Do you know what time of the day your guys workout? Mainly mornings or afternoons? I love going over to Maryvale to watch workouts, but often get over there when no one is there and it seems real hit and miss.

Shameless self promotion #2. My story is up on the baseballamerica.com site under the majors section. Thanks again everyone.

Thanks for the link, Mass Haas.

It'll be interesting to watch Brent Brewer this year. Joshua is really, really high on him. I'm not saying I was necessarily down on him. It's easy to see his potential, but Joshua thinks he'll be a stud and that this is the season he'll start putting it all together.

Taylor was originally injured at the end of the regular season and waited to see how it healed per the teams request. Hope this clears up all taylor green questions regarding his decision to wait.

This is a perfect example of what I've been referring to and catching some flak for right here. Why does it take so long to determine a course of treatment for an injury at the professional level? This waiting game isn't uncommon for our prospects and MLB players, and I just don't get it. Some injuries will heal themselves over time, some don't and in my experience the line is pretty clearly defined. I understand the ramifications of surgery, not in only the cost, but in recovery time as well, but again it seems to me that Brewers drag their feet with the injuries, at all levels. It's probably just the high school football coach in me but I'd rather shut the player down immediately and take care of business so they are healthy and available for the other sports they participate in as soon as possible. It's served us well and seems to be the best interests of the athlete and his family. Getting back to Green they've now lost 5.5 months of recovery time which may negatively impact Taylor's 2009 season, I don't see how that's good for the organization or the player. At the MLB level an intelligent argument can certainly be made for gutting through an injury if your team is in the post season, but I don't see that same argument for prospects. If we can get definitive diagnosis and treatment at my level, I would expect better from a professional organization who's success relies entirely upon it's investment in it's players.

Maybe I'm way off base and Agent39 will correct me as he's privy to the intimate details, but these scenarios really frustrate me.

Josh, are you planning on being at spring training any specific dates this year, or will you be closer to the WBC events? By the way, how many of your clients are playing in the WBC this time around? For some reason I couldn't find a list of your clients on your blog, I thought that I saw it before but maybe not.
Everything I've ever known, I've learned from Brewerfan.net....Seriously though

Pass on our best wishes to Pena. I know he has been a long time client of yours. We hate to see him go - and wish the best for him in Seattle. (Unless we ever meet in the World Series!)

Josh inked Pena as a client in July of '07. Pena was barely 16 1/2 when he signed with the Brewers in July of '99, before debuting in the Venezuelan Summer League in 2000. Not sure at which points in his career he was officially represented, but he did have representation prior to signing on with Josh. Here's hoping they both benefit with a new opportunity.

I can't remember specific posters, and I know it was more than just one, but I know there have been some very loyal Brewer backers on the forum. I hope we get to see why they (& others) are so confident. Do I remember correctly that Brewer may have to move to the OF in the future?

I believe this was suggested by some posters in this forum given his overall athleticism and reportedly raw defensive tools at SS. However, his agent has denied that Brewer is being considered as anything but a SS. The speculation stems partly from our experience with guys like Braun, Weeks and now Gamel, and partly from the fact that we have Hardy and Escobar entrenched as the SS's for the 5-10 years.

My guess is that he is given all opportunity to play SS and if his bat beckons before his glove (a la Braun and Gamel) he may need to be moved. But again that is purely my speculation.

It is more than just speculation. Brewer played both SS and OF in high school, and scouts were split as to where he fit better. Since I have already had this argument with Josh (and others), and fully recognize that the Brewers have no plans to move him (or at least they didn't at this time last year), I'll leave it at that http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif.

I'm definitely looking forward to seeing what he can do this year after his impressive, although short stint in the AFL. He remains the best overall athlete in the system, and I've seen enough raw but talented players be able to overcome their weaknesses by their natural athletic talent to keep me a believer.

I'm the biggest Brewer backer here, (besides his agent) and I think he'll stay at SS. He cut his errors from 48 in 2007 to 35 last year. Thats pretty good when you consider he has bigtime range. All signs point to continued progress, I wouldn't be suprised if he posted an error total similar to what Escobar had at Huntesville this year.

The exciting thing is Brewer has more offensive potential than Escobar.

Hi Josh,

With all talk lately about player injuries (Gamel, Gwynn, Hall, etc), I was wondering if there is specific clauses in the contracts that allow reporting about these injuries that might otherwise be prohibited under HIPAA, etc?

Not Josh, but I believe the ruling is MLB is a private entity that isn't listed under HIPAA law and is required to share info that could change the outcome of a game or trade.

I was going to call you out on that, as I remember running the numbers around june 1 and he was on exactly the same error pace as the year before. I bounced around the usual sites and too my surprise he did clean up his defense game. His fielding percentage got better at each stop. As I previously mentioned I actually forced myself to quit looking at his lines in the boxscore so I didn't follow him anywhere near as closely as I did in 2007.

That being said there is no way he has more range than Escobar, and while his offensive potential is greater, his OPS by season is trending negatively while Escobar's is trending positively. Brewer has exciting potential, there's no doubt in his raw ability, his results just need to catch up so we really have something to talk about. I would love to have a similar debate with Escobar and Brewer as has raged with Hardy and Escobar, there's nothing wrong with depth and having multiple options to choose from.

Is it your opinion that Lo Cain broke out again last year? I'm expecting an Escobar like break out from him in AA in terms of BA, his power numbers should be much better.

Brewer has been pretty impressive since July, there's no doubt.
