  1. As long as we keep a leg up with our Canadian scouting, I will be happy. I think there is something to be said for a team being more familiar with one area than another. Different sport, but about a decade ago, the Packers seemed to draft heavy on guys from Florida. It seems like a weird transition to Green Bay, so I would assume that they were just more familiar with these players for some reason. I don't know if its better or worse to put all your eggs in one basket so to speak. Perhaps it causes you to reach for a player like Rodgers while you have some inside info on a player like Fielder, who some other teams passed on. Again, positives and negatives. I guess we just have to wait to see what direction they go in and the end results.
  2. Fallout 3: I am at level 15, and have played for over 60 hrs (I sometimes pause it while I do something where I know I will be back to play later in the day so that number could be wrong). This game has been more than helpful at passing the time since getting laid off from my job. I almost feel guilty playing it so much while collecting unemployment, but in this economy theres not much I can do. I can honestly see myself playing through it again as an evil character, as there are so many options/towns/people that wont interact with me the way I know they would if I were a bad guy. And also, who doesn't love whipping out towns of innocent people trying to scrape together a life in a post apocalyptic wasteland.
  3. I will just post the link as I guess some people could consider this to be political, but this is the funniest video I have ever seen on the onion. My friends and I have all watched this several times. Its basically just making fun of old, grizzled men. http://www.theonion.com/c.../old_grizzled_third_party
  4. I know he hates being referenced to his father, but if he plays off of his family name for reputation and money, he's just a hypocrite. At this point, if this report is true, I believe he thinks he is worth more because he's a Fielder. I know I am making an assumption, but that is bad news. To try and relate this to his estranged father is a very large stretch in my opinion. He clearly has a chip on his shoulder, but it seems to just be his way to motivate himself (successful or otherwise). I truly believe he thought he would be hitting 50 hrs every year and get a deal like Big Poppy once he hit FA. With his body type and poor defense, he probably should have cashed in when he could, but I am glad he didn't.
  5. Just to chime in again, you would not believe the hate that manifested itself at the end of last season in Chicago for Vazquez. I really think Suppan may actually get the deal done right there. In terms of having both of them in the same rotation, I say no to that.
  6. Living in Chicago, you wouldn't believe the negative press Vazquez has gotten from the local media and fans. The team basically threw him under the bus towards the end of the season. I know he has been very popular around Brewerfan.net because of his peripherals and I think he would be a great addition to the back of our rotation, but I don't know how happy I would be about him and Soup in the same rotation. If they are the #4 and #5 starters, that is fine, but then the top of the rotation would need to be upgraded as Yo, Parra, and Bush before them would not be good enough to make the playoffs. In that rotation, you are basically replacing Seth with Vazquez. Contracts and upside considered, I am not sure that is such a good move. All that said, I would expect Vazquez to put up around a 4.5 ERA in 200IP next year, which is what I expected of Soup going into last year...makes me nervous for sure.
  7. With Counsell's option not being picked up, Escobar's role next year seems obvious: Counsell's old job as backup 2B/SS. In my opinion, there is exactly 0% chance of that happening. He is too good of a prospect to waist a year of development and team control on and I really can't see how that has any connection to Counsell's option.
  8. Is Teixeira the best player to hit FA since perhaps Vlad? The only player I can think of off the top of my head would be Beltran when you factor in that he plays CF, but I think Teixeira brings more to the table with offense and still very solid D.
  9. Well, I actually like OAR and have seen them several times at Summerfest. I am a little suprised that so many on this board have not even heard of them. Sort of off topic, but they are referenced in this sweet Bugs & Cranks posting (LINK). I realize many Cub fans have busy days of checking their PDAs for available OAR tickets and already exalting next season's squad of highly-compensated chokers over some $12 Goose Island pints in Wrigleyville with your old college suitemates who still regularly quote Caddy Shack. If you live near Wrigleyville like I do, that sentence is perfect on so many levels.
  10. Did anyone else get confused that suddenly they went from dressed up for Halloween to back in regular office attire? Was I missing something? It was especially confusing because they started it off with Jim, Michael, and Holly walking out of the office...none of whom I remember seeing in costume from before. It took me a while before I realized they had advanced a day ahead...or rather over the weekend since Halloween would have been a Friday. I agree on the Jim/Pam/brothers part. I think it could have been much better if they had better actors for Jim's brothers. Sometimes the awkward humor is really great on this show, but those guys couldn't pull it off like Steve Carrel sometimes can.
  11. Ive broken down the video and think I have that move down. If I get too drunk to dance I can always just throw a volley ball at people's faces and yell "Green Man!" On a side note, the suit doesn't leave much to the imagination and seems to be pretty cold. I am planning to wear my ski long underwear underneath, but this could be a very uncomfortable night. Totally worth it though.
  12. I am going as Green Man from Its Always Sunny. The suit cost me $30 shipped from China. Its going to be hard to go to the bathroom with all the drinking though as the zipper runs down the back.
  13. Not to hijack, but I foresee a lot of Brewers-Mariners trades in the future as Geno said. Seems like this always happens when two franchises are tied together in any sport(Brewers-Toronto-Texas, Packers-Seattle).
  14. You could go to Paddy's Irish Pub if you ever watch "Its Always Sunny In Philadelphia." Not sure where exactly its located but my friend went their and had a pretty good time. I was there about 8 years ago and don't remember too much besides thinking that the historical stuff was kinda cool when I usually hate anything educational.
  15. You wanna talk about conspiracies? A quick internet search turned up this info. Apparently some guy wrote a book in 1999 about the FDR-Pearl Harbor link while I wrote my paper for Sophomore US History in 1997. Coincidence? I think not. LINK
  16. Would you mind, if you can remember, sharing some of those links? I'm curious now. This was back in the day when I was forced to use the library system for references. I will look around and see what I can find though, as I am sure someone has researched this and put it online also in the 10 years or so since I wrote it.
  17. Simple: Escobar replaces Counsell as the backup 2B/SS, and the Brewers save about $2.75 million. In my mind, you basically giving up 7 mil on the tail end of Escobar's arby years or at the very least signing him to a long contract a year earlier only to save 2.75 mil. The cons vastly outweigh the pros on that suggestion. Keep things simple is right though. Hall/Branyan to start the year may not be sexy to the fans, but it will get the job done and hopefully be average. Then look at Gamel as plan B depending on what happens with all 3 players.
  18. In regards to those 9/11 conspiracy theories.... I have a friend that believes that crap. How can I prove to him that 9/11 happened as it really did. He's convinced the US government did it, hes watched some video on youtube. He claims that the hole in the pentagon doesn't look like a plane. etc I wrote a paper in high school linking FDR to Peal Harbor. I was in no way saying he was responsible for it, but there is a lot of compelling evidence that he knew it was going to happen and did nothing to prevent it besides moving some ships to lessen the damage. This is true. I can't tell you how many technical job listings I see here in Vegas requiring current Top Secret clearance. This of course has to do with Nellis AFB in addition to Area 51. I believe the majority of the top secret testing is done at Andrews now as opposed to Area 51. My guess was that too many people were watching 51 since it kinda became a "cool" place thanks to movies and legends. In terms of people claiming to have seen UFOs in the area over the years...well that makes a lot of sense because the US has been testing experimental aircraft and missiles there for years. Wouldn't those qualify as UFOs to the average person without top security clearance? If I saw an SR-71 or a B2 fly over me during testing 10 years before they were unveiled to the public, I would claim I saw a UFO too.
  19. I heard Bradley doesn't even believe in dinosaurs. No way I want someone like that anywhere near our young core! EDIT: I thought that was an old Onion article, but upon google searching, it turns out that I was confusing Carl Everet who actually does not believe in dinosaurs...I'm not trying to make fun of anyone's religious believes.
  20. How is Brenly unattractive? Correct me if I am wrong, but I seem to remember him being considered a very poor in game manager from his time in AZ. Just because he has a winning record wouldn't necessarily mean he is a good coach. That is sort of like saying a W-L record is important for a pitcher. There are a lot of other factors.
  21. A couple questions about SunGrasses posting: --Wouldn't a player have worked out something as important as housing before the season? For example, when me or friends would do a summer internship back in college, I wouldn't have gone to Madison for the summer without an apt or something lined up. Is it generally expected that the organization does this work for the players so they don't check into it before hand? --How is a player suppose to fill out and increase power numbers if he has no kitchen or food? Shouldn't the organization be making sure that these kids are well fed? --Is it like this for all players, or just the "lesser rated" prospects? I can't imagine Prince or Rickie ever had trouble finding food to eat back when they were in the minors...or maybe they were more set up since they had extra money from their signing bonuses. Thanks for any extra thoughts SunGrasses as this is an aspect that those of us who don't live in a minor league city would never really know about.
  22. His power and on base rates are better through age 25 than Brian Roberts'. Let's face it; on a good team Rickie would have stayed in the minors at least another half season, if not another year or two. He only had about 850 minor league plate appearances before being called up. The Brewers had every right to call him up and run Spivey off. In 55 games, he was OPSing 1.090 as a 22 yr old 2B in AAA and at the time looked like he was going to keep getting better and better. The front office had no way of knowing he would be injury prone and streaky once he got to the majors.
  23. Remember that his amazing second half came when Durham was on the team. Now, was that because he was "trying" harder or because he didn't have to face as many tough righties. I think the optimal solution here is to weak platoon him with a lefty defensive specialist who can play against tough righties and come in late when we have the lead as a defensive replacement. Is there a player available like that?
  24. My childhood heroes were Paul Molitor, Paul Newman, and Steve McQueen. He changed my life just by being Cool Hand Luke. I'm now 26, so his early work still had an impact on my generation. I still remember when I was in college up late and made my girlfriend watch the entire Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid when she thought we were just going to use the movie as an excuse to be alone and hook up...it ended up being one of her favorite movies too...yea I am a dork.
  25. MKE or drive/metra into the city and go to Will's.
