Yeah, my guess is team control stays at 6-7 years. They might adjust arby to get players more $, earlier, and or raise the minimum wage substantially, but reducing control — no.

Would love to get Made extended but if he won’t do it we still have him for nearly 7 years, plenty of time to win another Championship or two.

I think it's more likely to stay at 6 years but with some exceptions. You hit free agency at 29 or 30 either way. That's... a proposal. I'd also really change the service time for the 7th year.

It's really 7 years at his point. What is it, 172 out of 187 days. So you can be on a roster 171 days as a rookie... doesn't count. I just hope they don't change it retroactively! Turang would be gone in 2 years(among several others... and I'm not sure we could justify stashing him in AAA a this point!).

It's about locking up a potential franchise player before he establishes his major-league value.

I don't think having every exceptional talent they develop stick around for 8-10 years vs 4 or 5 is as important as its made out to be.  If Made reaches his 100th percentile outcome and the Brewers have to trade him for a haul in 5 years that's not the end of the world imo.  Not saying I wouldn't extend him, just wouldn't do it at top of the market like the other guys I mentioned got.

The generational wealth stuff isn't a hill that I'm trying to die on.  I'm just generally a believer that humans are gonna human.  Just don't think having a ton of your young guys signed for 10ish years fully guaranteed is as optimal as it may seem.

The Braves are a decent example.  When all those guys signed extensions it felt like everyone thought they would be the next dynasty.  Its been a bit of a roller coaster for them as a team and those guys individually since.  They may have been better off trading some of those dudes after year 5?

Share more revenue among teams and raise the minimum wage to something like $1.5M/$1.6M/$1.7M to get a lot more $ to the players earlier.

Leave ST alone. Easy fix.

I would prefer to have an in season extension with Made, I think either way he is going to command like 8-9 years at 140+ like Griffin or McGonigle either way. I dont feel like a couple months in AAA is really going to change the price, so we would be best to wait.

For what purpose? That would be different than how they handled Chourio, Pratt, and Lara.  Plus doing it mid-season seems like a pretty big distraction.

Since Lara and Pratty already got theirs, safe to figure Made was also offered. Maybe he just declined.

I think that is a poor assumption.  Lara and Pratt were going into AAA.  Giving Made the offer would've put him on the 40 man while in AA.

Now, I could see that they already discussed it with him and his agent, but I'd be shocked if they offered it last year.

Good points. I like having some high-floor guys signed, and that's exactly what they've done with Ashby, Pratt, and Lara. It provides roster and payroll certianty, and of course, buys out FA years. But like we've seen with the Dodgers and all of their guaranteed contracts, or a team like the Phillies, who were begging teams to take Nick Castallanos off their hands; having guys locked into roster spots also takes away flexibility.

My point isn't that they should/shouldn't try to extend Made, but rather that there are reasons you don't want a bunch of guys getting paid a big league salary while they are on the IL, or spend time in AAA.

The risk-factor with extending Made for $150M, compared to extending Lara for $30M is pronounced, and yet currently, their floors are about the same. That is expected to change pretty quickly, of course, otherwise this wouldn't be a topic.

I guess what I'm saying is that signing Ashby, Pratt and Lara to their extensions is risky because you need to roster them, but signing Chourio and/or Made means not only rostering them, but starting them every day. I don't think Made is there, yet, for the World Series Champions.

It is exactly how they handled Pratt and Lara. Pratt had 261 PAs in AAA and Lara had 346 PAs.

This is going to be crazy fun to watch.  Someone has to move to 3rd.  Pratt?  Made?  Oh...and you have this fellow playing 3rd base in AA who just hit 50 home runs this year....and seems to have turned himself into a pretty serviceable 3rd baseman.

The good thing is there's time on all of this.  Neither Made nor Fisher has played an inning of AAA, so we'll have to see how they handle the move up.  I suspect that Made will play both 3rd and short for Nashville in '27, while Fisher plays both 3rd and 1st.  As for the extension...I'm not against extending Made, as long as it doesn't have a no-trade clause.  You want all options to be open and there is an awful lot in the pipeline.  I seriously doubt that he'll  sign anything until the CBA is done...its just not in his best interests, I think.  The numbers and duration will work themselves out after that.

I was responding to someone that thought they offered Made last year... when he was going into AA.  Read my OP... I specifically said offering one now would be the same timeline as they offered Pratt and Lara (and Chourio)

Not sure Fischer really turned himself into a serviceable third baseman (especially considering the Brewers high defensive standards at the MLB level).

Andrew made 18 errors in only 74 games at 3B this year, then played his last 34 games exclusively at 1B/DH to  close out the season.

Fischer will be a primary DH in the bigs.  Hopefully it will be as a Schwarber-esque DH.

Agreed.  I think you look at Blake Burke and Andrew Fischer as 1B/DH types only.  Fischer probably sees 3B similarly to what Vaughn does.

Luke Adams probably has more of a shot at 3B, but I don't see him blocking Made/Cooper at 3B either.  Or Pena either.

Pratt and Lara signed during the season, that is what I would prefer with Made. If we wait until say May we just will have a better understanding of who he is. As the #1 prospect we aren't going to get any discount by doing it during the offseason and if we wait until mid-season we are a little protected against an injury or other issue. I would be fine extending him in the offseason but I think waiting a little is only beneficial for the organization. When Lara and Pratt signed their extensions there was a slight disruption in that the didn't play for a couple days but the extensions didn't affect any development/

Touche'.  I remembered poorly.  Cooper was very early, but it was in season.

But I'm guessing Made gets the Chourio treatment... just skip AAA altogether.  The longer we wait (and he shows evidence of being legit), the more expensive it becomes.
