  1. There probably is more revenue sharing coming but MLB hasn't put out any financial information at this time and probably never will. Right now the small market teams have agreed to this proposal as MLB has sent it over to the union. The same with the $100m minimum team salary proposal also this has been approved by the small market teams. Both have or are in the process of being rejected by the union. The information that has been leaked to the public is basically the same information that has been sent over to the players union. There is definitely going to be an increase in the cost for prearbitration and arbitration players how much of an increase is unknown but knowing the players union it is probably going to be more than what prearbitration players are paid now. This CBA is going to be messy especially for a team like the Brewers who are in the middle of competing and also in the middle of their younger players getting expensive. I don't believe the Brewers are going to be major players in FA this year until the CBA is figured out and they may not even be major players at all once the CBA is known due to the raises to the prearbitration and arbitration players. Without adding someone in FA the Brewers opening day payroll could be closer to $130m due to the changes in the CBA or it could go higher players like Suter and others would definitely be dropped as their value wouldn't be high enough to pay them the salary they would get in arbitration. The Brewers may not be able to play in FA at all over the next 3-5 years if what has been proposed actually goes through even with increased revenue sharing.
  2. NFT's are probably going to be needed for the metaverse. I know the sandbox is technically a metaverse but I see it more like AOL than the next internet of things. The metaverse is basically the next internet or so the theory goes. The metaverse will need things like NFT's to function properly I am just not sold on it being a NFT it maybe something else that hasn't come up yet or is just in development.
  3. I'd rather roll the dice on 10/150 or 10/200 for Wander after 70 G | 308 PAs than 14/340 for Tatis after 143 G | 629 PAs. Gotta be hard to turn down that kind of money, but If I were Franco I'd probably wait until the CBA gets sorted out before agreeing to anything. The CBA is probably the reason the Rays are doing this also. Pre arb and arbitration players are going to become more expensive. I think the days of paying a 1st year MLB $250k are now gone. Probably going to cost $1m or more. Then when arbitration hits you could see FA $'s for these players in their first year of arbitration. Current MLB proposal is to have players paid based on their WAR numbers which could be an average of their last 4 years or anything in-between. I think if you average Burnes WAR he would get something like $18m in his first year of arbitration. So the Rays offering this they could actually be saving money especially for those arbitration years. But this all depends on the next CBA and how younger players are going to be paid. This will also probably be a reason why some smaller market teams will shy away from FA until the new CBA is signed. For example the Brewers maybe in trouble financially if the new CBA raises the amount Burnes, Woodruff, Houser, Hader and others could get in arbitration. If their salaries effectively double don't expect the Brewers to sign anyone in FA beyond roster fillers.
  4. I am surprised teams haven't done the crowdfunding stuff yet. Fun fact the Statue of Liberty base was crowd funded by Joseph Pulitzer, well not all of the money for it. The total amount raised was something like ~$100k by ~160k people. Teams could get real creative with this especially for things like stadium improvements. Give $100 and get your name engraved in a plaque in the new section. Give $50 and have your name appear on the jumbotron or whatever at the game of your choosing. Lots of creative ways to raise money through crowdfunding that could actually replace some of the extra taxes or increased taxes. If the Packers did a crowdfunding today they could probably raise somewhere between $10-50m easily.
  5. Gabe Kapler wins NL Manager of the year. https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/32647405/san-francisco-giants-gabe-kapler-named-nl-manager-year-107-win-season
  6. Syndergaard to the Angels on a 1-year $21m contract. https://nypost.com/2021/11/16/noah-syndergaard-leaving-mets-for-angels-on-21-million-deal/
  7. Just sayin' but Rodgers looks like smokin Jay out there.
  8. He is probably just over matched. It is not like he is completely lost at the plate just the pitchers are better than what he has seen so far in his minor league career. Should be a good learning experience for him going into next season.
  9. Relievers are definitely hurt by fWAR. Hader's max fWAR in one season has been 2.6 while Burnes is 7.5. That is a huge difference and basically Hader is the best reliever in terms of fWAR. Hader would be paid less in arbitration because of this. Even if Hader pitched more innings which he did in 2018 he had the same fWAR that he had this year in less innings. I just don't see fWAR being a meaningful stat all alone for a reliever you will need to add more to be able to evaluate their worth to a team than just using fWAR. Plus the union is going to reject this proposition as they already did earlier because of the 29.5 age requirement to become a FA. If MLB is going to have an age requirement on FA it will have to be 2-3 years earlier. So something like 26.5 or 27.5 would probably be more acceptable to the union.
  10. Maybe it's not perfect, but it's certainly better than wins, saves, and RBIs like the current system uses. What is unknown about this is how they will determine the dollar amount. They would be using the fWAR so relievers would get screwed by this. But Burnes could possibly get $19m in his firs year of arbitration if this were to be used assuming they are going to use an average of the total fWAR $. Which would be about $14m more than what he would make in the current system. This is assuming they take the full fWAR from his first year until now. Yes the small market teams already agreed to this as this is the 2nd proposal from MLB to the union on how they are going to pay players going forward especially younger players. This is more than likely going to be rejected by the union as players wouldn't be able to hit free agency until they are 29.5 years old which could lock in younger players who may not do as well in the first few years they are in the majors and thus lower their value. There is also concerns of teams manipulating the WAR value. Also relievers are penalized severely in WAR compared to starting pitchers also pitchers who pitch more to contact versus striking players out are also hurt by fWAR. I think there will be some kind of compromise on this either using a different stat for relievers or a combination of different stats. Really they shouldn't be using one stat for everything ideally. Ideally you would want at least 3 or 5 different stats to find a balance. Either way younger players are going to become more expensive and I am wondering if the league has promised more revenue sharing for the smaller market teams.
  11. Love the stat or hate it WAR seems to be the new stat that arbitration will be based on. MLB Proposes determining arbitration salaries by using WAR
  12. Well playing with Giannis as your only real big man is going to cause some problems also. The Bucks don't really have a backup C as they are using Giannis and Portis as the backup C primarily. While this works during a game a long stretch of games where you don't have Lopez it is not going to work.
  13. They are more interested in improving SS and 1B than they are in improving the OF. The Yankees are going hard after Correa and Seager they will get one for sure and I think that will be their big major signing of the year if they have money left over sure they could go after Suzuki but they already have a roster crunch and playing time for OF and DH. I think OF and DH are the least of the Yankees worries and they will probably address the DH or 1B side through a trade(s).
  14. I would rather gamble on someone like Suzuki than gamble on Castellanos/Garcia/etc to continue to be effective throughout their contract. Suzuki will also cost less than the other options in FA. Suzuki is also younger than most of the players that come over from Japan. If he can put up an .800 OPS or more that is extremely valuable to a small market team to sign him. I don't see the Yankees or the Red Sox getting involved with Suzuki. Maybe you will have the Angels, Dodgers and Giants but beyond them I am not sure there is really a big market team that will be driving up his price.
  15. Yes he could be but I think as you pointed out carries a far higher risk than either Grandal or Moose did of not being effective. I would be happy with either a Conforto or Seiya Suzuki signing. I would prefer Suzuki but if our biggest pick up is Conforto I would be fine with that.
  16. I would think the A's would be interested if they were not looking to reduce payroll. I also wouldn't rule out the Giants or Dodgers as possibilities also. I think the Royals, Astros, Guardians and the Marlins could also be interested in Suzuki.
  17. If he was a free agent, I'd agree. Perfect fit. But it will come down to who offers the best package in return so I don't see how anybody can be called a favorite at this point. The Yankees need a 1B and he should cost about the same as any of the FA that are currently on the market at 1B and is better than them by a considerable amount offensively. It really depends on what the A's want in return for Olson. Do they want immediate help or do they want help in the future? The Yankees probably could even make a deal without including Dominguez their best prospect for Olson. They could center a deal around Volpe or could even trade their latest draft pick in Sweeney. Even something centered around Luis Medina and Oswaldo Cabrera would probably be a good start for a deal for Olson. There is a huge fit for the Yankees to go out and get someone like Olson and not have to break the bank in free agency. The Yankees need some more starting pitching behind Cole and there are a few veteran pitchers they could get this off season who could help and bolster their starting rotation in free agency who won't absolutely break the bank.
  18. Pretty sure that person would have let their kid get the balloons regardless of the infection they had (flu, cold, etc.).
  19. The Seahawks have shown interest and they have the cap room to claim him.
  20. I share these concerns with you. Fields seems to be progressing week to week and I think he's proving he can be a competent QB in the NFL. I find myself actually rooting for them to win some of these close games they are in - they aren't a threat to the Packers this year but if they are able to hang around .500, then maybe Nagy can point to Fields development as an excuse for them to give him another year. Would hate for them to get a Lafleur/Shanahan/McVay type of guy in there. Nagy has the same problem that PC has with the Badgers they refuse to make changes and when they do make changes during the game it is away from something that they have been running successfully. These changes normally pop up during critical parts of the game. Both coaches are extremely stubborn to move away from something that isn't working because it is the core of what makes their teams go. They also tend to run plays that don't take advantage of the talent that they have and instead put that talent in positions that just won't work for them.
  21. I think the Yankees are the favorites to land Olson right now.
  22. That is a mistake by Conforto, I don't see how he is going to get more than a 1 or 2-year deal after the season he had. Some of it was from COVID and a hamstring injury but I just don't see how he is going to get a multi year deal. The only thing I can think of is that he wants to get out of the Mets organization. I don't see him topping the QO and he is probably looking at a 1-year $10-15m contract which is far less than the QO. Some teams are going to shy away from him because of the draft pick compensation that is tied to him so he may even struggle to find the $10-15m prove it type of offer.
  23. Burnes, Scherzer and Wheeler named finalists for NL CY Young. https://www.mlb.com/news/bbwaa-awards-finalists-2021
  24. The Reds are supposedly looking to cut payroll. Castillo is also a hot name in the trade market he could be traded at some point this off season. If the Reds could trade Moustakas they would right now for just about anything if the other team is taking on all of his contract. The Reds won't be adding significantly to payroll this off season. Probably will only add small contracts on short-term deals. I wouldn't be surprised to see them trade Gray also.
