I don’t know what happened nor do I have specifics that I can share about his current status, but I have heard from multiple individuals in the Timber Rattlers clubhouse that, as of midnight tonight, Peña is stable and responsive.

If you have an MLB+ subscription that allows you to watch the archives of minor league games, you can view the Wisconsin game at Fort Wayne here.

Go to the 03:39:30 hour minute mark to see the sequence (which I now see is posted above as well.)

The game started at 6:30 and the temperature per the box score was 71 degrees.  How do you overheat in those conditions?  I assume they are going to have to do some medical tests before they let him back on the field because that doesn't sound right.

I’ve had college players I coach get pretty close to passing out, having major cramping issues, etc. in that type of 60-70 degree weather because they don’t recognize the need to hydrate when they don’t feel like it’s crazy hot. Being as he’s so used to DR/AZ heat I could easily see a young kid like Peña doing something similar.

My educated guess is that this is more of a pure dehydration situation than truly "overheating", but I don't know for sure.

Like you said, I'm certain they're running tests to make sure there's nothing underlying though.

This right here, but the initial lack of response to sternal rubs *if that is indeed the case* is extremely alarming.  If you are anywhere remotely close to conscious, you will respond.  Working closely with ATs in my current and past positions, a lack of response indicates a severe compromise in brain function and has to be treated as a life-threatening emergency.  I have no doubt that Peña is going to be okay given the updates I’ve heard, but an extended absence is still a possibility in my personal opinion.

Actually, kudos to the guys at WTMJ for asking Matt Arnold that this morning.
