahhh, the good old days. An old GF of mine used to live on a block where the backyards abutted the west end of the VA cemetery. Hop the fence, stroll thru the VA grounds & you're there.

Man. That's just crazy. When he NEEDS a strikeout, he sure seems to know how to go find one.

In fairness, "finding one" just means throwing your 101mph FB or your unicorn 96mph slider. I don't think there's a whole lot of thought needed. :)

Kind of... except, already, I think we can see that his best path to whiffs will be the curve, as it was there to end the inning. AND, it's the willingness to adapt sequencing and location that's catching my eye. He wasn't showing that even this spring.

Do you draw the infield up here? Murph is... I think that's the right call. Interesting dilemma right away though.

Absolutely the right call.

Until shown otherwise you have to play like one run might win the game.

I wonder how much of the additional dominance is throwing to MLB catchers. Presumably he's not doing much shaking off of Contreras (and now Haase), so he supplies the stuff, but they're really commanding the sequencing/selection.

What I love about this matchup maybe most of all is that while they have superficially similar stuff profiles, these are really two very different pitchers. You can see it already. Skenes is all about the breaking stuff. He just has 100 in the bag to keep you honest. Miz is much more of a true, old-school power pitcher, right now.

Murphy would certainly back you up on that. He went way out of his way before and after Miz's last start to praise Contreras and talk about how he set him up for success. There are *definitely* some guys who get to the big leagues, and the better quality of equipment or facilities or umpiring or teammates just UPs their game, even as the competition gets stiffer.

His stuff is flat out unhittable to MLB-caliber hitters if they guess the wrong pitch - and make no mistake MLB hitters have to sit on a particular pitch and location to do damage to the filth that both these pitchers have in their arsenal.  Adding an established MLB catcher and detailed scouting reports on opposing hitters allows Mis to have a game called with more planning/intent than at any point in his minor league development when he was mostly working on command/pitch development.

Bottom line, if he can command his pitches reasonably well within the zone and the scouting reports keep hitters guessing (i.e., Mis doesn't tip pitches or get too consistent a sequence for certain situations), Misiorowski is a top 10 starter in the game right now with a ceiling that only Skenes can match as a young arm.

God, I love how hard the Brewers are to defend. You get a guy like Turang, who hits it the other way so well and so consistently, and then a guy on in front of him who can run and force them to cover the base? Just viciously hard to stop this team from getting hits, when they're right.

Skenes doesn't seem to have quite the command today.

Miso a little wild also. 11 balls for him

Having Collins and Turang back to back in the lineup has got to be annoying as heck for pitchers. I feel like they take 10+ combined pitches between the two of them each time through.
