From Friday's Link Report - this is why we note such things, wish it weren't so:

"Still just 17 years old, Venezuelan LHP Santiago Martinez now has a 19-to-3 K-to-BB mark through three appearances. After pitching five, then four, innings in his first two outings, he was lifted with two outs in the 3rd here, immediately after retiring two batters, the last on a strikeout. Hopefully the young man is OK."

Nothing serious, just the organization being cautious with some soreness.  The hope is for Martinez to be back on the mound within two weeks.

Even if it’s a significant sprain, that’s better than what it appeared for Akil Baddoo

Kind of shocking that he reacted like that to an ankle sprain though maybe it's just frustration to finally getting in rhythm after a long injury absence to just get injured again.

If one of those "high" ankle sprains, a more significant rehab process. Of course, we don't have the definitive word.

Though I've never seen someone suffer an Achilles tear without going to the ground, so in a way, that was promising at the time.

Things have been pretty quiet regarding Frank Cairone.  Any updates?  I don't see any stats, so I'm assuming he's not in game shape yet.  Any idea how he's looking?

The most recent update was on June 2nd:

"LHP Frank Cairone will begin throwing live to hitters starting next week and is expected to make his professional debut towards the end of the month."

We're not quite at the end of the month yet, but it's approaching. Of course, we shouldn't mark June 30th as a hard target. Here's hoping...

Cairone has been tentatively scheduled to make his professional debut on July 3rd for the ACL Brewers.

What's going on with Peña? Are they going to shelf him for the rest of the season at this point?

Hamstring injury that shouldn’t (hopefully) even require an IL stint, so no they won’t shelve him.

Setback for Griffin Tobias? Last rehab outing was June 2nd.

Any news on Gabriel Colmenarez? He pitched in the ACL last season and has just sort of disappeared.

And Isais Chavez? On the restricted list since early March.

Thanks for any nuggets you’re able to provide.

I will check in on Tobias and find out what the situation is.  As for Chavez, here is my update from May in the transaction thread:

C Isaís Chavez was slated to make his stateside debut in 2026, but he was placed on the restricted list just before the start of the ACL campaign.  For some added context, it is not a visa issue for Chavez, and the hope is that he will still be able to take the field at some point this season.”

As for Colmenarez, he was released late in the ‘25 season.  For whatever reason, this transaction has not showed up on his MiLB/MLB pages.

The decision has been made that Tobias will require Tommy John surgery.  The right-hander will look to return to the mound sometime late in the second half of 2027.

We won't learn anything new for a few days minimum, at that, but we'll plant this post in this thread and see where an eventual update may take us.

Via "Ro's" Sunday night Link Report:

"Biloxi losing while limiting your opponent to two hits may appear like the main story here, but it’s more likely the injury delay and exit of RHP 25-year old RHP Tanner Gillis after issuing a full count walk to open the bottom of the 4th inning with the Shuckers leading 3-0. Pitching on four days’ rest, Gillis had held the Biscuits scoreless over nine innings this week, including three innings in this contest (3 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 2 BB, 2 Ks). While we don’t have news on the exact nature of Gillis’ exit, we will share when we do."

My "research":

For archive subscribers, go to the 01:49:45 hour/minute mark here.

Gillis threw a 1-1 fastball up for ball two, and although it was subtle, he immediately knew something was amiss. Catcher Matthew Wood came right out to the mound, and once the trainer arrived, Gillis (covering his mouth with his glove while on the mound discussing the situation) very quickly exited for the dugout. The whole incident lasted less than a minute.

Have to be honest on this one, I couldn't fathom saying with any confidence at all beyond leaning ever so slightly towards an upper torso strain of some sort, but arm can't be ruled out.

Pena removed from the game again yesterday.  He looked like he was having a leg issue after his first two at bats, didn't help that he hit what looked like possible infield singles, so he had to leg them out.  both times he looked uncomfortable after getting thrown out.  Then, he made an awkward dive in the field, and came up looking uncomfortable yet again.  Shortly after, he left the game.

I'm guessing it's the hamstring that caused him issues recently.

Any updates?

It is his hamstring again.  Don’t know the path forward yet outside of the fact that the hope is to avoid an IL stint, of course.  If it persists, however, it could be necessary to let it fully heal.

Did I miss or overlook any updates on Episcope or Cole Phillips?

Both have progressed slower than originally hoped.  I’m working on getting more specific info that I can share with you.

Obviously any update you can provide is so greatly appreciated, but you don’t have to get more specifics. More of a “did I miss something “. And it sounds like it was a slower process than expected for both. Bummer as I am still hopeful to see either one pitch this year- once fully healthy

Anything on Frontado?

SS Diego Frontado is dealing with a minor groin strain and is expected to return to the field next weekend.
