That ball did more damage than we thought

HR in 1/30 parks according to statcast, so wouldve been an out anyway. Stinks we are gonna have Pads fans grumbling about a ball that wouldve been an easier out had it not hit roof

Lol what. The ball was caught at the warning track after hitting the roof and coming straight down. I’m so glad it happened and no way to know if it would have been fair or foul but there’s no way that ball doesn’t end up in the stands somewhere if the roof is open.

Yeah, I think most of those go foul but this looked to be really close to staying fair.

So much for speeding the game up.  The game started around 7:30 and just ended after 11pm.   The length of the commercial breaks were insane.   It was a 3-2 game.  This game played last weekend would have been done in well under 3 hours.

Yeah there's no way that was staying in the park. Moses himself couldn't stop that one

Agreed, I ain’t buying it. Chourio looked like he caught it at around 325 feet and the replay sure looks like the wire negatively affected the balls travel.

Miz threw 85 pitches in 4 innings

The replay side view shows that had plenty of carry left. Statcast is crazy wrong on that one.

That is a good point - France was leaning staring at the foul pole on contact - the ricochet actually carried chourio further into fair territory - when it hit the roof it was just fair and had the roof not been there that ball likely could've faded foul, too.

This isnt Coors field - that ball wasnt going to carry much further distance wise from where it hit the roof with all the backspin on it

The Padres had a good plan and executed bit well: foul off the fastballs and hit the slower pitches. Miz will need a new plan for his next outing against the Pods, if necessary.

Insane announcing though.  If you don't know, shut your mouth until you either have someone look up the rule for you or the umpires announce something.

Yeah... that was pissing me off because they had me thinking... they lost(or were down 4-3... but with Miller coming in).

Just repeating "that's going to be a HR," and that's AFTER they say... they heard the rules before the game. Fair, it's in play.

Lost in the madness is what a play that is by Chourio to track that ball and catch it after a ricochet. That's a potential disaster if it's not caught.

Prince Fielder turned one of those into an in the park HR.

A ball caught right here that hit the roof is not staying in play.

They sucked. They were cocksure it was a HR and they were wrong.

In play, out of play, lucky or not luckly.   I couldn't care less.  The ground rules are the ground rules and they are known to everyone.  There is going to be some luck involved i a team like the Brewers is going to get over the hump.  Some days, I'd rather be lucky than good and I've seen my share of luck go the other teams way.

The trajectory of a ball hit that high is basically straight down from the apex. And hitting the roof pushed it forward if you watch the replay closely
