Peralta is the only answer today. We have no bullpen to throw! After what happened to Quinn yesterday in a hostile environment, we are going to throw Gasser or Miz into an even more hostile environment and burn up the rest of our pen for a game five?

I get this perspective, but I think "only answer" really diminishes some good arguments for a BP game.

1) You've got a fly ball pitcher with the wind blowing out. Doesn't look like it'll be a huge factor but has to be considered.

2) Uribe, Megill, and Mis have pitched once this series. It's Mis side day today anyway. Ashby's on two days off. Plus there's an off day Friday. We're in pretty good shape and won't be blowing out our pen at all, especially since, if we lose, Freddy's starting Game 5. Certainly, the Cubs are going to rely heavily on their best arms tonight, and they used them all yesterday.

3) The only guy I'd really trust in a win-or-go-home scenario is Freddy. You throw him and lose, you live with it. If we're worried about Mis pitching in a hostile environment on his side day tonight (or Gasser getting an inning or two), how worried are we going to be with him coming into a Game 5?

I'm NOT arguing it SHOULD be a bullpen game. I think, originally, I leaned that way. Looking at the wind forecast, it does seem like it won't be a huge factor (6 mph, blowing right to left, maybe out toward center as the game goes along), so I'd probably lean Freddy as of this moment. All I'm saying is: It's a genuinely tough call, and people are going to judge the decision based on the results, which is usually unfair.

There are lots of factors to consider. All I'm saying is choices like this are why managers and front offices get paid the big bucks. I'm not going to second-guess what we do either way.

It's a huge credit to our bullpen that that's actually a true statement for this whole series.

I would pitch Peralta tonight in a hostile environment. Then if you need to go to Miz on Saturday you are doing it at home. The Brewers have to be better at hitting with men on base. That will do us in more than our pitching will I think.

I can’t help but feel that this series is going back to Milwaukee with the Cubs advancing.  Last year was awful.  This would be the most Brewers thing ever and I would bet money on it happening.  What a gross feeling.

I originally liked the idea of Peralta being held back for a possible 5th game, but I've wavered on that in favor of him starting on his regular day. I wouldn't hate starting out w/Ashby for an inning or two but man, I'd love going into the back half of the game w/a lead & both Ashby and Koenig available if needed. Then if you DO go five games you'd probably have at least one of them available, plus Quintana for an inning if needed and most likely all the one-inning RHPs after a day off (not that Uribe couldn't go more than one). And Misiorowski & Patrick most likely don't pitch tonite.

They're covered Saturday if needed.

Talking to my son at breakfast today…. Dad  why is the game starting at 9 tonight I won’t even be able to watch 3 innings They should just start Uribe he won’t give up any runs in the 1st and the Brewers will win.

I would go with our Ace tonight to shut them down…. I feel like the Cubs pen is going to get knocked around tonight.

Brewers win 4-2

I agree Peralta should start, but I don't know where you're going with the second sentence. People who have followed the starting pitcher in this series have given up one run in three games & allowed one inherited runner to score.

I would say its definitely weird that the game in LA is the first game.    Only logic I can see is if not, it becomes 9 pm start in PHi.   But still, I've always thought home stadium local time has been most relevant

Good stuff. But as for Miz, game five or not I feel much better about him pitching at home, especially after his game two performance.

You aren't going to second-guess either way? I'm sorry, I'm afraid we're going to have to revoke your message board license.

It really is, though. The probability of the Brewers sweeping this series was low (same as the probability of the Cubs winning games 3-5), so it's not surprising that they won a game.

Well. . . . I'll go on record that I'm not a fan of Freddy pitching in tonight's game.  On the road with the wind blowing "out", I guess I'd rather go bullpen game and hope to outslug/outscore the Cubs and hold Freddy for game one of the NLCS or, at worst, pitching game 5 at home where he has been pretty dominant.

That said, I have to have confidence that he'll get the job done.  It's just not what I would've done.  That's all.

Regardless, Go Brewers!!!

FWIW (h/t McCalvy), of the 34 previous teams to lose Games 1-2 on the road in a Division Series with the current 2-2-1 format (through 2024), 14 forced a Game 4. Of those 14, five also forced a winner-take-all Game 5, and three completed the comeback.

So it's relatively common for the team that's ahead to lose game 3, but typically they come back and close it out in G4.

Dude I hear ya but I can’t help it!   Too many years of years of my favorite teams failing to feel good about the rest of this series.
