  1. I don't see how you can consider 6.5 overpaying, IMO that is a very reasonable rate for a very good closer. I don't care if he is 41, he is still an excellent pitcher, and I can't wait to see him closing out games for the Crew. Maybe now Peavy would approve a trade to Milwaukee?
  2. I'm a big fan of Manny Parra, and I think he has a very high ceiling. The man has great stuff, is a lefty, and from everything I've seen and heard is a smart pitcher and a big time competitor, so I'm going to predict a 3.40 era in 200 innings w/ 190 k's. This is going to be his breakout year.
  3. It sounds like we have a good chance to acquire Trevor Hoffman, I don't care how old he is, he is still a great pitcher and I'd be very happy w/ this acquisition. I hope its a two year deal, partially because I don't want to see them have to find another closer next off-season, and because I think we'd be getting a discount w/ how this off-season is going. Hoffman, McClung, Villanueva, Riske, Stetter, and two of Dillard, Coffey, Swindle, Julio, Defilice, Morlan would give us a lot of quality and depth. Another reason I would like the signing is that I believe this would make Peavy more open to coming to Milwaukee. But that is mostly me just dreaming.
  4. According to this article in the Boston Globe us and the A's are showing the most interest in Mark Mulder. I like it if we can sign him to an incentive laden deal. http://www.boston.com/spo..._improved_players/?page=5
  5. At the place I work we get a little over $5 an hour base pay, $.25 a mile, and then we get to keep our tips. So I will typically make at least $60 in just tips and gas money each 6 hour night shift that I work. That is not including the hourly wage.
  6. I currently work full time 8-5, Monday- Friday, and then I deliver pizzas two or three times a week at night. I've worked numerous pt jobs over the years, and delivering pizza is definitely my favorite. If you do decide to go this route, I would recommend working at a place that is not a chain.
  7. Would you have said that Melvin was passive after the he acquired Sabathia and Durham last season? I'm positive that Melvin hasn't been sitting on his hands, I'm sure he is doing everything he can to improve the Brewers. I would love to see them make a big move, but I don't want to see it done just for the sake of something happening.
  8. Lyon is a type B free agent, but I think he would be a decent closer option if signed at a reasonable rate.
  9. Would it have been that hard to put Gary Glover instead of GG in the title line?
  10. I'm not sure if you meant this answer for me, but I was saying it as a rhetorical question.
  11. I will guess Jaque Jones, since Melvin seems to shopping in the bargain bin.
  12. From everything I've read about Escobar, he is a very talented player, who is an unbelievable defensive shortstop w/ speed and is a good contact hitter? What makes you so sure that he is being overrated, and will never be an all-star shortstop? It also seems that the Brewers are very high on him, I think it would take a lot for the Brewers to trade him, and I'm pretty sure he is worth a lot to other teams also. I'm not a big fan of trading Escobar, I'd rather let him develop more in AAA this season, and then if he is ready deal w/ the situation in the next off-season.
  13. If we could get Griffey here as a 4th outfielder, playing a couple of times a week for a cheap contract would you? I would love it, and think that it could be a possiblity. In 07' he batted 277/.372/.496 w/ 30 hr's, and last year he fell of bit at .249/.353.424 w/ 18 hr's. I bet if we offered him a couple days a week to start and a chance to play on a playoff contender he might take it.
  14. You do realize Dice-K was 18-3 w/ a 2.90 ERA this past year right? Also, Hideki Okajima, and Takashi Saito have been very good.
  15. If was looking at Kei Igawa's stats w/ the Hanshin Tigers, and he was awesome in Japan. He was the strikeout leader 3 years, won their version of the Cy Young one year. I've heard that Ron Guidry messed w/ his mechanics a lot, and that is part of the reason he has struggled so badly. Might he be worth the risk? 16. It was already explained that the extra pick the Yankees got for not signing their first rounder from 08' is protected. So we would be getting a 2nd round pick if Teixiera signed w/ the Yankees.
  17. In the transaction forum it says that he was re-signed, I really don't understand the point of him doing this.
  18. I was just reading the article about the Brewers off-season written by Tom Haurdricourt, and I came across this comment that really bothered me: "Melvin noted that things might have been different if not for significant injuries suffered by 2001 first-round pick Mike Jones and 2004 first-rounder Mark Rogers, both drafted out of high school. Jones never will pitch for the Brewers and Rogers might not, either, after missing the last two seasons due to multiple shoulder surgeries." Why would they keep him in the organization if there is no chance that he would ever play for the Brewers? I understand that he doesn't have a good chance anymore, but this article wasn't an editorial, and I think it is very unprofessional to write something like that. ---------------- Edit... 19. Another guy who I would take a chance on is 39 year old Takashi Saito who has been dominant in his 3 years as Dodgers closer but is coming off an injury. I really like the idea of Ty Wiggington at 3rd.
  20. Chuck James might have been horrific in the major leagues last season but had a 2.92 ERA in 87 minor league innings while pitching w/ an injury. He had shoulder surgery, and apparantley was pitching w/ the injury the past 2 years while trying to avoid surgery. He is expected to be back around the all-star break, he could be a huge buy low candidate, kind of like how the Cards got Chris Carpenter. In 465 minor league innings he had a 2.24 ERA and a 1.02 whip. He also has had some major league success before last season.
  21. Actually that article is gone, and now it is replaced w/ this one, where it seems to be a little less of a guarantee. http://milwaukee.brewers....mp;fext=.jsp&c_id=mil
  22. Its probably been so quiet w/ Dunn because the Yankees, Red Sox or Mets are not interested in him.
  23. He is a hard throwing reliever that was involved in the Garza/Delmon Young trade a year ago. He was recently considered a top relief prospect w/ the Twins. I think he could stick w/ the big league club. Here is a link to his stats: http://minors.baseball-re...com/players.cgi?pid=25053
  24. Should this thread be in transaction rumors?
  25. I like Melky Cabrera, he had a down season last year, but had one good, and one decent season as the Yankees CF, and could potentially turn into a good player, I mean he will only be 24 this season. If nothing else it saves us 10 million that we can now spend on LH bats and/or pitching upgrades. I also think that there will be more to this deal, and hopefully we will be getting another pitcher in the deal, please let it be Ian Kennedy.
