Game 4: Packers @ Cowboys - Sunday, Sept 28 7:20 PM

Posted

So which team will bounce back in Game 4?  The Packers were slowly grinding out a win against the Browns when they completely lost control in the last 10 min of the game. The Cowboys lost to the Bears... badly... really badly...to the Bears.

But this game will be in Dallas.  Who will be more hyped?  Micah Parsons or the Cowboys?  I wonder how the fans will respond?

This is a team that nearly beat the Eagles in Philly, so they can play when they want to.

"Rock, sometime, when the team is up against it, and the breaks are beating the boys, tell 'em to go out there with all they got and win just one for the Uecker. I don't know where I'll be then, Rock but I'll know about it; and I'll be happy."

I see a pissed off Packers team taking Dallas to the woodshed again. Their defense is horrible. If Caleb Williams can have his way with them, then Love can also. Lamb looks to be out 3-4 weeks. We can't possibly look as bad as we did against Cleveland. Twenty four hours later and I still believe that was the most shameful performance I've seen a Packer team play. Right from the opening gun.

I think you're forgetting a lot of other very bad Packers games(of you just have a different perception of shameful).

When I think of a "shameful" performance, I think of a just lack of effort. The D was unquestionable. They played hard. Jacobs played hard, the OL played awful but I don't think it was a lack of effort(possibly a bigger issue, we'll find out soon enough).

But maybe you've wiped some games, but remember this?

https://www.pro-football-reference.com/boxscores/201911030sdg.htm

This was the worst game I can recall. They played with no energy all game, they were a good team, the Chargers were not, they were dominated from the start. Flat, no rallying to the ball, got blown out from the jump and there was just nothing there.

But... it was definitely a bad performance... but if that FG goes in, we're saying, 'we played that BAD and still won because of our Defense.'

My concerns -OL
The OL was terrible. 11 of Love's 26 drop backs he had no chance... but on the pick, he wasn't rushed. It was like Goff in Week1. They put pressure on him and that caused him to speed up. Even with the 9 checkdowns to the RBs.

-Run Game. I wanted the Packers to keep Jones last year(just to finish out his deal) but I think it's REALLY important to have someone who can add some juice. Jacobs is a tough back. Dude's a workhorse, but he doesn't have the quickness to get outside and the only guy who does is a player who has been on IR since we drafted him. We keep hearing about Lloyd, but... better see something after the bye.

-Love/QB

Now, I'm not with the people who think he's Dilfer bad or those who only show up when the Packers lose or Woodruff gets hurt like ONE poster, but while I have ZERO question about Love's ability, the guy can look like Mahomes... but  even with this defense, you need him to be the guy he's looked like MOST of the time after the first ~9 weeks of the '23 season.

OL, Run Game, not good enough to compensate for an average QB.
Defense is.
WRs-COULD be by the end of the year.

But we need him to be better so all those areas don't have to be perfect to win games.

We're not trading for a star LT.  There's no Trent Williams out there(probably... SF is getting hammered with injuries and trying to get younger, but... that isn't gonna happen).

So lets see
Walker/Morgan/Jenkins/Rhyan and Belton

ONE of those players has a grade over 60 in pass protection... and it's the rookie 2nd year pick. Rhyan is a black hole. Morgan playing out on the right side looks just comically bad at this point.

Then hopefully you get
Morgan OR Walker/Banks/Jenkins/Belton/Tom in a few 4 weeks. Even then, Jenkins needs to be better.

I think Love is really good about 80% of the games, even vs really good defenses. But he and the OL handed that game away.

On the bright side, I think the best pass DLs in the NFL are Cleveland, NYG and I don't know anyone else who is as complete as they are defensively.

On the other hand... Philly, Detroit with Hutchinson and once McNeil gets back and the Vikings have really good DLs.

So even if they come out and put 45 on Dallas, I don't think this OL will be tested until Minnesota and Philly. Better get their **** together.

I think this should help tell which version of the Packers is closer to reality, the one that got hyped to storm through the NFC, or an overrated team that is not all that different from what it's been the last few seasons.

The Lions game kinda looks like aberration after seeing Detroit the last couple weeks. It counts all the same as a divisional game the Packers earned, but I am not convinced we're really that superior to them yet.

I think the pack is clearly a cut below Detroit.

I think that first game was an aberration.

Offensively they have way more weapons.

The Browns lions game will be an interesting watch to kinda gage our play.  Would have been better if it was also at Cleveland, but if they make the lions offense look silly, even if the lions don't shoot themselves like we did, it would at least make me feel better.

Remember what Yoda said:

It's going to be a rout.

Barring injuries I got to believe it's going to be philly and Detroit at the end.

Playing the "we played them better than they played them" game is a bit silly.  The truth is that we are 3 games into a 17-game season.  We've played two good teams really well and one bad team badly.

What we will be (or the Lions) is a long way from the team at the end of the season. Having our 5 top OL would've changed the Browns game.  So would've having Reed and Watson.

I think the head-to-head with the Lions is sufficient to say that we are closer to equals than them clearly being better. And certainly a better indicator than Packers-Browns compared to Lions-Browns. Especially with one being away and one being a home game.

Yes, let's get Golden involved early. Not sure why he and Wicks were together there.

Also the O line not looking good so far. If they don't pick it up, it will be a closer game than it should.

Nice drive and nice throws by Love. Kraft with a couple of nice runs after catch too.

O-line in the run game looks awful. Hopefully it won't mater. In retrospect, trading for Kinnard was a masterful move. With both Tom and Belton out we would be playing one of Banks, Smith or Jennings

The OL isn't good, I think we can say that. There is no room at all between the tackles, that has been consistent all 4 games. But the Packers have been able to develop their OL midseason before and find a groove. Obviously guys being hurt doesn't help, but someone is going to be hurt all year.

Still hurts to see Ferguson on the Cowboys.

And sadly, Jenkins has been poor right in the middle. Remember when we used to cycle through centers and seemingly found gold?  It's been a long time since we've been solid in the middle.
