Another good May start tomorrow would be really encouraging for the 3rd starter spot.  Combo him in someway with Ashby/Hall to cover 3 times through and get to the backend.   Vs teams like Phi/Chi/LA the lefty opener really does make a lot of sense, as much as I hate to say it.  Then May in afterwards

For as much starting pitching talent the Brewers have in the majors and in the pipeline, you need to keep trying to develop guys like Harrison and Sproat simply to maintain that depth at the very least. No playoff team wants to be in the situation the Brewers themselves were in earlier this season when they were forced to call up a AAAA journeyman in Thomas Pannone for a spot start. Is it likely that both Harrison and Sproat can be turned into valuable starting pitchers longterm? Probably not. But I think there is a decent shot that one of them hits, and you hate to pick the wrong one or dump both because you were impatient.

I don’t think punting today was the intention. I think they hoped Harrison would pitch better. 

Most of the lineup is okay, though I’d prefer that Naylor absolutely never start until there is literally nothing to play for.

Sproat strikes me as a guy who may excel being able to come in and throw gas out of the pen. I'm not saying convert him right now, but I would consider that before cutting bait for sure.

Yeah. Sproat is still all just projection and hope at this point. 

At least with Harrison you know, this guy at his best was very successful in the majors for a period of time.

Not saying one outing is enough to really draw much from at all, but both Sproat and Harrison did get an outing out of the pen this month and both outings were disasters.

This is the wiser approach for Harrison & Sproat. Hopefully they both figure it out soon. But don’t plan on them succeeding & being starters for the big league team.

I never actually thought Woodruff had any shot of pitching again this year but with Harrison and Sproat simply not useable in the playoffs you can make a pretty good case that there’s an opening if he’s healthy.

There isn't a spot if they go with 12 pitchers but teams do go with 13 pitchers especially the championship and Worls Series round and if that is the case there is a spot to take.

I’d rather them IR Harrison so not to burn up an option. Can then send him to Nashville on rehab.

It's crazy how fine the line between being effective and shelled at the MLB level is with pitching.  With Sproat, it's all about command and finding an offspeed pitch that doesn't break into lefties.  Harrison is essentially the polar opposite, needing better offspeed that isn't just rolling in laterally to righties along with maintaining a higher arm slot.

I think both can be really good MLB pitchers, and some of their issues right now likely stem from end of season fatigue in terms of IP.  Harrison's arm issues mid season definitely impacted things for him, too.  For Sproat, his stuff is good enough where all he needs to do is be effectively wild in the zone with a power sinker/4 seamer mix and one average offspeed offering and he'd be a middling starter at worst - but he's got to throw strikes.
