  2. With the bases loaded, it's a 50% of a run and the inning continuing, vs. about a 75% chance of the inning ending. But don't tell Bill Schroeder that! Ya gotta put the ball in play! What if you strike out?!? Also, you wouldn't want to hit a HR... that would rely too much on the HR. Better just put the ball in play & go for a single. (pared back some punctuation --1992)
  3. I'm not a big fan of so called insiders because they're just not reliable Based on what? You have nothing to back this up... I was referring to people that have proven to have insider access... not wackos that make random claims.
  4. I'd be really pleasantly surprised if Gillespie could even get us close to getting Hughes. [Melky Cabrera getting spot starts at the corners is] enough to make any GM cringe His defense is a plus at any of the three OF spots, so it's not like you get no value from him. However, I agree his bat is inadequate at the corner OF spots.
  5. A number of his outs have been well hit balls, such as the two long shots to the wall in deep right field in SF that would've been HR's in Miller Park. I don't want to do the math and know it's fudging the numbers, but replace two outs with HR's and I'm sure his numbers would look pretty darn good across the board Re-emphasizing that this is just an example... Rickie's line under this scenario is .314/.385/.795/1.180 If he's able to hit more line drives this season, I think he has a shot to produce around that projected ceiling people have been hoping him to reach for years. Even if you just assume a .260 BA for the full season, a .260/.370/.450/.820 line would be fantastic to get from your second baseman. In other words, yes... I'm still hopelessly in Weeks's corner. Also, boo to you, Randy Winn, for making two awesome catches in rightfield on nice shots from Rickie. EDIT: Fixed my stupid math
  6. I'll avoid a list since I'm so uninformed about our system, but... Fredrickson - he has a great arm and if he figures out how to throw strikes he could be dangerous. Hopefully his 3 BB/7 K performance in his (5 IP) '09 debut is a good sign.
  7. Ok... big 'duuuuuuuuhhhh' at myself
  8. I don't see how replacing your lefty backup first baseman with a lefty third baseman creates obvious bench issues, given that Rivera can play first and McGehee almost certainly could too. Remember, this is predicated on the idea that Gamel would be playing off the bench at least some of the time. Good point... I guess I was thinking of Gamel getting the vast majority of starts at 3B, so that's where my concern on bench depth came from. Duffy plays CF and will be a primary pinch-runner, given his speed, two things that Gamel won't do. Gwynn would. I'd like to reiterate my distaste for Gwynn, but like I said if the difference between keeping Nelson on the team is picking Duffy or TGJ, it's TGJ for me in a heartbeat.
  9. Congrats Craig... Now run! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  10. Go take a picture *ducks*
  11. I regret trading Cruz, but mainly because the return was 1.5 years of Kevin Mench. Classic, DougJones... classic. What kind of HdV/9 (Head value per 9 innings) did we get from Mench, though? Has to be a big number.
  12. No, obviously he was injured before. I'm saying that people need to quit grasping at straws. No one is grasping at straws here. This is (imo) a very serious situation, and given the confidence with which Neault spoke about Braun's woes, I'm concerned that there is something very seriously wrong with Ryan's back. As others have mentioned, Neault has been a stellar injury analyst, and the opinion of him should only (rightfully) inflate once the fact that he doesn't get to examine any MLB players first-hand is weighted. Chris is an awesome resource, and I encourage any & all to email him and/or comment on his blog. The DL Informer is hands-down my favorite MLB blog. I'd like to hear why you think that I/'people' am/are "grasping at straws", Invader. I can't see how that would be the case. I would hope I have at least a decent track record around these forums as being level-headed & rational. EDIT: And FtJ cracks me up... yet again http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif
  13. I've backed Rickie for what seems like forever, and it's so wonderful to see him really starting to reach his potential. I thought '08 was going to be his breakout season... just looking so far like I was a year early http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  14. I bounced for a bar that was a "get the extra money" kind of bar. There were many times when I would tell them that someone was overserved, and they would ignore me because the owners were putting way too much pressure on the managers to bring in revenue. The same bar told me to ignore IDs that I knew to be fake for the same reason That's ridiculous, man. Is [that bar] still around? I can only imagine how frustrating & trivializing that must have been for you. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif
  15. Wouldn't Duffy be the guy to DFA? He's not all that much better than TGJ, & losing Nelson creates obvious bench depth issues. In short, imho Gamel + Nelson + TGJ >> Gamel + Duffy - Nelson
  16. I've been one of Hall's biggest critics because he really does seem to be capable but refuses to make the changes necessary to improve. I can't personally speak to this, but I know there have been several posters/posts from those claiming to have 'inside(-ish) access' stating that Hall is a very selfish player that is about the least coach-able of the current Brewers. Hopefully it's clear enough that I think anyone should take that comment of mine with appropriate grains of salt, but there does seem to be some fire to that smoke.
  17. Whoops -- so, sorry I didn't see the 'Did Ryan Braun ever actually recover from his ribcage injury?' thread. Crap... I hate being 'that guy' Mods, obviously any help merging these posts into that thread would be greatly appreciated. Sorry for the extra work.
  18. 8/11/08 feature on Braun EDIT: bold & italicized sentence after 'Red Flag #2' is my emphasis
  19. I figured this could get its own thread, since it didn't really fit with Braun's radio appearance with Jim Rome. After a few BF posters stated concern over Ryan Braun's health status, I got curious & emailed The Disabled List Informer's Chris Neault to ask for his take yesterday. He pointed me to the write-up he'd done on Braun on March 25th. Below is Chris's email response to me, and after that is the text of the feature on Braun. His injury is not an intercostal strain. I think in all my years of being a PT, I have seen maybe one true intercostal strain. Maybe. This is a back problem, regardless what everyone says. [Read my latest post on his injury here.] [this was a link in his email to me... can't get it to show properly here, so use the 3/25 link I included above] This could be one of those lingering back problems. He eerily reminds me of J.D. Drew in terms of back health...just a hunch though. Chris I don't want to come across as just being an alarmist or sensationalist. This does sound like legit reason for concern imo. Here's the post to which Chris referred -- ** -- this sentence is a link to a write-up from Aug. 11 of last season
  20. Macha showing Nelson as the batter... wait... Dusty! Noooo! http://downlode.org/Creative/Writing/Notebook/Illustrations/itsatrap.jpg EDIT: Of course. Double play.
  21. Is this measured already by someone? Would calculating it mean anything in regards to pitching value?
  22. Bars should be required to have bouncers to keep drunks from leaving without a ride home. If that's not enough, anyone caught drunk driving once should be branded and forbidden from buying alcohol (heavy fine + loss of liquor license as a penalty), and any 'friend' serving the drunk assumes equal liability - both civil and criminal. As you probably know, bars (& their servers & bouncers) actually are legally required to stop serving those they deem overserved or 'served enough'... unfortunately this means it's a judgment call, and many servers & bouncers just ignore safety in order to bring in more money. As someone that has worked as a bouncer... & proud to say that it was at a bar that actually gave a crap about its patrons' state of intoxication as opposed to only caring about another quick buck... while I support your spirit there, putting the onus on the bouncers -- often/sometimes the only sober people in a bar -- just isn't fair. But I agree more needs to be done. It's disgusting, but I'm not sure how you effectively legislate against selfishness & ignorance http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif
  23. He's also a gamer, scrappy, gritty, and he calls a great game. Dare you question the tenets of faith?!
