    The Rays always seem to get a young pitcher in return with these trades but in this case there is no reason for Henderson to go as well if Mitchell is being traded. They would maybe even take Henderson for Ramirez straight up.

    Not a lot in the rumor besides the Brewers considering Garrett Cooper.

    That was two different playoffs. The Packers lost to the Cowboys again after upsetting the 49ers in 1996. The Packers were the top team in the NFC and the favorite to win it all when they eventually won the Super Bowl in 1997, killing the 49ers at Lambeau along the way.

    I live in the Madison area now as well. They are horrible, maybe not much they could have done with the drastic change in weather but pretty much every side street is bad. I have tried to stay on the highway as much as possible because those are clean. I did drive some roads in Verona and those were much better, not sure if they salt there.

    Sheffield should get in but the PED stuff is still hanging over his head. Would be odd for him to get in when so many before him didn't.

    We will have to wait and see on the spend part. Looking more and more likely they will keep all three but they are still trade assets.

    So with the previous trades and non tenders that leaves Burnes, Williams and Payamps. Would rather not deal with the drama of another hearing with Burnes but guessing it goes that way.

    I will be disappointed still if the Packers lose because I don't think the Cowboys are all that great but yeah the next week against the 49ers would likely get ugly.

    If Mark really needed to finish ahead of the Cubs he would give Arnold a larger budget. Even with Burnes they are well below last year's salary.

    A really late off season move was signing Willie Randolph in April 1991. He had a great season, finishing third in batting average, on base over 400 and WAR over 4.

    I saw Bauer was making some interview rounds this week. I'm not seeing his market being very high still. He is likely morally corrupt and a jerk but possibly not a criminal. Wouldn't be the first in baseball and not the last. Would see if the Brewers can get him at their price, which would be low with team options.

    I don't know what the breakdown of the voting was but a pretty good chance that the only reason Suter was in the top 20 was because of Clancy. I'm sure if we went back to that thread there would be a lot of people ripping on him.

    Saw both Wonka and Iron Claw over the holiday. Wonka was better than I anticipated. I really didn't need to see the orifinal story rehashed again so it was kind of fun to see a different Wonka story, think he is an interesting character and plenty of room for sequels down the road. Never really thought of Hugh Grant as a guy that would play an Oompa Loompa but he did a good job. Iron Claw isn't exactly a fun holiday movie but if you know anything about the Von Erich Family then you already knew that. There is so much to cover in a two hour movie but overall did a good job of telling the story with some artistic license that wrestling fans would know but doesn't impact the story for the general audience. The only thing I really did not like was the omission of Chris Von Erich because it did impact Kerry and Kevin so much.

    It's a minor move that provides another left handed bullpen option. Can't make any conclusions on Burnes or Adames from this transaction, the guy was DFA by the Dodgers so the Brewers grabbed him, not a big deal either way.

    Was open to this when he got injured but probably would have the Brewers pass. I'm not liking Woody's chances and the Brewers can't afford to throw this money away. Hopefully for his sake, a team like the Dodgers is willing to take a risk.

    That would appear to be a lateral move, doesn't really improve the current team and get no potential players to help the team in the future. If it is a move to help the current team not real interested in filling the 1B hole to create an even larger hole at SS.

    I do think there would have been playing time for Taylor, especially with the injury history of Frelick/Mitchell and the way Wiemer struggled and the necessity for more time in AAA. With such a minimal cost would have liked to have seen if Taylor could continue his second half success. Agree with Briggs that Taylor will the opportunity with the Mets so is a good spot for him, with the Mets potentially getting a productive, cost controlled outfielder for a couple of years.

    A day later and would have liked if the Brewers would have received a bit more. If they like Rea more than Houser, fine, but still would think Houser was worth more when other starters are getting so much in free agency. Would be interesting to see if they were shopping Houser all off season and just didn't find other takers. If they end up spending this money elsewhere then have to take that into consideration but I am skeptical their team salary will meet or exceed the 2023 amount.

    That was true until 2023, brutal against lefties last year.

    I don't think Burnes will be negative, he knows what to expect from arbitration and based on some of his comments is content with this being the last season with the Brewers. The Brewers have done a lot of half measures over the years, balancing staying competitive and still bringing in fans. If they do keep Burnes I hope they make some moves to make this offense better. If they roll with the youngsters I don't see it going well and being to make it up with a couple of mid season pickups like they did with Canha/Santana.

    Another thread reminded me that "man up" can also be added to the Bingo card.

    It doesn't make much sense to project Gasser as a bullpen guy to start the year when they have Elvis and limited SP depth. Just project random minor league catcher as a backup, it certainly won't be Quero. Jones has a better chance of a DFA than an opening day spot, Perkins or Miller there. At least he will always have that hit against the Cubs.

    These signings/trade are guys on the fringe/depth. If they were acquiring more high end, high leverage relievers then maybe so but they are not doing that.
