This goes under the "I have no idea about all the contextual factors Matt Arnold has intimate knowledge of" category.

Surprised/not surprised to see Yoho go. It was clear the org didn't think his stuff could play, even last year when he was tearing up the minors and the big-league pen needed arms. The changeup is good enough that I thought they'd give him some leash, but not so good I had a lot of hope for him to become a high-leverage reliever.

Naylor isn't that far removed from being a 1.5 win player despite hitting poorly. He's only 26, will cost almost nothing in arb, and has 3 yrs of theoretical control after this one. Heuer seems like...a guy. Maybe he's a guy the Brewers can turn into something, though, I don't know. He's done more in his career so far than Yoho, so I guess there's that?

So long to Blake Perkins, a guy I enjoyed having around. Best of luck to him. I hope he can get a little offense back and stick around the bigs. He's just not valuable enough to remain on a roster that's going to have a lot of OFs the Brewers have more investment in.

Doubt this is the final move the Brewers make, but they obviously see some marginal benefit to increasing their catching depth and adding an arm with MLB experience. Doubt it moves the needle, but it's cheap. I know we get attached to guys like Yoho (myself included), but there's probably guys like that in every system in baseball.

Nate Lavender (Mets), Welinton Herrera (Rockies), Andrew Nardi, Josh Ekness (Marlins), Franco Aleman (Guardians), Mason Fluharty, Javen Coleman (Blue Jays), Jose Fermin (Angels), Anthony Nunez (Orioles), Marc Church (Rangers), Orion Kerkering (Phillies), Jordan Leasure (White Sox)

How much do the Brew like Rylan Mills?

He's pretty far down the ladder obviously, but I think they like him quite a bit. Having a guy at his age catching at the full-season level at age 19 says something because you can always find an organizational-type to fill that role if they feel he can't handle it. So I believe he's someone they have hopes for.

I rate the trade a "whatever". We get ourselves a backup catcher for next year if needs be for two AAAA guys who were only going to see the Majors in a break-glass emergency, anyway. Sure Yoho could be great, but we can say that about pretty well every young player, just as we can say that about Naylor if we can manage to tweak whatever needs tweaking. Or he's AAA depth. Either way, whatever.

Gabe Gross.

Remember how upset we all were that he was traded and that the return for him was terrible considering his upside?

I am giving Perkins pretty muchly no trade value even though he has been a useful player.

That's a spot-on assessment of Perkins IMO. I would've bet the house the Brewers would leave him at AAA after Lockridge returned & eventually release him; in no way did I see him involved in a trade. But OTOH yeah, he's definitely been useful & has been instrumental in wins over the past few years, mostly with the glove but with the bat a couple of times----the 3 run HR off Sanchez back in June opened up that game.

This was inevitable, but he had his moments. Best of luck to him & Yoho in Cleveland.

You could do way worse for your #2 catcher. Maybe I am getting old and many people here weren’t around for the Chad Moeller days.

Son, I came in right when they inexplicably dumped Darrell Porter, setting up the Charlie Moore - Buck Martinez days.

What, you weren't excited for the Jamie Quirk-Jim Wohlford era?

This led me to a trip down memory lane. In 1977, Jamie Quirk put up a 58 OPS+ while getting more of his starts at DH than at any position.  In 1982, Charlie Moore was the starting rightfielder on a pennant-winning team.

We complain so much about the org’s real or imagined failures to squeeze every ounce of value out of each roster spot. Well, back in the day, teams were like “we have six or seven guys we like; let’s just throw whomever’s in the room out there until we get to nine.”

Just right off the top, Kerkering can run it up there at 98-100. I'd guess his average is in the 97s, but that's different than Yoho.

Are you just comparing kinda good but not great relievers or guys with a similar profile? Because I'd love to add him to our team, but Yoho... never felt comfortable with him. Devin Williams with that Change, always made me nervous.

Not comparing on stuff or pitches, just overall K/BB/HR profiles. All younger reliever types who have shown the ability to get strikeouts and not walk too many people in the minor leagues. I agree that Kerkering has shown a lot more promise in the majors than Yoho at this point.

Luis Lara could not have made him more redundant. A switch hitting CFer whois faster than Perkins, a better hitter and it remains to be seen how he is in CF, but we have a lot of CFers.

Codi Heuer though, this is the type of trade I LOVE. He is capable of running it up there in the upper 90s, he's got a 65 grade slider, great spin rates and then a change that I don't know how good it is.

You gave up so little... IMO. Codi Heuer might just as likely end up going the way of Payamps, but MAYBE the Brewers saw something the Guardians didn't? I know we're talking about two of the best at developing pitching, but... it also takes guys a little while to click.

So, ground ball pitcher, great slider and good FB velo. That alone makes this trade worth it for me. Megill has, at most, one year left. Maybe(long shot) he steps in as the SU man or 7th inning man.

Ok, fair enough. The difference to me was the velo. I just don't trust guys who throw a below average Fastball even if they have a great changeup.

All of those things and most importantly, someone who has shown he can compete right now and has no appreciable difference in AB quality when facing LH or RHP.

Blake has kinda become a good 5th or 6th OF in an era where you can't go that deep due to needing 13 pitchers.
