  1. I think the point is that relatively speaking, a young SP with ace potential has far more value than we think he does. Then why aren't we talking about trading Burnes?
  2. Comment from SD crew when Blake Snell blew a fastball by Urias for strike 3 in opening inning : "I seem to recall Urias having trouble catching up to good hard stuff when he was here" The SS battle is far from over. Arcia was at times the best hitter in the lineup in 2020.

  4. In 2017 between AA and AAA he hit .315/.352/.498 and only fanned 71 times in 522 PA He followed that up with .297/.328/.527 in the big leagues with only 97 K's in over 600 PA He missed almost all of 2019 with a shoulder injury. Contact hitter with power is a rare combination. Sure he doesn't walk a lot in part because he puts the ball in play. Those guys are valuable as run producers who can get a guy in from third with less than two outs. I don't think the question is whether he can hit, it's if his shoulder is healthy enough for him to play third. He did play there in half his games in the Dominican Winter League this winter. All the questions brought up simply lower his trade value especially buried as he is in the Yankee depth chart.

  6. Yardley is a lock. His 62% groundball rate gets him out of a lot of tough spots with one pitch especially with Wong in the infield.
  7. By the time the AAA season was going to start, there will be at least 25% of the population fully vaccinated. It's ridiculous to prevent athletes in their 20s from living normally. I get it when they wanted to prevent younger people from infecting vulnerable groups, but in another month a very large percentage of seniors will have been vaccinated.
  8. Barring eye opening stuff in spring games, I suspect he'll end up the same way Gallardo did a couple years ago. He wasn't awful in Arizona, but just not being awful against minor leaguers in camp doesn't get him a roster spot on opening day.
  9. It was a nice thing to get in the gift shop at spring training. But with fewer people there, I get that it wasn't going to be worth the cost to have it printed. Always nice to have on the throne though but yeah, it gets outdated in a hurry. But then again, I always loved Who's Who in Baseball for the same reason.
  10. Or he decided to drop the bach from his name over the confusion on whether it's pronounced bock or back
  11. Nice job keeping us up to date on Brewers Tom H and Adam M. Imagine a story on a Packer having surgery that will keep him out half a season being delayed by more than three weeks? Well there's a roster spot when he goes to 60 day IR. Figure Boxberger is in line to get it with Shaw waiting for the spot of either Maile or Nottingham.
  12. If he has enough confidence in himself to take a one year prove it deal, I would hope the Brewers would get involved. May take a while longer for him to realize he's not getting 3 years and 45 million coming off his 2020.
  13. Lindblom will be 34 in June and is one of the older starters in the league. Hauser is 28. They hardly qualify as young guys.
  14. I would argue he's one of the top rotation options after the first two. He's been spectacular at times but maddingly inconsistent. In his age 24-25 season I'd want to give him one more shot at being a starter. Houser's been better out of the pen, and he's 28 years old. I think his upside is fairly limited compared to Peralta.
  15. I think I had Rocky Rococo's once a long time ago when I was in Wisconsin. I didn't think it came close to the pizza in Chicago. I'm no fan of any Chicago teams but when I make it back to Wisconsin, we look for fish frys on Fridays, and prime rib on Saturdays, and wait till we're back in Illinois for pizza.
  16. I'm in suburbs, and I prefer any of the Moretti's locations. Their deep dish is okay, but their thin crust is why I go there. The other places that are great are Home Run Inn, and of course an old favorite that is still around, Barnaby's. Haven't tried Pequod's but I will keep it in mind.
  17. More than launch angle or the shifts, it's the increase in pitcher velocity that is responsible in the dramatic increase in strikeouts. I knew a guy who went to high school with a lefty pitcher named Bob Kipper, who was the 8th overall pick in the 82 draft out of high school. Now to be the 8th overall pick out of high school today, I would think it would take a 95-97 mph heater at minimum. My co-worker told me Kipper wooed the scouts with a steady 90 mph fastball that occasionally touched 91 or 92. Want to see guys today that throw that hard? Go see an independent league game and you'll see plenty of 90-91 mph fastballs. I think moving the mound back a couple feet would result in a game more like we saw prior to the last 10 years or so.
  18. I'll be interested to see if Ryan Aguilar can get on the radar and possibly join Spanberger as first basemen with some potential. That .403 OBP he posted at Carolina in 2019 kind of sticks out.
  19. Miguel Andujar is buried on the depth chart of the Yankees. I get his defense is in question especially since his shoulder surgery, but we're talking about a guy who was 2nd in the ROY voting in 2018. He just hasn't played a lot the last couple years. Brewers should be scouting him daily.
  20. In 2018 the Brewers scored the 12th most runs, in 2019 they were 15th. BPro projects them to score the 13th most runs in 2021... https://www.baseballprospectus.com/standings/ You might just be putting too much emphasis on an already small 60 game sample made all the noisier by a global pandemic altering the season & life in general. Or maybe not, guess we'll have to check back at the end of September. Stearns & company were in on Turner, a bat first player, so the second half of your statement is even more overstated than the first half. A run saved is just as valuable as a run scored + offense costs more than defense on the open market + the Brewers are poor compared to other MLB teams = Stearns & company's strategy makes sense to me. Except in 2021, balls aren't put into play very often which lessens the value of defense.
  21. As great a prospect as he is, Luis Robert did not set the world on fire for the White Sox last year in CF (.233/.302/.436) and 73 K's (32% rate). White Sox are obviously all in and Cain could provide veteran leadership and take pressure off Robert and maybe they like him more than Bradley. White Sox also got very little out of Encarnacion as their primary DH last year and having Cain to DH while sharing CF with Robert would make sense for them.
  22. It really was the M.O. of that 2018 team as well. The defense was good and made the pitching (Cough.... Chacin and Miley..... cough) better than they otherwise would have been. The Brewers staff is already going to be good, the defense will make it better. I'd like it if they could add ONE thumper bat, but I think they could be very good regardless. I can't see this team winning even a weak NL Central with this offense. Its great that the pitching and defense look good but this offense looks about as putrid as it was last season. How much defense do you need behind Burnes (13.3 K per 9), Woodruff (11.1), Williams (17.7) and Hader (14.7)? They accounted for just about 35% of the total innings.
  23. Maybe teams with a young 3B who is blocked are asking about Taylor? Sure Garcia and Yelich can play CF in a pinch but I don't think playing Garcia there last year helped his offense nor do they want to move Yelich from LF. That would leave Taylor as primary backup in CF and if he could be used in a package for help at 3B, they'd need more depth.
  24. That they are telling Adam McCalvy this doesn't really mean anything. They wouldn't blab about something Cain told them in confidence. Actions indicate otherwise. It's not just the interest in Bradley. Derek Fisher signing sort of came out of left field (pun intended) when they already had a similar player in McKinney. The other possibility is that there are teams out there inquiring about Cain.
  25. Cain next? Anyone that opted out last summer with a 60 game schedule would be a possibility with a 162 game schedule. Mistrust of the vaccine seems to be a real issue in the African American community. I've gotten the vaccine as a senior. It was about the same as a flu shot. It's a great feeling knowing I've got a high level of protection against this thing. I'll continue to wear a mask in public, but I just don't get the reluctance. Getting the vaccine is liberating. There was a disturbing report that up to 70% of African American athletes will refuse to get vaccinated. That just exacerbates the problem.
