"Dustin Pedroia doesn't have the strength or bat speed to hit major-league pitching consistently, and he has no power......He probably has a future as a backup infielder if he can stop rolling over to third base and shortstop." Keith Law, 2006

DH/INF Luis Pena (.973 OPS in 52 PAs) returns for his first High-A Wisconsin game since April 22, as the team seeks a home doubleheader sweep of Peoria to reverse an 0-1 series deficit. LHP JD Thompson (5.68 ERA, 1.11 WHIP, 10.7 K/9 in 12.2 IP) makes his 5th start.

The Rattlers have grounded into 5 double plays in 6 innings. And had a player caught stealing third.

Good to get this out of their system all in the same game.

The AA Shuckers also have a doubleheader today, in their case kicking off their series at Braves’ affiliate Columbus. RHP Tanner Gillis (3.95 ERA, 1.06 WHIP, 6.9 K/9 in 27.1 IP) makes his 3rd start (10th appearance).

Update; Damon Keith was a late scratch, with Matt Wood entering as DH and others moving around the diamond.

After dropping the first game of today’s doubleheader, High-A Wisconsin turn to RHP Braylon Owens (3.47 ERA, 1.18 WHIP, 13.1 K/9 in 36.1 IP) to lead them to victory in Game 2 of the day. Manager Stanley has made 4 lineup changes, adding Dinges, Hall, Alastre and Diaz.

Nice start to Game 2 for Wisconsin: 6 runs and 5 hits in the 1st inning. Andrew Fischer singled in the first run, though he wasn’t credited with an RBI.

Glad to see Peña back, but when do we start to worry about Payne’s absences?

Not  just yet. Started yesterday.

I'm more concerned with Dinges NOT playing catcher.... yet again.

4 times in the last 22 games, he's caught. Is he even a "catching" prospect at this point? What's going on here? He'll be 23 by the end of the MiLB season, he's in HighA, he's raking, it's his catching that's holding him back... and he's not catching.

The talent in the first 5-6 spots in the batting order is pretty ridiculous for a high-A team, especially with Ragsdale now heating up.

Payne did not start yesterday. He hasn't played since 5/21.

Peoria’s taking this game very seriously, smacking 7 extra-base hits off of Owens to score 5 runs in 4 innings and cut Wisconsin’s lead to 6-5.

Heck of a moment to see if Quinton Low has corrected whatever needed to be corrected (9 ER, 7 BB, 0 Ks in last 2 outings). He enters for Wisconsin in the 5th inning.

Red-hot AAA Nashville shoot for a 2-0 home series lead over Gwinnett behind rehabbing RHP Quinn Priester (3 IP, 5 R, 2 Ks, 68 pitches last outing). RF Luis Lara has 28 hits in his 21 May games.

The Low-A Warbirds have won 9 of 11 and seek a 2-0 series lead at Myrtle Beach, with terrific RHP Jayden Dubanewicz on the mound (6.2 IP, 2 R, 10 Ks over last 2 starts). 2B Juan Ortuno (.785 OPS in 167 PAs) has a 17-game on-base streak.

6-up, 6-down (3 Ks) for Cameron Wagoner in relief for Biloxi.

But they’re 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position and trail 2-0 entering the final inning.

After a close loss in Game 1 of today’s doubleheader, Biloxi need to get a win in Game 2 to avoid an 0-2 series hole at Columbus. RHP Yorman Galindez (7.32 ERA in 19.2 High-A IP) makes his AA debut. The only change from Game 1 is Mark Coley II’s entry, as Jesus Made and Damon Keith are absent from both lineups today.

So did I miss Made getting hurt? Not in lineup for game 2 either.

Perhaps they're working out the final details of a contract extension. 11/155?

Or, most likely, they're just exercising an abundance of caution as they do with most prospects, much less the #1 overall.
