  1. You posted this before the end of the 3rd quarter, right? One thing's for sure, Nebraska isn't better defensively this year. 528 yards, 0 sacks, 2 TFL.
  2. It is not in the Milwaukee area. Think of the hint I gave...
  3. That trade right now is nothing less than dodging a bullet.
  4. Willing to bet a large sum of money that the OP does not have a "Yosted!" t-shirt. Speaking of that, @Brock Beauchampshouldn't "Yosted!" be one of the reactions that we have available?
  5. Were we separated at birth? I was 9 at the time too... and I begged my parents to take me to his return game in 86 and they obliged. Have the ticket stub mounted in one of my Brewers collages. Some similarities between that trade in 83 and the Brewers trading Hader this year. Did those trades take the heart and guts out of their teams? Seemed like it did in 83, some arguments that it did in 22 too.

  7. "All afternoon"? He had retired 7 of the last 8 before the start of that inning. You don't panic because a guy gives up a leadoff hit.
  8. He was on the phone, they had a guy warming up in the pen.
  9. I think some of y'all are overvaluing the trade value of a light-hitting LF who hasn't proven anything above A-ball and are undervaluing a LHRP who, over the last four seasons, has a 2.95 ERA across 174 innings with 8.3 K/9, 3.5 K/BB, and 1.16 WHIP.
  10. The Brewers always do this with rookies - they give them a day to adjust, get over the nerves/awe, see how the clubhouse works and how guys interact, and then put them in the lineup the next day. The exceptions are if it's an emergency spot start for a pitcher.
  11. For several years now the Brewers have not sent top pitching prospects to the AFL. Robinson may have an outside chance because he's a reliever, but the Brewers just don't send top SP prospects. They send them to their lab. I will bet money that Gasser and Rodriguez will not be selected. Mitchell, Devanney, and Black are good calls if Black is back from injury. I'd put Valerio and Brent Diaz as having a good shot, with Darrien Miller and Ernesto W. Martinez as dark horses. My guess is Devanney, one of Diaz/Miller, and one of Black/Valerio/Martinez. As for pitchers, my guess is the pull from guys like Vennaro, Luis Contreras, Hasler, Zavolas, Meeker, Middendorf.
  12. Nijman is the rare guy who they could easily trade mid-season at the trade deadline. Spotrac has his salary at $965K, so any team would be able to take him on. Keeping him would give coverage for Bakh and Jenkins through the first eight games of the season in case any of them get injured/re-injured, and it gives eight weeks for other teams to have injuries at LT and create demand for Nijman. If Bakh and Jenkins look good to go health-wise they could flip him at the deadline for future picks or perhaps a player at a position of need where they get injuries.
  13. He isn't better than Tellez and he isn't better than Hiura, so what's the point? FWIW, if you believe in advanced analytics, here are Tellez's ranks among all MLB hitters according to Baseball Savant: xwOBA: 18th xOBP: 34th xISO: 8th Avg exit velocity: 21st (Yelich is 20th) Barrel %: 13th My gut feeling is that the Brewers believe that the best predictor of getting a base hit is some combination of exit velocity/barrel % (and among players with at least 100 PAs, Tellez is roughly in the top 1/3rd of lowest K%). So I would not hold my breath thinking that they are going to bring in anyone to compete with Tellez or Hiura for 1B.
  14. Since the middle of June, the Cubs have a better record than the Yankees. They jettisoned their anchors (Simmons, Villar, Rivas, Bote, and got Heyward and Schwindel on the DL) and have been a different team the last 2.5 months.
  15. I'm personally a big fan of that brewery. The bock is good, but the Sea Salt & Lime, Weiss & Easy, Ruby Redbird, Strawberry Blonde, Light Blonde, and S'Mores are fantastic. I see they have a Toasted Amber - going to go and look for that this weekend. If the Bonfire Brewskis is a variety pack, I'll be grabbing every one on the shelf.
  16. Hanson is the backup center. If they cut him, they have to keep Menet. Don't say Tom, because he hasn't played center since 2019 and I haven't heard of him practicing any significant amount of snaps at center in camp.
  17. Agreed - Valerio was in my consideration set (actually, the next guy at #7), but like others have said every year there are guys like him available but rarely picked. I agree that they are more likely to lose Devanney (harder to find a SS with good offensive production than 2B) than Valerio, and I don't see them having more than six spots to add people, thus why I had Devanney on my list and not Valerio.

  19. Neither you nor I nor anyone outside of the Brewers front office know the answer to the first question. But for a LF without much power, I doubt that the Brewers could get a player with a higher upside without Peters showing an elite hit tool above A-ball, which he hasn't so far. It's a small sample, and all I said was that it's premature to judge whether this trade was a "screw up". As for the second question, teams generally weigh performance against top competition more heavily even if it is smaller samples than larger samples against lesser competition. Whether that be AA, the AFL, the Cape Cod league, etc., teams value production against better competition even in smaller samples. Again, all I said was that it's premature to call the trade a "screw up"; if Peters doesn't significantly improve in AA, then it wasn't a "screw up".
  20. Definitely: Turang, Robinson Probably: Jarvis, Uribe Maybe: Castaneda, Devanney

  22. There's a small chance that he becomes the next Michael Brantley, so there is some risk and Rosenthal's injury status posed some risk. But you're correct in that leftfielders without much power need to have a really elite hit tool in order to make the majors.
  23. There's also no need to label it as a screw-up yet. It was high-risk, high-reward. Aren't those the types of moves we want the Brewers to make when in contention?
