I bet his wife didn't feel like moving. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

dodged a bullet? that would have been an awesome deal if he would have done that with the Brewers (granted, it would have taken much more). $8M isn't a terrible amount at all, and the incentives just mean we'd only pay a lot if he was at least a decent pitcher for us.

I think the Sox got a real bargain to get Schilling back.

...heck, the Pettite situation isn't alltogether different, and it's a no-incentive $16M offer he has on the table for him, so that's in part why I see the Sox got a good deal on this one.

$16 million for a 41 year old with some medical concerns is the past is a lot to pay in an area that the team is pretty deep at. If the same senario was there for an outfielder I'd be on board. $8 million with incentives would have been easier to swallow but I don't think we get the same discount as the Sox may have got.
There needs to be a King Thames version of the bible.

Not any more. He turned it down today.

So if all incentives are met that would be a $20 million dollar deal. Obviously if he meets all the criteria he would have been well worth the 20 million

Actually I think it is a $14 million deal if he reaches all the incentives. It's a heck of a nice contract for the Sox.

I'm normally on the cheapskate side of things, but I just don't see much risk at all with any one year deal, pretty much regardless of the dollar amount involved.

Yep, especially when it comes to pitchers
