  1. Can we have the Sky Sox play all their games on the road like Biloxi did a couple years ago?
  2. Stearns seems to value defense more than Melvin. I was just looking at the defensive stats of Fangraphs. Really the only above average defenders were Perez at 3B and Nieuwenhuis in CF. So how do you start putting together the best defensive team moving forward? I do think you trade Gennett. Perez is more valuable at 3B than in the OF. Villar at 2B, along with Arcia and whoever is at 1B has the potential to be an above average defensive infield over the next couple years. And they'd have to be around for a few years because really, are there any infielders above low A who you would expect to be starters for the Brewers?
  3. http://m.brewers.mlb.com/news/article/194047288/brewers-move-clint-coulter-up-to-double-a/ McCalvy must be confused because Pena wasn't on the 40 man, right?
  4. It has to better than High Desert and Brevard County next year, right?
  5. But they have filled in with some 2013 draft pick trades: Knebel, Nottingham, Wren, Collymore.
  6. Obviously more to it than numbers. Strictly looking at numbers, a case could be made that he earned a promotion after last season.
  7. Thanks to the 81 strike, it has never happened.
  8. So now we're just waiting on Ortiz
  9. Sounds like they want to give him some ABs to get ready for next year. http://www.jsonline.com/story/sports/mlb/brewers/2016/08/02/top-prospect-orlando-arcia-join-brewers-tuesday/87944900/
  10. Is the Brewer's track record really that much worse than the rest of baseball for first rounds picks? I've seen analysis stating anywhere from 66%-73% of first round picks make it to the majors. In Melvin's first 9 drafts (2003-2011), 7 players made it to the majors and a few of those were key trade chips. That's 77%. Of the two that missed, you have a clunker (Arnett) and bad luck (Covey - And he could still make it to the majors). The big problem was overall drafts were poor. It will be key to see how the 2012 and later drafts end up.
  11. Looks like it won't be Braun to the DL. I'm thinking it's going to be Santana. http://www.jsonline.com/sports/brewers/ramon-flores-colin-walsh-must-produce-at-plate-b99728666z1-380208491.html
  12. I see that Guez was released when Reed was activated.
  13. I've been tracking the minor league records since 2000 (R-AAA, not including DSL or VSL). They have had exactly 4 winnings seasons in 17 years. 2016 -7 2015 -94 2014 +11 2013 -68 2012 -57 2011 -69 2010 -10 2009 -16 2008 -41 2007 +89 2006 -8 2005 -37 2004 -42 2003 -20 2002 -4 2001 +19 2000 +11
  14. Here's to hoping that he's the last aging, FA pitcher we have to sign to a multi-year deal. It's so nice to finally have legitimate starting pitching coming up through the minors.
  15. I think the 40 man spot will work against Perez. They already have to add Cappy and Boyer. Liriano to the 60 day is 1 move. Not sure if there is another 60 day DL move. I don't think there's another guy you'd risk losing just to keep Perez.
  16. I don't recall Orosco, but no discussion of strange injuries is complete without mentioning Matt Wise and the salad tongs. There was also Gennett and the shower caddy last year.
  17. The bullpen competition is turning into who will be the last 7 standing.
  18. I don't have the article now, but it graded all teams offseasons. In the central, the Cubs got an A, Brewers a C+ and the others C- or D. So only the Cubs had a better offseason.
  19. When I-94 gets rebuilt, including the stadium interchange, it may take enough parking that they would considering building a parking structure, though it would only be for employees. http://www.bizjournals.com/milwaukee/blog/real_estate/2016/02/miller-park-may-get-parking-structure-to-make-up.html
  20. Nothing specific to pitching, but here is a timely article about player development in general. I don't know how Flanagan will do, but I think replacing Reid Nichols will be one of Stearns most important front office moves. http://www.jsonline.com/sports/brewers/brewers-want-minor-leaguers-to-get-plenty-of-attention-b99663144z1-367431181.html
  21. It would have been less of an issue now, if they hadn't had so many bad drafts at the same time that they were trading prospects. If you keep the talent coming in, you can make these kinds of trades when the time is right and not kill the minor league system.
  22. It will certainly impact how the NL rosters are constructed, so you would hope there is enough time between its approval and when it's implemented. I imagine it also impacts how you draft a bit. I prefer the NL style of play, but it's hard for pitchers to become good hitters when the minor leagues give them so few opportunities to hit in game situations (not until AA and even then, not every game).
  23. If they are lower level guys, why lose guys to open 40 man roster spots?
