Shutting Miz down does not sound good. Likely sweep by the Pirates going into the break. They will be fighting for a wild card bid if they can’t figure out how to hit with RISP.

I have a few mini rants I need to get off my chest -

1. Jackson Chourio - love the guy but would it kill him to come up with a clutch hit every once in awhile? The swing decisions are still not great and he's not hammering mistake pitches for the most part. I need to see more from him at this point.

2. The Pirates are my new least favorite team. Just a pain in the ass and Reynolds continues to haunt the Brewers. Mark my words - they will sweep us tomorrow with Mis not going.

3. Pat Murphy had a horrendous day. Plain and simple.

4. Get Yelich out of the lead off spot.

Murph in the post-game interview looks like he aged 20+ years in the past few weeks. . He looked really haggered and tired. If he’s the life of this team, not hard to understand why they’re looking a bit lifeless right now.

Not much I can say about game 2 since I missed much of it. I will say that I thought it was significant that Uribe was used in the 8th rather than Koenig w/Lowe & Reynolds the first two due up. Kinda illustrates to me that another LH is needed for the BP no matter if Ashby is struggling, lights out, or anything in between. Zastryzny & Hall are on their way back; don't know if that'll satisfy the need or not.

As a 'big picture' kind of fan I can't help but notice that given their season so far they hit well enough to win the first one, and from what the raw numbers say probably pitched well enough to win the second one. And won neither. Baseball, I guess.

Watching Valdez today I couldn't help but be reminded of Franmil Reyes, who also came up looking like Babe Ruth but was out of US organized ball at 27 or 28. It'll be interesting once folks get a book on him; right now he's awfully impressive.

Mid-sixties and coming off surgery might have something to do with that.

I mean, yeah but they've been 5th or 6th in all of MLB in that stat most of the season, and among the top teams in scoring two-out runs. This is something teams often go through. I know that sounds like a managers' cliche but it's true.

Before this 18 game stretch I said that I would be satisfied if the Brewers didn’t lose any of their division lead..

It’s possible that they could still do that with a win tomorrow, but when you throw in losing 3 SP to injury it’s hard to say that this stretch  hasn’t been something of a disaster even with 10 or 11 wins.

We’ve also seen  terrible slumps from Chourio and Contreras. If that’s related to the situation in Venezuela (which would be understandable) it could be a big problem for some time. With the pitching situation the offense is going to need more from those guys than they have been providing.

.........And Zastryzny was just removed from his outing tonite after the trainer came out. He was looking at his hand, so maybe just a blister. Or maybe not.

Maybe he had the phone number for his orthopedic surgeon written on his hand.
