  1. I wonder if the modeling starts to break down in this extreme of a case, namely that many extra outs could translate into additional innings pitched and I'm not sure if that is accounted for well.
  2. I would agree no guarantees, but we also have a good chance of being able to give our shelves a soft bye at the end of the season and the offense and defense are ascending at the right time. Kraft, Reed, Watson, Doubs and Jacobson all playing well is as high powered as it gets with so many different ways to attack. And some pass rush to go with some coverage
  3. I'm kind of curious to here from any professors these days how classes are going with this amount of transferring.
  4. I wonder if there was any thought that maybe Durbin shares some of his tricks for squeezing out more power with Frelick and Turang? Coaching and video tape are one thing, but having a teammate making it work might just be helpful in a different way.
  5. Woodruff and Cortes if they pitch close to career numbers would definitely take the QO because they stand to make a ton more in FA, both but Woody in particular is old enough that this would be his last chance to really get paid in FA. Civale is probably fair to question if they would.
  6. I would bet no as well, and it's as simple as asking how many Hall of Famers would you want on your team at a premium price for Age 26-31 vs. How many Hall of Famers do you want to pay premium price for Age 32-41
  7. I don't know that he will exercise that opt out. There are a lot of headwinds on sports revenues at the moment, and in 5 years even if performing he is no longer nearly a unique talent 31 year old DHs don't scream new 10 year mega deal
  8. The getting let go by Aranda is an interesting tid bit.
  9. Could be worse we could be debating the merits of signing Jeff Suppan or Jeffrey Hammonds to multi-year deals...
  10. The playoff is a joke, all the same yappers that promised it would settle everything can't figure out who's in or out and it's really pretty clear it should be just be a single game between the winner of the Big Ten championship game and the SEC championship game, and we just acknowledge like it always was that the entire season is a not quite single game elimination tournament already.
  11. The most obnoxious thing about it in my opinion is that after that 30+ year run under multiple head coaches our status still seems so fragile. There's been plenty of big name programs that have under performed us in that time frame and yet I guess we aren't legacy program because we weren't really good by the 1960s or 70's (not sure when this intangible reputation cut off begins which is part of the frustration)
  12. Somehow the defense kept this to just two scores so far. But in the realm of hot takes I here the Bears need a headcoach...
  13. Getting the early lead certainly helped, but the run defense overall was very good yesterday
  14. Keep it coming, no mercy.
  15. Great decision for the TD
  16. I do fondly recall Brewerfan having yearly get togethers at a Snapper's game, so there's definitely a hat tip for the new mascot from me.
  17. I mean the simple answer is he's just that convinced of his own greatness.
  18. I mean everyone but the Jets could see it coming. And it has been bad enough this year that it is a tough sell it would have been any better last year without the injury. Now the extent to which everything has gone as comically bad as one might have predicted ahead of time that's been a little over the top but entertaining.
  19. I'm normally patient, but with the transfer rules, I think you have to see results by season 3. Your not relying on your first group of recruits to be seniors in the same way that you used to.
  20. Well the defense definitely came to play tonight, holding to a field goal is pretty huge there. Gave the team one last chance to win.
  21. Didn't watch, but UW scoring over 100?
  22. Allen Lazard 13 million, that's like voluntarily resigning Jeff Suppan for big money after you already know he is nothing but a 5th starter.
  23. Feels kind of like Griffey just amazing seemingly forever and then falling that far that fast with injuries.
  24. I'm inclined to think in the abstract having a more reliable kicker in the 40-49 yard range is more valuable than being those some few percentage points higher in the 50+ category. Which is to say that with the way offenses tilt I'd rather my team was motivated to get that extra 5 yards or so in the two minute drill and be near certain they are getting the points, compared settling for almost but it's still in 'range'
  25. I remember a Rob Neyer article from years ago long before any of the current defensive metric were invented looking at Andruw Jones defense and some other OFers and it came to the conclusion that while he was good a big part of his stats at the time was that he tended to take a large share of easier outs that other fielders also could have gotten too. I haven't studied the current methodologies closely in quite some time, but I wonder if the Brewers OFers defensive numbers run into a bit of a ceiling because they are so good they are competing against each other for those opportunities (and now probably some higher difficulty outs in between them).
