  1. If the Brewers keep Weeks, Scooter will be down in Nashville. They aren't going to keep two guys who can only play 2B, especially considering the mishmash at 1B and the fact that they like to keep 12 or 13 pitchers around. Personally, I think that you have to give Weeks another shot. If he gets off to another horrible start, then you make a move.
  2. If he's limiting himself geographically, I'd bet on a return to Pittsburgh.
  3. You obviously didn't watch him last year then. I did. He may have had more good games, but he was a non factor most of the time. He certainly regressed from his career (contract) season. Even that year, he was inconsistent. At this point, he is content standing outside jacking 3's, with no real interest in defense or rebounding. As I said, I'd take anything for him just to shed the salary.
  4. Ersan is always in trade rumors, but I don't really get the interest. The guy is a poor man's Tim Thomas. He has a big game or two here and there, then disappears for a stretch. He really hasn't done anything since he got paid, and I don't think that he's going to get much better. At this point I would take a pick anywhere in the first round plus salary garbage/expiring contract for him.
  5. Tony Kornheiser describes someone who lives that long as "outkicking his coverage", meaning that his greatness is often overlooked at the time of his death, since there aren't many left who bore witness to it. I think that's true of Kiner the player. The other day on the radio, I heard that Kiner dated Marilyn Monroe back in the day. That would also qualify him for "outkicking his coverage" in my book. Until injuries brought him down, the guy was truly a beast. Very under appreciated player.
  6. A bit more money than I expected. I can't help but thinking that for a few million more, they could have resigned Hart and invited a few vet relievers to camp on NRI.
  7. I wonder what Oliver Perez would command?
  8. This seems like a good problem to have. Even as the debate heats up it doesn't appear as though we are going to end up with a bad player. Absolutely. I'm hoping that we have the opportunity for a spirited debate for a few weeks prior to the draft, which would mean the Bucks get #1. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the two most probable picks for the Bucks (assuming they hold their 'lead') would be first or fourth. That would be a huge swing.
  9. Ramirez will not be traded before the all star game. I'd bet my house on it.
  10. My question with Embiid is can he shoot, and can he convert free throws? He definitely has shown some nifty post moves, but he's going to need to hit those short/mid-range jumpers in the NBA. I don't think that he will be able to dominate the paint from the get go He definitely has the body and potential to be a force to reckoned with on the defensive end, but the Bucks have put a lot of eggs in Sanders' basket to do that.
  11. Basically depends on the 2nd base situation. If Weeks gets the job, I fully expect him to be leading off (don't kill the messenger), with something like Segura, Braun, Ramirez, Gomez, Lucroy, 1st Baseman, Davis. If Gennett gets the job, I'll bet Segura leads off and Scooter hits second. For what it's worth, I'd be very surprised if Weeks doesn't get at least a month with the job with Gennett down in Nashville. I've seen nothing from Melvin's track record to suggest otherwise. Big money guys get every chance to fail, and since Gennett only plays 2B, I bet he will get sent down to 'play every day'. Also, Weeks is seen as a clubhouse leader, so I really doubt that they will do anything, unless he can be moved in a trade.
  12. Irving is a great talent, but I'm not making that move. There are already rumblings that he wants out of Cleveland, so I don't think that he'd like it any better here.
  13. Remember when everyone laughed when the Nationals asked for Weeks for Chad Cordero? I'm sure that the Mariners would do the same if we expected to get Ackley for Estrada. As mentioned above, he's still fairly young, cheap, and versatile. I doubt if the Mariners would give up on him yet, even though he's been pretty brutal so far.
  14. Good luck to him, seems like a good guy. FWIW, I'm not buying in any way that he's 31, I would bet that he's closer to 35.
  15. Bottom line, the Bucks need a scorer. That's why I feel that they can't take a risk on Embiid. It seems that bigs taken high lottery bust at a much greater rate than average. The Bucks need someone to create a buzz, and I could see Embiid taking a while to develop. You will probably see a lot of 14 minute/5 foul stat lines from him at the beginning as well. They have to take whoever will make the most immediate impact. I have never seen Exum play outside of highlights, so I have to admit that I know nothing about him. However, I'd be pretty nervous about taking a guy from overseas that high. Most of them since Dirk have been disappointments at varying levels.
  16. If the Bucks get the #1 or #2, they had better not trade it for multiple picks. Wiggins is really coming on, and (defense aside) Parker would be the best player on the Bucks right now. Personally, I think that there is a big drop off after those two. Embiid is getting hyped to the moon, but I think there are some question marks on him. I thought that the whole point here was to go for the superstar, not to get multiple 'pieces'.
  17. It will be interesting to see how Lepay translates to baseball. He's very good at football/basketball, but there is a lot more 'downtime' in baseball.
  18. OK, a younger, cheaper version of Weeks. Ackley is on the same trajectory- a disappointing high draft pick 2B. Different style players, but Ackley's stats over his first couple of seasons are pretty similar to Rickie's.
  19. Ackley is kind of the Mariner's version of Rickie Weeks. I could see him as a good buy low, but I'd doubt if the Mariners would sell low.
  20. I really don't think the Brewers are going to do anything else at 1b for the time being. If everything breaks right, I could see them pursuing a guy like Butler at the deadline if what they have isn't pulling the weight.
  21. The Suppan signing was very easy to second guess at the time. A guy with very average stuff who was lucky enough to hit free agency at his career peak in an off-season with obscene contracts doled out. I agree that Garza is a better talent, and it's not even close.
  22. This has been a bad winter. Things have kind of run together, but I remember November being uns®easonably cold as well. I wonder where this one ranks if you were to throw November in.
  23. I believe that this will be the 44th consecutive season that Ueck has been broadcasted for the Brewers. I would have to think that'd put him right at the top. The only person that I could think with a longer tenure was Vin Scully. Ueck basically is the Brewers to me.
  24. I'll be the first to admit that I wasn't a fan of the Suppan/Wolf/Lohse deals when they were signed. That said, I really like the Garza move (probably a bad omen). To me, this move took the Brewers from a team where everything would have had to have gone right for the team to compete to a team that looks to be a mid 80's win team on paper. Is that enough to be a bonafide WS contender? Probably not, but I like to watch a team in the mix, and if these guys play to their potential, they should be competing for a Wild Card spot until at least late August. That probably sounds short sighted to those of you who want to blow up and rebuild, but I think that Attanasio feels the same way, I think that would be reflected in the attendance as well. In this day and age, any team with a decent amount of talent has a least a fighter's shot...who in their right minds would have picked the Red Sox as champs a year ago at this time?
  25. I'm with those that think this has something to do with the insurance company finding something on the physical that they didn't like. My initial reaction to this whole deal was that I thought it was a great move. At the same time, you have to wonder why Texas and/or the Cubs didn't show interest, they should have been able to beat this deal with pocket change. There had to be some reason that they weren't interested. I agree that the major concern here is that this falls through, and then the Brewers make the epic mistake of giving big money to the likes of Jimenez or Santana to save face. I would be furious if they did that.
