I had to look up Samantha Who? because I had never even heard of it and saw it just premiered in Oct. 2007. Kind of amazing a show that has been on for all of a month and a half is considered a top ten show for the entire year.

 

Dancing with the Stars? And here I thought things couldn't get worse after the Bachelor. What's next, a disco dancing challenge featuring Danny Terio and Charo?

I was a Nielson family for a year. The box records what channel your TV is set to watch. If you have a cable box it reads what channel you're watching on the box. If you're playing video games instead of watching TV it messes up the data, so you also plug your system(s), DVD players, and VCRs into the black box also. So they have exact data as to how you are using your TV at all times.

 

As an aside, when I moved they were happy to follow me and allow me to stay a Nielson family member. Until they came to hook it up and found out I had also changed phone numbers. I guess they pick households by random phone number so if you change your number you are no longer on the list. But it was pretty cool to get paid to just have a black box in my house.

I don't watch a single show in the top 10 primetime show or any of the top 10 buzzed about. Then again it's been pretty long since i regularly watched any show put out on the major networks. Besides sports on NBC/ABC/CBS/FOX, i almost never have those channels on except for checking weather forecasts and the sports segment on the news. I'll see advertisements for shows on these networks if i'm watching say a football game and they usually look so lame, i never bother checking them out.
