I think he was missing some velo and zip on his fastball like he has in the postseason and some of his regular season starts, but I think you also have to take the opposition into account.

If this is the excuse, then you're not a top level guy, which everyone knows he absolutely is. When you skip to the NLDS every team you're facing is really good. You have to play well against those teams if you're among the elite. We can't excuse every shaky start by just saying it's the playoffs so it's ok.

Well. He currently allowed half as many runs as Skubal did and recorded about the same amount of outs.

No, I make it sound like it's reasonable for people to have high expectations of what is supposed to be the best pitcher in baseball. Not consecutive starts where he's chased and his location is all over the place. 

It can be called a bad start and also one he managed from going off the rails. We don't have to say it was good though.
