Old pal Luis Urias was DFAed by the Athletics today and is available for nothing but a claim.

I don’t know, on the surface this seems like a bit of a surprise. He’s not developed into a huge asset, but he’s not exactly a liability. Some pop, and most importantly, at least presents another option at SS until Ortiz is healthy.

If you asked most people if he’s an upgrade from Seigler, I think most would be hard pressed to say “no”. Just don’t know if it’s enough to shake the apple cart.

I'd say no. Don't think he's an upgrade over Monasterio as a bench RHH IF. Plus we all know Urias can't hang defensively at SS like Monasterio can. Replacing Seigler a LHH with Urias a RHH wouldn't make much sense.

Urias is interesting as a profile, but not as a n acquisition for the Brewers.

He's been poor defensively and he seems to be trying to adopt a more Caleb Durbin type profile, where he doesn't hit the ball hard and has sacrificed some EV's for some increased air pull rates. He doesn't really fit with the Brewers for my money, even if Ortiz was out for a longer period of time, and he's not exactly setting the world alight with his altered approach either (.653 OPS this season)

He's not a left handed hitter so not a replacement for Seigler. If he could play SS better than Monasterio sure but that doesn't appear to be the case. Hoskins and Chourio coming back soon as well so the position player group is getting more tight.

I’m still patient in my view of Siegler.  There’s some flexibility there that’s really appealing.  Sample size is tiny so far and to me he doesn’t seem overmatched.  I’m still hoping he can be a solid bench piece this year and potentially beyond considering he’s under control.

I’d prefer to grab Isiah Kiner-Felafa if we could. I don’t think Urias is much better than what we have

I noticed Kiner-Falefa was just let go. I have no idea if he'd get down to the Brewers before getting snapped up though.

If it was an either-or yes I'd take IKF over Urias.

It's probably academic because I'm guessing he'll get chosen before we have a chance to claim him, but FWIW he has reverse splits this year--.280 vs RHP.

The only reason this board is considering Urias is because he was a Brewer.  If he was a random guy with no Brewer ties who became available, and people looked at his stats (if anyone would even bother), people wouldn't even think about adding him.

He's a 100% non-factor, just a body.

He’s back in the organization.
