Pirates at Brewers; Wednesday, June 25 @ 1:10 p.m.: Jacob Misiorowski (1.64 ERA, 3.61 FIP) vs. Paul Skenes (1.85 ERA, 2.48 FIP)

I played & coached fastpitch softball for a lot of years & love the intricacies of that game. The bottom of the second inning, that was a fastpitch softball rally right there--not overswinging, staying on balls & going through the middle, fouling off tough pitches, going deep into counts (contrary to what Bill Schroeder was espousing), putting pressure on both Skenes & the Pirate defense. Lotsa fun.

Lets hope Uribe can right his ship. IMO a little bump in the road for him lately.

When Megill can locate that roundhouse-looking breaking ball, wow. Good luck, hitters.

Now the Cards can beat the Cubs again tonight.

Still a long way to go & I'm sure they'll make moves, but when they were rolling I thought the only chance of someone challenging Chicago in the division was if their pitchers started leaking oil. Don't look now, but starting with our win there last week they've given up 8, 9, 7, 14, 8 & 8 runs. Stay tuned.

And just like that, the Brewers sit at the halfway point on pace for 90 wins, I would say likely to surpass that given a pretty sluggish start to the year and the added assets to the team. It was looking bleak for about a month there, but they look competitive again.

I'm shocked, could've sworn this would be the time the "this is the cheapest dumbest and worst run team in the league" after a couple so-so weeks contingency would finally be correct.

Miz and Maddux couldn't be more different pitchers...  Weird comparison.

I know it was contextual but did you miss what the OP was doing here?

I wonder what the Brewers rotation will be for the next two weeks with the off days tomorrow and Monday.

Before the season started I exchanged tickets for the Cubs game in our 12 pack for the game against the Dodgers on Monday July 7  when one our daughters will be visiting from out of town.

Im wondering if the Brewers will set Misioroski up for that game, which is the first home game after the upcoming road trip. I think they could sell out Misioroski going against Ohtani and the World Champions.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

Great win to finish off first half of season

I’m on record saying we will never be ahead of cubs at any point during season

lets hope they prove me wrong.   In the short term they need to play Haase for two weeks and let Contreras heal over all star break

and I’m still not sold on left side of infield.   Look at how good we are playing when we actually get something from ss and 3b.    I’d still take a replacement if feasible right now

my guess is Patrick is going to lose his spot when pitchers get back too

Ortiz and Durbin have won me over.  They don't have power, and are not GOOD hitters, but they are guys who do enough good things to win ballgames.  Speed, contact and good defense really is enough...

Where is the preseason thread where we all made win total predictions for 2025?

I believe I proposed 90 wins … I honestly can’t remember

Who would have thought when we were 21-25 that we would reach midseason with a record of 45-36 on pace to win 90 games again

What a great time to be a Brewers fan … this is one of the best run MLB teams year after year

Looks like their pitchers don’t like hot weather.

You have to pick your poison.

The Cubs losing is always nice, but the Cards are right there with the Brewers. And the Reds, who are going for a sweep over the Yankees tonight, are just two games back.

its a pretty tight 10 team race for the 6 NL playoff spots at the halfway mark. The 10th place team is only 3.5 games out of the last WC spot.

I hate everything about Chicago so I would much rather have them take the slide into about 4th place.

Its a dumb joke about Miz not being able to control pitches and Maddux being THE command pitcher. Just a silly joke not everything is that serious

My question is: Misiorowski has not pitched in excess of 97 innings as a professional, with today's start he’s at 80 total innings in 2025.

What do they push him too? 130 innings which is what maybe 10 more starts?

I think his point was he's the best now that Jake Bauers gave up some runs

Agree, they don't have to hit .300 to be good players. But the do need good at bat and to play hard.

I think the White Sox did it well with Crochet last year. Get him the 7-8 more normal starts to like 120 and then hit the brakes a bit. Limit him to 50 or so pitches every start after that and steal extra days off when possible. It wouldn't be the worst to make him a reliever the last month or so but I would rather keep him a little stretched out for the playoffs. If managed correctly like 150 innings wouldn't be crazy.

130 innings sounds about right.  That would be about 130% of his innings pitched last year of 97.1 and if you go with his innings increase from 2023 to 2024 that would put him at 133 innings which is basically the 130 innings.
