Curt Schilling - latest: Close to re-signing?

My only concern with Schilling is the potential for clubhouse problems. Curt was respected in AZ, but was not well liked by teammates. Having said that, I would think he'd know this is Prince's team. Plus, maybe he could help Sheets out a lot. Curt also had numerous injuries early in his career, although his were more serious (I think at least 2-4 shoulder surgeries)

If Melvin, Ash, Yost and Simba were not comfortable with it, I don't think they'd go after him.

That said, it's tough to turn down Curt Schilling if he wants to come to you.

Per Curt's blog, three teams contacted him today to express interest, two were on 'his list', one was not.

 

Based on Melvin's quote in the JS today, I'd have to think(hope!) that the Brewers were one of the three.

Doug said he'd call his agent, so I doubt if the Brewers were one. Also, seemed like there was no hurry, as he mentioned the 13th as the negotiations beginning day.

I never knew that about Schilling (or Sheff and Moyer) not having an agent. Only seems logical for a superstar player without an agent like Curt to come play ball in the only state that has a major sports team without an owner!

Yea Allen didn't. He hired some lawyers to do it with him. Ray's a bright guy to begin with and signing a max NBA deal probably wasn't all that hard to say yes to.

It's really easy for an NBA player who is about to receive a max contract. There is no negotiation or looking to different cities. Because of the collective barganing agreement in the NBA, Ray's contract was already spelled out for him. So all he needed was a lawyer to read the paperwork for him.

 

I don't think it is wise to go that route in MLB or NFL.

If they sign Schilling that does give them a wealth of decent and fairly young starting pitching to trade for a solid OF bat. I must admit I like the sound of it more and more everyday.

I'm digging it. Guys are realizing that Milwaukee isn't a bad place to play (just like Green Bay after Reggie came). Good place to play, good young team, on the cusp of winning lots and lots. Go get him!

It's surprising to hear Milwaukee come up in rumors this early in the running. Getting Schilling would be ultra-cool and the trade opportunities his signing would allow are exciting to think about. As a side effect, our media exposure would grow and definitely with ESPN which would further improve our free agent drawing power.

Schilling, Sheets, Suppan, Yo and Cappy as a rotation wouldn't be bad at all! Keep Carlos in the pen and trade either Bush, Vargas or Parra. There's a lot of potential there!

Why would we waste Carlos in the bullpen again? He deserves a chance to start.

I dunno, I think given the state of the bullpen you could argue that it wouldn't be a waste at all for him to hold the fort over there for one more year. Then he could take Schilling's spot.

Why couldn't Cappy, Bush or both be in the pen? CV was awesome as a starter this year and last year he deserves a shot.

I would rather have CV in the rotation than Cappy, but I'm not sure I like all five starters being righties. I know it's not really all the big of a deal, but I think it would be kind of nice to have atleast one lefty in there.

 

The more I think about it, the more I want Schilling. Make it happen.

Matt Hasslebeck has to be the weirdest "player/agent." NFL contracts aren't guaranteed and have such crazy clauses and legal speak that I find it hard to believe that any NFL player should be attempting to throw themselves into that ring.
