  1. I was impressed that he apologized to Dino by name even if it does open himself up to a lawsuit in the future. The statement as a whole was fine with me, I don't think it is necessary to explain further in future or anything like that. Time to move on and hopefully he comes back at a MVP level.
  2. I don't expect them to do much in the off season, Aoki being traded for something. I expect them to begin with 13 pitchers. Segura Gomez Braun Ramirez Hart Lucroy Davis Gennett or Weeks but they both won't be on the team. Bench: Schafer/Francisco/Bianchi/Maldonado with Halton/Gindl seeing time in the majors early. Gamel sticks around if they get a decent offer for Francisco. Starters: Gallardo Lohse Peralta Hughes Nelson/Hellweg Bullpen: Henderson Badenhopp Gorzelanny Figaro Hand Wooten Thornburg Sanchez I actually like the lineup and cheap effective bullpen. Starting pitching being the major question mark.
  3. 8-5 isn't that much time to see stuff in Chicago but if you really want to see the Sears Tower it is only a couple of blocks from the train station so maybe check out the wait time. Since you have limited time maybe take a cab down Michigan Ave and the Pier and walk along there. There are a lot of great museums but like you said there are time restrictions. Basically I would recommend more time if you really want to experience Chicago, not what you want to hear but just being honest. Edit: There are a lot of sight seeing trolleys kind of like what Vince Vaughn does in the Break Up which would give you ideas if you go again.
  4. Nice to see that the Brewers had some fight today even if they do come up short. Good job again by the bullpen.
  5. I'm more concerned about his defense than his strikeouts. His defense is so bad that his 800 OPS still results in a zero WAR. Now if he somehow had an OPS greater than 1 like Chris Davis then I wouldn't really care too much about his defense.
  6. Not a fan of the HD on Uverse. Seems that they are a step below TWC on HD and internet but cheaper especially during promo period. Can be tempting with the issues TWC has with ch. 4 right now but I wouldn't switch to Uverse.
  7. Aoki's lack of hitting after his hot start is concerning so I would certainly have no problem with Davis playing next year. Good to see Davis is making the most out of his opportunity, same for Gindl when he was up here.
  8. I agree that is kind of silly of a rule but I guess they put it in place for the extreme when somebody goes too far. For example, today is the last BP day and there is the possibility that somebody or a whole bunch of people try to trade in tons of those vouchers and you end up with people just keep on walking in and out of the stadium and that could probably get a little crazy. In the process there will be people that actually want to go to the game that can't because of the people walking in and out.
  9. Not sure how the problem would be solved since he can't hit, better option than Yuni at first but that is about it.
  10. I have been hot and cold with Francisco. When I just look at his offensive stats he certainly seems like a decent option for the lefty part of the platoon. When I see him in person though he does seem kind of lazy and real poor defensively. Maybe best case scenario he puts up a 850 OPS for the first half of next year and they are able to trade him for a prospect. They then can bring Morris up for good and control him though 2020. Along the way they hopefully can give Halton at bats to see if he can contribute at the big league level and maybe platoon with Francisco to start and Morris to end the year.
  11. Too bad that Rodriguez likely won't be playing when the Yankees come to town next year.
  12. I can see this being abused if it isn't tightened a little bit more. If there is a close play in the first couldn't Roenicke just go out to talk to the umps to make sure they saw the play correctly while somebody watches the play and relays down to challenge or not? Basically not a fan of the challenges, just have a guy in the booth buzz down.
  13. He had a horrible outing yesterday, giving up 6 runs. I don't know what the deal is with him but he pitches well for long stretches and then has these absolutely terrible days where he gives up five or six runs. Maybe the manager should have a quicker hook with this guy as well. Edit: There are four outings where he gave up 23 runs in 4 innings. You can't cherry pick stats like that but besides those four outings he has a 2.98 ERA.
  14. Regarding Braun and 2014 I don't doubt he will hear boos on opening day but once everybody gets that out of their system they will continue to cheer as long as he continues to produce and provides optimism to the fans. On the other hand if he struggles, I'll leave that to the not optimistic for 2014 thread. To continue on the 2014 optimism it looks like Peralta could be an ace and he is under team control for another five seasons. I am also rather optimistic that Gallardo will return to form and just needed to give his arm a rest. Lohse is also a much better pitcher than I thought so maybe the starting pitching won't be as bad next year as some dread. The team also seems to have a number of young, cheap and talented bullpen arms. Also no Yuni in 2014.
  15. Come on now, you really have to look into it to determine if Tony Gwynn or Adam Dunn is a better hitter. I assume you have seen both play, sometimes all you have to do is use your eyes and not go too far into the numbers. He had a .338 career batting average and hit over .350 for five consecutive years, batting average does still means something contrary to what some say.
  16. If you can't arbitrarily take out stats you certainly can't say if Weeks wasn't such a bad defender he would be decent. He is not a good defender and can't hit so he is not a good player and should not be starting.
  17. That is a real poor example and not even close to the argument MNBrew is making, really reaching to try to make a case for the horrible play of Weeks the last two years.
  18. Melvin and company were not anticipating an end game of 2 nice runs they were looking for a World Series and almost had it if not for a hot Cardinals team. There are still things that you can't plan for and they were very close to winning it all. I don't consider you revisionist history with Greinke or Marcum I just consider you wrong because even with hindsight I would say they turned out to be good moves that almost won them a World Series, which would have been worth it. In the process they got a franchise type player and a couple of pitching prospects so in my opinion that was a great job because Melvin gave them a chance to win it all and then got young talent in return.
  19. Well there is still value in getting on base and even with his struggles I will give him credit for somehow still being able to take walks and getting hit by pitch. If that goes away he is pretty much worthless as a player because like you said he can't hit anymore. Have to disagree when you say his fielding is better, seems as bad as it always has been.
  20. We know that Bonds is an all time great, he was still the best when Sosa and McGwire were overshadowing him. We just saw how ridiculous it looks when the best player from an era is on PED's. Doesn't take away that he was the best and ultimately why he will be in the hall of fame one day, because it is very difficult to argue that there was anybody from this era better than him. MLB and the players association is certainly at fault for not dealing with the situation sooner, if they would have tackled the issue sooner then Bonds would have never done this there would be no question he was a top 5 or 10 player all time.
  21. The guy starting for the Yankees tonight, no not A-Rod, Andy Pettitte.
  22. Wouldn't care if Betancourt, Gonzalez, Lalli, MDLS, Manzanillo, Olmsted, Rogers, Prince and Axford were removed from the 40 man today. Would probably give Fiers one more year, pay Badenhop in arbitration since minimal money is getting put in the bullpen and then Melvin has to prioritize between Hart/Halton/Gamel/Green/Francisco/Morris. I like Halton more than most and wouldn't mind him and Gamel getting a large amount of playing time next year and let Morris get better in AAA. I don't really know if there is really a spot for Green anymore because they already have 2 guys who only play second, Bianchi/Francisco already play third and there are other options at first. Maybe Francisco can get traded and Green stays.
  23. I think it is hilarious when Diamondbacks fans and media mention this. Does anyone ever call and tell them they should never call them World Series champs because their 2001 team was filled with known PED and steroid guys.
  24. It still seems isolated to me, always happening around bar close.
  25. Was looking for some relief help on my fantasy team and saw that Caleb Thielbar was having a pretty good year with the Twins, a .68 ERA in 26.1 innings. Looked further and saw that he was drafted by the Brewers in 2009 and then released in 2010. Any insight on why a lefty arm was released so soon after being drafted? The Brewers could have had the only two Caleb's in the majors since 1871. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/t/thielca01.shtml
