  1. Looking at Peters' results so far in AA, it appears that is a premature conclusion.
  2. No, he isn't. He turned 32 at the end of May. No, the ceiling was replicating the 2015 Royals who turned every game into a 5-inning game. Get into the playoffs, shorten the rotation to Burnes/Woodruff/Peralta/Lauer, have them go twice through the order and then turn things over to Bush/Box/Rogers/Williams/Rosenthal.
  3. With adding a draft pick next year for CVL, I'm wondering if the Packers try to acquire a veteran safety in exchange for a 5th-7th round pick in next year's draft.
  4. Since the middle of June, the Cubs have a better record than the Yankees. Let's not pretend that this is the same Cubs team as April and May. It isn't - they got rid of Simmons (.431 OPS) and Villar (.598 OPS), sent Rivas (.630 OPS) and Bote (.692 OPS) down, and got Heyward (.556 OPS) and Schwindel (.635 OPS) on the IL.
  5. Caleb Jones went undrafted for a reason. Two preseason games against 3rd string guys who are unlikely to make the roster is unlikely to change teams' perceptions of him. We also aren't seeing what is happening in practice against legit NFL starters. That being said, with questions still lingering on Bakh and Jenkins it's possible they keep him as insurance. But two preseason games is only a fraction of the picture with these guys.
  6. Burnes has been struggling to hit his spots all game. Came back to bite him big time.
  7. Don't know. You can probably check their article archives and see.
  8. 1) Minimal. Between being out of market and not able to see games unless they are on MLB network and knowing that the roster spots are pre-determined except for one or two bullpen spots, I'm not terribly interested. 2) Here, Brew Crew Ball, and Bleacher Report's Brewers feed on their app 3) As far as I'm concerned, I wouldn't make much effort to find/consume any more coverage than I already do
  9. With Bakh and Jenkins coming off of the PUP list, spots on the OL were getting squeezed so it appears that the Packers have traded Van Lanen to Jacksonville. Sucks for the local kid to be sent out, but good for him in that it will be a lot easier for him to make Jacksonville's roster and have a NFL career there. OL spots appear to be locked in - Bakh, Runyan, Myers, Newman, Jenkins as your starters with Nijman, Hanson, Tom, Rhyan the reserves. Will likely try to sneak Jones through to the PS along with Walker if he doesn't go IR.
  10. Not a back office, but you are correct in that it is a tavern in Wisconsin. The Chief Oshkosh memorobilia may be a hint...
  11. No Ozzie Smith mirror. Might be a different collection as all of the mirrors are of pre-1970's legends (Ruth, Cobb, Young, Banks, Gehrig). They had an Aaron one, but someone offered them an absurd amount of money for it so they sold it.
  12. Wonder what Dodgers fans are saying about their team after getting shut out by the Brewers #4/#5 starter and a couple of AAAA relievers. Clearly they didn't acquire enough bats at the trade deadline.
  13. According to B-R.com, the Brewers are 12th in the majors in wins above average at the DH position. Technically the Brewers DH has been average (0.0 wins above average) but above the median (12th vs. 15th). The Astros are #1 in wins above average at the DH position and have had 10 different players as the DH this year.
  14. Not so much anymore. More teams use the DH now as a means to give players partial rest instead of taking them completely out of the lineup than use it as a means to get an all-hit, no-defense player in the lineup. Do you want the Brewers to call up Frelick? Because the other day he was the DH and batted leadoff.
  15. The rules say limit of 13 pitchers but don't say anything about minimum. I read "limit" as a max and not a mandatory number.
  16. Old data, but according to Baseball Savant, from 2008 to 2014 league ISO at the top of the zone declined significantly and contact rates on pitches up in the zone have declined. The problem with targeting the top of the zone exclusively is if you miss high you increase walks/pitch counts and if you miss low.... ball go far.
  17. How does that compare to the rest of the league? My understanding is that now that most pitchers throw at least mid-90's that very few hitters in the majors can hit fastballs at the top of the zone.
  18. Where am I?
  19. Just for poops and giggles, I wondered what the antithesis of Hiura would look like from a sabremetric standpoint. So I wondered, who would be the antithesis of Hiura? Tony Gwynn, Sr. Here are Gwynn's career numbers (in parentheses are Hiura's 2022 numbers, not including today's 2-HR game) Career K%: 4.2% (2022 Hiura - 43.0%) Career BB%: 7.7% (2022 Hiura - 10.3%) Career ISO: .120 (2022 Hiura - .225) Career BA: .338 (2022 Hiura - .239) Career BABIP: .341 (2022 Hiura - .393) Career wRC+: 132 (2022 Hiura - 128) The takeaway? There's more than one way to skin a cat in today's MLB. And if you don't have much power, you need to have an elite hit tool in order to create runs.
  20. I think the answer is bench Yelich, McCutchen in LF, Hiura as DH against the lefties.
  21. What are the odds that Caratini gets thrown out of the game in the next half inning? You know there's going to be some conversation behind the plate.
  22. Caratini has a .368 OPS over the last 14 days prior to today
  23. Because of course the Brewers hit a ball 103mph and it's an out and the Cubs backup catcher makes a perfect throw to 2B on a steal attempt.
