  1. pebadger - you are doing great work here.
  2. Exactly. Baseball has been in the "steroid era" since as soon as players started experimenting with the stuff, and it's going to be for a long, long time.
  3. Postseason? You're talking about postseason?
  4. No doubt. It's been too long.
  5. So... what happened? I assume everyone was tendered? I figured it would be in Haudricourt's notes today, but it wasn't.
  6. I think when he's not over-worked, he's a good pitcher. Obviously, keeping him away from LHB's would help, too.
  7. Back in the day there were always Luke Scott threads. I'd love him as a guy off the bench with some pop.
  8. I'm a big fan of Pena, but I do want to see Gamel play every day somewhere.
  9. No, they probably wouldn't have spent that much. Which makes me think that he'll certainly be traded for whatever they can get. Most likely they would have spent a little bit of it on Hawkins and Saito, though. K-Rod accepting arby certainly seems to have been what caused them to not be able to sign those guys.
  10. I'm a big fan of this move as long as McGehee isn't playing 1B.
  11. Funny, I was just thinking the same thing. If you take a step back, that seems a lot more likely considering MLB has never leaked one before. It would be a terrible idea for Braun's people to leak this story. Once it becomes public, it becomes that much harder for MLB to overturn it. As someone mentioned earlier, it becomes a slippery slope once MLB overturns even one case of a positive test. If they overturn this, then people can start going back and looking at other failed tests and questioning them. In a lot (if not most) of the previous positive tests, the accused have claimed innocence. As Jimmy Rollins hinted, there may have been overturned results in the past that MLB has kept quiet. As soon as these results became public, Braun loses a big chance of getting them overturned. If they leaked it, it would be because he was guilty.
  12. Funny, I was just thinking the same thing. If you take a step back, that seems a lot more likely considering MLB has never leaked one before. On the other hand though a reigning MVP has never tested positive before and the juicy gossip might have been too hard to keep secret. It still would surpise me that Braun's folks would leak this; especially if they thought they had any chance of winning the appeal. The only way they would leak anything is if they knew Braun was guilty as sin and wanted to try to sway the court of public opinion. To bad Braun's PR team put the ax to Braun's idea to hold a press conference explaining everything; it would certainly clear things up a bit. Obviously he couldn't talk about it without screwing up his defense I'll believe that Braun's camp has a valid defense when I see it; all that we know now could be PR spin for all we know. It just sucks that this is going to drag on for a month and I am sure DM and Mark A would like to know if Braun is going to be out until June. If I were them I think you have to assume that he will be. Yeah, I pretty much am leaning toward it being PR spin because, like others said, they had never had a leak before. Even with Palmeiro, when investigative reporting on steroids was at it's all-time high, and he had just recently testified, etc. Just seems odd, especially when one would think the commissioner's office is going to try to protect Milwaukee, as well.
  13. Isn't it possible that Braun's camp could have leaked the info to get out ahead on it and portray him as the little athlete against the big bad testing system? I'm not saying I think that is the case, just that it's an angle that is possible.
  14. But why would Braun do that? He's not over 40 years old, and he's not a teenage boy with developmental problems.Because it's an easy way for athletes to use steroids. Tons of fighters use it to get around the rules.
  15. I think in some of those penis enlargement pill ads that are on late at night, they claim to raise your testosterone as well. Testing positive for that I'd imagine would be a highly unusual circumstance and unprecedented in MLB. I could also see why he wouldn't want to divulge the details to the public if that were the misunderstanding. That's what I'm hoping for. Braun would be exonerated and have another endorsement to ad to his list. If he has an elevated testosterone level that wasn't natural, it really doesn't matter where it came from. That's a PED.
  16. It's just the way of the world. When there is a 24 hour news cycle, things will always be reported when they are not confirmed, etc. People end up uninformed/partially informed, and rely on the first version of the story as the official one all the time. It's like how the original story is printed on the front page, but the correction is on page 12C.... Basically, it doesn't matter once the cat is out of the bag, because he will be branded as a steroid user among the idiots that make up the majority of sports fans. There is a general lack of nuance. All that said, I don't care if he did some sort of PED. What makes me mad is that he was dumb enough to get caught in this day and age.
  17. Yeah, but it doesn't work that way. Ask A-Rod, Ortiz, and the other 50 guys who had their names leaked a few years ago, when the testing was supposed to be anonymous to begin with. The whole testing policy is a joke.
  18. Oh, well, I guess. Steroids are a big part of the game and they always will be. Only shocker is that Braun was dumb enough to get caught.
  19. And DeYarmond Edison were pretty awesome.
