"Dustin Pedroia doesn't have the strength or bat speed to hit major-league pitching consistently, and he has no power......He probably has a future as a backup infielder if he can stop rolling over to third base and shortstop." Keith Law, 2006

Perhaps I missed something but Burke has been out of the lineup all week for Biloxi including tonight.  He last played Saturday and I don't believe he was taken out of the game early or anything?

RHP Tyson Hardin looks for a bounceback start (5 IP, 6 R, 5 Ks last week) as AAA Nashville shoots for a 2-1 home series lead over Jacksonville. DH Tyler Black has a 13-game on-base streak.

After 3 relief appearances (5 IP, 5 R, 5 Ks), RHP Travis Smith makes his first AA start, as Biloxi aim to grab a 2-1 home series lead over Chattanooga. 3B Andrew Fischer’s on-base streak is an amazing 42 games!

He pulled up a bit hobbled in the 9th inning on his GIDP.  If you have access to MiLB TV, it's at the 3:13:28 mark of the game.  I have not seen any update since then

Low-A Wilson strive for a 5th consecutive win and a 3-0 home series lead over Kannapolis. RHP Jacob Morrison is starting on 4 days’ rest (2 IP, 0 R, 3 Ks on 43 pitches last week). After a rough June (.525 OPS), DH/C Rylan Mills had a big game yesterday (3-for-3, HR, double, walk, 3 RBIs).

SS Luis Pena (.807 OPS in 97 PAs) is back in action after exiting Wisconsin’s Sunday game early. 21-year old RHP Daniel Corniel makes his 1st ever High-A start, with the aim of taking a 3-0 series lead

Does anyone have any inside info on Manfredi? Does he still sit 97-98 coming out of the pen like he did in Appleton?

His strikeout #'s are good and lefties are struggling against him ... but walks seem to be an issue throughout his short career thus far.

If he can settle in at AAA I wonder if he is a Koenig replacement as soon as next year?

So is it just me? But after the success of the young pitchers drafted in 2023-2024 (Knoth, Letson and Meccage debut in low A holding their own; break outs from Wichowski, yoho in 2024 and Hardin in 2025; the great pitching from Dorchies, Dubanewicz, Tobias and Renz forcing promotions to low A last year), I feel let down by the 2025 draftees. We haven’t seen much of Thompson and Flores will miss this season.  But Morrison and Healy struggling early for a college arms at low A, and really unimpressive pitching stats for Roupe, Holden, and Vucinovuch at the ACL so far. Holden had a few nice starts and Bentley has some solid peripherals.  But it’s Owens really- well outside the best story of the year in Cairone.

injuries happen (Hayden Robinson lost a year plus; Broughton is slowly coming back; and last year had Episcope recovering with Flores having to undergo surgery), but this young season is not so much that but not seeing or hearing of a true break pit

And yes this is early and a hot take. And I am not saying anything wrong. This is the norm whereas ‘23 and ‘24 classes look like the outliers in reality. But those expectations have me now almost feeling like it’s a given we get 2-3 pitchers fly up the charts. And I will hope to look at this post next year while shaking my head at myself. But it’s not that the kids aren’t ok, but more I’m not ok expecting every draft pick to be a future ace level prospect.  But that is what we have started to come to expect the past 3-4 drafts.

The baseballs? Some other factor in the charged offensive environments? 2026 is the orange in the apple-to-orange comparison. Or is 2026 the apple? Either way, you get the picture.

Ok, glad I  posted.  I was thinking - ok here is biedermann being all negative again.

But - I had not thought of THAT angle.  So that is really a  good tidbit I knew but overlooked/forgot.  Would explain the pitching line throughout the lower minors.

SO now I get to worry about the inflated stats of the hitters instead right 😉

Hasn’t made its way to the leaderboards yet, but the individual FanGraphs player pages have ERA- and FIP- for the pitchers to help contextualize the drastic changes in offensive environments.

Just for one example, Southern League has jumped over a full run per game from 4.01 in 2025 to 5.10 so far this year.

Last year Jaron DeBerry had a 3.62 ERA | 3.72 FIP at Biloxi that shook out to a 96 ERA- | 97 FIP-.

This year DeBerry is back in Biloxi with a 4.22 ERA | 5.08 FIP that has shaken out to an 85 ERA- | 100 FIP-.
