  1. Personally I loved Fallout 3 and Fallout 3 New Vegas. I hated Borderlands with a passion. Its true that New Vegas isn't anything new gameplay wise, but its still fun and I like the weapons a lot better.
  2. Wow, our taste in music is so similar its a little scary. About the only objections I have to your list is I would have The National down towards the back end for the same reasons you noted on Spoon and New Pornos. Having not heard the rest of their albums, I would have thought this years effort rocked. And I know I am in the minority, but I just don't get Arcade Fire. Its like nails on a chalk board. I will also second people sticking with Age of Adz. I hated it at first, and now can't stop listening. I would have also included Seven's excelent EP, All Delighted People if for nothing else then the 17 minute song to his sister Djohariah, of which about 12 is just a guitar solo.
  3. I think its quite the opposite actually. A pitcher is much more likely to lose their physical ability than to lose their smarts. Blowing out an elbow is a lot more common than sudden amnesia.
  4. I'm pretty sure Gamel hits lefties better than righties, actually. He wouldn't need a platoon partner, he just needs to be able to play defense. I didn't want to go off topic so I was trying to avoid responding, but you are correct about Gamel. I don't get why people assume he should be platooned.
  5. I've been swimming in raw sewage...I love it!
  6. I think he complained about the batter's eye a while back.
  7. Its been a while since I read the comics, but I don't remember this CDC stuff at all.
  8. Went coming back to Chicago its an unwritten rule amongst my friends that we have to stop and get a whole Rock's pizza in Kenosha. New Glarus is also a big pickup right before the border too.
  9. I would guess $80-82 on opening day with the option to pick up salary to make a playoff run to the upper 80s. So pretty much in line with the last couple of years except for the last one where the owners were willing to lose money to make up for the dead contracts. I think the following year the new TV money kicks in though.
  10. So let me get this straight. Professional baseball players in the minor leagues have less coordination and emphasis placed on strength, conditioning, and nutrition than D-1 athletes or Texas highschool football players? And we are debating if there is an advantage to be had there?
  11. Lets go MU!!!
  12. Narveson will likely do at least that as a 5th starter for around $550,000 and he'll get you some big hits too. I think the Brewers have the 5th spot covered. It's the 2 and the 4 spots that need filling. If Washburn's still the guy he was in Seattle for 20 starts in 09 when he put up an ERA of 2.64, and you believe his troubles in Detroit were all injury related, and after a year off he can pick up where he was, then he's more like a 3rd starter and could be a relative bargain. That's a lot of iffs though. Keep in mind too, that his career WHIP of 1.30 is better than any Brewer starter posted in 2010, and far, far better than Doug Davis. Plus all his numbers were done in the AL. While I'd explore other options first, I wouldn't rule him out for the right price. I remember reading a scouting report where Washburn made a mechanical tweak to his delivery during the season in Seattle and attributed his success to that. Looking at the PitchFX data and his secondary stats, it seems more likely that he was just aided by a low BABIP and nice LOB%. There is definitely some value there over replacement, but as others have said NarvDog already provides this. On top of that, we have young guys in AAA now who I expect to step up and pitch above replacement level if they are needed due to injury.
  13. I don't think you realize the gravity of the numbers you keep throwing around. The idea that the Brewers could just trade a 30+ year old Fielder to the AL when he is making $22 mil per is not as easy of a fallback option as you make it sound. A 7 year contract is a lot of risk and it seems like you are treating that $160 mil like monopoly money. Boras was shooting for the moon when he brought up Texiera's contract for Prince. You essentially want to give that to him with 1 less year. It would be a terrible move for the Brewers to go that direction and a tremendous overpay.
  14. Before Jeffress' value drops? He is coming off two suspensions that seriously cut into his prospect value. A full season at AAA should see him shoot up the prospect lists. To trade him now would be selling nearly as low as possible.
  15. The reasons you gave just show that this is the exact wrong time to offer him a contract extension. We hold no bargaining chips at the table and Boras knows that.
  16. Pretty excited for the Duke - MU game tomorrow night. I hope MU can keep it close. They are going to need DJO to pick it up.
  17. http://is1.myvideo.de/de/movie6/99/thumbs/2973981_1.jpg Even if there is no vendetta, you'd think it might bother the Journal Sentinel that Witrado leaves that impression with its audience. I don't know, I mean how many years did we endure Hardicourt trying to run Weeks back to the minors. Now with Parra and Gamel it seems like you can just tell when these guys have it out for a player. If you watch the game, then read their story the next day its pretty obvious. Yet their bosses have let it go on for years.
  18. If I recall correctly, he really helped ignite the "fight" between Doug and Braun last year as well when Braun wanted the team to pick up some pitching at the deadline.
  19. Yes, but that is very different than an NBA sign and trade.
  20. Player dollar values need to be taken with a grain of salt. Fangraphs dollar values for Pujols the last few years are $30.8, $34.2, $41.7, $39.0, $35.8, $29.3. He may be the GOAT 1B of all time, but does anyone really think he should get paid that much? Thats exactly the point I was trying to make. Its been a while since someone has tried to use those Fangraph's $ values to decide how much to pay a player, so I was surprised to see some posters doing it here. Weeks should be paid according to how he compares to his peers at 2b. As such, saying that if he plays half a year he is worth $12 mil is fairly ridiculous.
  21. From personal experience, I wouldn't put much stock in the eye test at your local electronics store. They jack up the settings so much its fairly useless. When I purchased my 58" Samsung plasma, I read a lot of reviews on Amazon and AVS forums to narrow it down to 2 or 3 brands I wanted. At that point, I chose the one that was on sale since I knew they would all have quality pictures.
  22. Nobody was saying he is there to address arbitration. Rather that he may be there to meet with Doug about his contract next year to avoid arbitration since this could be a convenient time and location for him. In addition, there aren't really sign and trades in MLB.
  23. Are you arguing that we should then pay him based on a career year of Fangraphs's estimated value? If thats the case, why not sign Ben Zobrist to a 5 year, 188 mil contract instead.
  24. So what you are essentially saying is that a full year of Weeks is worth more than $24 mil per?
  25. I understand what you are saying and agree with it. However, a team that is in the practice of overvaluing players is not going anywhere unless they are a large market. Paying players what they have earned in the past may lead to a 50/50 chance of getting more production than contract. Paying players more than what they have earned in the past may lead to something like a 30/70 chance of getting more production than contract. Just throwing those numbers out there to illustrate my point, but this isn't a practice the Brewers should participate in.
