1 for 16 from your 1-4 hitters makes it tough to win but the biggest culprit today, once again, was the Kyle Harrison blowup inning. 

Thanks for your contributions in the first half this year Kyle, but it’s time to put a rest to your 2026 season.

Just checked the score.....yikes again for Harrison. Might be time to shut him down for the year.

At the very least he should only pitch in Milwaukee.

What a horrible decision to start Harrison today.

That choice was the equivalent of saying: “it’s okay to lose this game … we’re really good & can coast to the finish line.”

They are not wrong, the possible benefit of using Harrison in the playoffs or even considering using him in the playoff far outweighed a loss here which is basically nothing. Now they know not to use in the playoffs, which can be the difference between advancing to the next round or not.

The long and short of it is that they are really good, and if they so choose, can essentially coast to the finish line.

Common sense - after his last few outings - had already told them loud & clear that he is not a candidate for the playoff roster.

It's official. Harrison is unplayable for the rest of the year. Maybe a spot start against the Cardinals once playoff seeding is set, but that's it. Obviously, something is going on with him that can't be fixed overnight.

I think Harrison told us who he was in recent outings. But I think he also told us in his first 15 starts of the year. And if the braintrust felt they (and he) did enough work between appearances to warrant giving him another chance to right the ship & get back to where he was during those early starts, I'm good with that. IMO that possible reward greatly outweighed whatever risk some might see in starting him today. And if you ask me, he WAS pretty darn good through his first 25 or so pitches before the roof once again fell in.

The Stallings-Anderson-Wilson question re playoff roster spots is becoming interesting. With Patrick & Senzatela both available in front of Uribe from the right side I think that may ace Anderson out, so it may come down to the other two.

Memo to Ashby-----when facing a hitter who has some HR pop but is hitting .163, DO NOT fall behind 3-1.

He had a couple of ugly trips to the plate yesterday, but Ortiz was right back to owning his ABs today. He just looks really comfortable at the plate, and has for a long time.

I'm sure he was doing cartwheels being mentioned as one of the top pitchers in the league to being one of the worst -- relatively quickly.

When Woody last came off the field, he looked distraught, too.  Might have seen a tear when he was walking off.

Although these are grown men, they are still guys who have busted their asses -- only to have it turn to crap like that.

I'll extend him some grace.

Right now I think that's the absolute best you could hope for, and unfortunately even that's probably a pipe dream. He should be much more once the slurve gets back to where it was, along with overall velo & command, once he spends an off-season in the shop.

Can't remember someone dropping off a cliff like this within a season---relievers yes, but not a starter. Maybe Shaun Marcum in late 2011.

Beating the Cubs in the playoffs last year (& this year too) makes for a successful season

1000% agree on extending these guys some midwestern grace. It’s a hard game, and no one wants them to perform better than they do. Players have ups and downs in this game that last weeks, months, and sometimes years.
 

Just reading over comments on the internet, it often sounds like some people are fans just to have an excuse to vent on someone.
