  1. "I've got my own style and the way I like to do things," Brewers manager Ned Yost said. "I think everybody wants to just vent and scream and yell, but I just think it's more productive for me and my players if we take a calmer approach. "Lou's done that forever. We all hate to lose. This is no fun for any of us, going through this. But still, my mind-set and my thought process is that the more steady and even-keeled we can stay, the quicker we'll get out of it. I don't want my kids pressing or stressing because I'm screaming and yelling at them. They got enough of that coming from the radio shows and the fans and their moms and dads, like mine." My bad,it must have been Yost that said that to TH. Here is the JSOnline article. Here is the link to audio. It is fairly early in the interview.
  2. No, and I am going to agree with Tom H on this one. It would be out of character for Yost to do that. I think it would send the message that he is panicking and cause the players to panic as well. That is how Pinella has always done things so it isn't out of character for him to do it. Homer asked Tom H about this and that was pretty much his answer. Also we really don't know how he is with the players behind closed doors. For all we know he has been on them for the last few weeks.
  3. I am not so sure about that.
  4. They were probably just mad that is cost them $3 to process it.
  5. Now if only the top of our order would start hitting. You know, our "good" hitters.
  6. It was 2 errors. One of those errors should have been a double play. Parra had to get 6 outs that inning.
  7. My concerns in order are 1. 3B Hall is not the answer. Maybe a Hall/Branyan platoon would be. The only reason to go with that platoon for next year would be to give Gamel one more year to get ready. I think they should consider finding a long term solution and shifting Gamel over to 1B in AAA. 2a. 2B 2b. 1B I am torn over whether Weeks or Fielder is a bigger problem. I guess in the short term it is Weeks, but Fielder either has to produce offensively at a level that makes it impossible to keep him or his defense makes him easily replaceable. distant 4th SS JJ is the only infielder I don't have concerns about. From all accounts Escobar is going to be an upgrade defensively wherever he plays. The problem is that he plays the same position as our best infielder and I am not sure he will hit enough to make it onto our MLB roster without a trade. I think Weeks bought himself at least a couple months next year with his post all star break numbers, but I think they will shop him around over the winter. I would be surprised to see any of our infielders traded. The only one having a good enough year to net much value is JJ. Next year I would go with 1B Fielder 2B Weeks SS Hardy 3B Hall/Branyan while shopping Hall around and getting Gamel ready to play 3B.
  8. Well it sucks, but right now it feels like we are going to lose every game even if our pitching only gives up 2-3 runs.
  9. I doubt it since he was bad last year as well. Besides that, he was stuck in a platoon specifically because he was sucking this year. It isn't like he was playing well and they just arbitrarily decided he needed to be platooned.
  10. The Brewers technically only have to win one more game to make the playoffs. Of course that means other teams would have to do a lot of losing so I wouldn't count on one win being enough.
  11. I would say looking at the huge split in OBP and Ba with RISP would indicate at the very least that teams are pitching around Prince. The low batting average to me indicates that he is swinging at bad pitches with RISP and might be better off being more selective. Of course given the sample size, it may all just be luck.
  12. I think JJ at the very least is just fine out there both offensively and defensively.
  13. At the start of the year I was thinking Fielder would get in the $9M range. Just a bit below what Howard got. Fielder doesn't have an MVP or ROTY. Yes, I know the awards are arbitrary and don't mean anything, but they do when it comes to salary. I thought the Brewers could get him for $8M and he would probably ask for $10M+. Now, I would have to guess $7M max and probably less. I don't see much chance of this not going to arbitration unless Fielder changes agents.
  14. As it stands right now, we would have to get swept by the Cubs and the Phillies would have to sweep in the last week of the season for them to tie us.
  15. I think they would have been chanting "we want ice cream."
  16. Considering what was expected at the start of the year, I am not sure we should be saying that 88+ wins would be a disappointment. Like Russ was sating in another thread, change around which months we got our wins in and we look pretty good right now. We can't control what other teams do. 88+ wins is a good season, but still might not be good enough this year. We played bad against some good teams and got swept at home a couple times. Expecting much more than a split in a 4 game series against any team is asking a lot. I would prefer to see winning baseball, but it doesn't really matter as far as whether I watch or attend games goes.
  17. They will carry games with teams that are in the Big Ten. The Michigan and Michigan State games are likely to be on BTN. Some of the Minnesota games as well maybe. I believe they had at least 4 games on BTN last year I missed. Most of their games are on FSN or PBS at 10:30or so. As long as I get to see them I don't care.
  18. I played the demo and it was really fun. The game itself got some bad reviews though. I will probably rent it instead of paying $60 for it.
  19. Pretty much sums up how I feel. I feel about our offense much like I did in April and May. They are all playing really poorly right now and there is no way they will continue to play this poorly.
  20. Badgers hockey starts in early October and I should have the Big Ten Network by then. At least that's what my cable company tells me.
  21. Our defense is poor and having a closer who relies on his defense is a recipe for disaster.
  22. The only thing that bothers my about Schroeder is his love of small ball. He always seems to be talking about bunting runners over, getting runners in motion, etc.
  23. He did throw another one away. Tough play on that one though. He tries to make plays when he should probably eat the ball. He also makes spectacular plays and misses routine ones. Very strong arm, but inaccurate. I remembered another positive, Weeks and JJ turning a tough double play in the 8th. At least it looked pretty good with Weeks scooping to JJ and JJ making a good throw to 1st.
  24. I would much prefer to see a no-hitter/perfect game pitched by the Brewers rather than at the Brewers expense as well. When it got close though, I mean what are the odds of actually seeing one in person, especially if you don't go to a lot of games every year? My family, well the baseball fans, would just go nuts. My brother and I were trying to explain the significance of a perfect game to my oldest son(he's 11). It would be even better than the year my brother and I almost went to 27 straight innings of shutout baseball by the Brewers.(ended by a run in the 9th of a Sheets start) Sorry, to go on and on, I am just thinking of how close I actually came to witnessing a perfect game and with little else to be excited about during today's game. By the way, a little disappointed that the Hart bobble is the same height as the other bobbles I have. I thought it should have been half a head taller. Only half kidding. I thought it would have been cool if he was taller than my other bobbles.
  25. I was at the game today and I reallllly wanted to see a perfect game. Once we went down by 10 I was hoping for something positive to come out of the game. Kapler's HR today had to be the first time I was disappointed to see a Brewer hit a HR. First the team completely deflates my enthusiasm by playing poorly and then once I start to get excited again they punch me in the gut again by hitting a HR. Gamel's first career hit is some small consolation I guess. That's the only positive I can take from the game, and it isn't much.
