That's exactly what I think should happen. It makes so much sense, it will probably never happen, though.

Portland Beavers is the PCL team there. They have pretty much been there since 1903.

 

There have been teams there called the Webfeet and Webfoots, let's do it.

Portland U is the Pilots I believe.

 

Portland was in the NWL (SS) for awhile -- I think after the Twins left them. Then they were the Portland Rockies, after the Bend Rockies moved to Portland.

 

Then San Diego came to town and they were a PCL team again

Nice one, invader. Portland Strip Club Managers. Seriously. These things are like convenience stores downtown. I work right downtown and if I cared to I could hit up a strip joint on my lunch break - there's one that's two blocks away. Odd.

 

For a serious suggestion, the Beavers recently polled the public (on their website) regarding a potential name change (they stuck w/Beavers - the unis are cool & the mascot, Boomer, is awesome), and one suggestion was the Thorns (the Rose City, for those unawares). I kinda liked that, but not over the Beavers. Plus, a thorn doesn't exactly envoke a powerful image, but one that's just kinda pesky. I suppose they could always be the Portland Ecksteins.

 

I can't talk about this much more, though - getting too depressed that the chances of a MLB team coming here are remote.

The stadium fight is not over down there. I don't know which is true....MLB really think Miami is the best place for them, or MLB thinks Portland stinks?

I do think MLB thinks South Florida is a valuable market, but I don't think the Marlins will ever really get better until they have new ownership, at the very least. They definitely need a new stadium, though.

I'd love to see a 3rd team in the NYC/NJ area. They could certainly support it (plus, how cool would it be to go to a MLB game in Brooklyn).

Miami is a top ten media market, Portland is slightly bigger than Milwaukee. Miami is a much better market its just the team want to cry poverty to get a free stadium.
