It's really hard to say. The Rays' offense, unlike the past few years, wasn't that great. And it was heavily dependent on Pena and Floyd. Even there Floyd wasn't that good. Longoria for a full season will help and everyone's favorite future superstar (for the past 6 years) Crawford likely isn't as bad as he was this year but they need some help. Getting a Dunn or Giambi would help them a lot. And don't look now, but everyone's favorite "Milwauke should have signed him instead!" closer, Troy Percival has been incredibly bad in teh second half
I'm not sure how giving up PAs is supposed to help a struggling offense. Counsell should bunt when he comes up with a man on 1B no outs and Kendall after him because both are extreme groundball hitters with no power but outside of that its really pointless.
Hall happily moving from SS isn't something that happens very often. The player doesn't usually go full Shefield but very few will move happily if it costs them moeny and it would cost JJ lots of money. In addition Escobar's bat just iosn't ready. A Branyan/Hall platoon with Lamb on the bench and Hardy at SS will vastly outproduce anything with Escobar in the lineup. Let Escobar develop some power before burning his cheap years in Milwaukee.
If you replace Weeks with Suppan then yes, otherwise you add too much salary and give away too much talent for an oft injured 3B who may never hit like he did again.
Pence's BABIP came down from an ungodly .378 in 2007 to a more normal .305 in 2008 and his OBP came down to .315. Now if they move him back to CF you can deal with it, but he doesn't seem to have the talent for a corner position. As to Hart, he is King less and walking less while hitting more GBs, my guess is that he was told to go up there and be more agressive. Tejeda is hitting .283 against RHers, but his OBP is still .309.
See I think this pretty much means Houston is a bad team that even a superhuman performance by Lance Berkman could do very much to help them go anywhere. Tejeda's almost Bill Hall bad and is really expensive, Lee is about out his prime, and Hunter Pence is a bust.
Actaully I think it means Dale spends too much time reading badly informed sports opinions. First it was how Durham every day was the answer! Now its the Brewers have to bunt more! I swear its like listening to Joe Mulletski from West Allis calling sports radio.
I hate having to keep brining it up, but I guarantee you Hardy;s agent is well aware that Jeter's deal expires in 2 years. Meaning that it would take a huge chunk of money at this point to sign Hardy past his arby years. Something like 6yrs./$60 would be in line.
Pierre's OBP the last 4 years: .326, .330, .331, .318. He doesn't hit for power and he can't get on base. He is also bad defensively with a terrible arm. If we trqade Suppan, who someone might axtually think could pitch, why taken on a huge anchor?
I have no idea why I wrote 330. The point is that before the last two game Weeks had twice the PAs of Durham which is the exact opposite of what would happen if there was some platooning going on. The number of players who are actually better not paying most of the time is small.
It was already picked up for a second season. That doesn't mean it can't get canned, but its pretty solid. Most cable channels air full season fo the shows they air, keeping in mind their seasons are 13 episodes long (meaning you can have 2, even 3 seasons in a year) compared to a network's 26-28 episodes.
No, Hart really hasn't been good most of the year, he was ok for the first half and downright dismal since the All Star break. As to who plays RF, Brad Nelson. Yeah he isn't a world beater defensively, but he's left handed and can actually hit unlike Gwynn.
Don't go counting your first rounders before they hatch. There has been talk about CC to the Giants, no first round pick. Talk of Sheets to Atlanta, no first round pick. You also have money in Baltimore, Detroit and Texas.
Escobar's bat is not ready. I don't understand why people are dying to see Neifi Perez on the Brewers. Yes Escobar had nice numbers in AA, but if you look past the line you see they just don't transfer to the major leagues. First his ISO was .106, which is much better than what he has done before but still very little power. Yes he hit .328, but that only lead to an OBP of .364 which is bad when you consider it was all BABIP driven. I see no way he can get a BABIP of .375 in the majors. So take away 40 points off his BA just for that. Then take into account its the major leagues and you are likely looking at a .250/.290/.340 line.
"Brittle" Sheets has thrown 196 innings this year. Anybody who heard that in April would be rejoicing. He's been the 7th best pitcher in baseball this season. But hey he left two games early!
