  1. That is true. He made a nice play there. I was also thinking of the play where they ran in for a TD and Clark looked like he was on skates going backwards. He wasn't horrible overall...just a stark comparison to everyone else on the DL/OLB that seemed to dominate the Bears OL and he was just "meh". To be honest, I've wondered how much of his reputation has really be earned or just inherited the last couple years. He'll have a game here and there, but mostly just "meh". But announcers will talk him up as if he is a regular pro-bowler.
  2. Week 1 results might not be indicative of the rest of the season, but you can never be too happy from pounding the Bears! 😂
  3. I love how Alexander and Douglas play from snap to whistle... not so much after though. They need to cool off on the post-play crap. Walker would make a great RB...just don't give him the ball at the goal line. Not sure why he dance down the line instead of plunging in. Would've been safer just pushing through the guy instead of dancing away from him. Jordan is Loving him some Jayden Reed; and me too. Wow is he giving me Cobb 2.0 vibes (with upgraded the speed). So comfortable catching punts; looks like he is going to be a major contributor this year (potential top WR??). just looks comfortable out there from day 1. So very Cobb like. Could someone please remind Kenny Clark that he is one of our better DL out there? Was pretty invisible against the Bears. Maybe the OL was uber focused on him and that led to everyone else getting the pressures, but he didn't look game ready. Musgrave looks awkward catching deep balls. Not just against the Bears, but in preseason too. Hopefully he can fix that soon. Love looked pretty jittery in the first half, but settled down nicely in the second. Looked like a whole new QB in the second. Also looked massively better than Fields. After thinking about Fields' performance (and previous ones), I think I've changed my opinion on him (a bit). I thought accuracy was his main issue, but he was pretty accurate yesterday (~65%). I think he is just slow to read and react to tight defenses. When players are wide open (like at Ohio St), they are easy reads. I can't think of any throw Fields threw (not made, but threw) that was contested. Even the interception, the WR had a nice gap, Walker just came from the other direction. On the positive side for the Packers, I don't see how he is going to overcome that. You can get better at reading defenses as you see more of them. But the reaction part of that isn't really going to get better...some QBs have it, some don't. Coaching - Really nice adjustments at halftime on both offense and defense.
  4. Wow way to start the season on a high note! 😝 Actually, I think the opposite maybe more likely... Bears runs through us... Bears have no D...
  5. Regarding going down 10: At 21-20, a TD and 2pt conversion would put them down 9. Is that what you were referring to? Otherwise, the options would be: 21-20: no score 24-20: Field goal 28-20: TD+xtra pt 27-20 for TD + failed 2pt/xtra pt kick. Or how did you mean they could be down 10? Regarding a safety+onside kick: I wonder what is more likely? Converting 4th&25 or an onsite kick? I think I'd take my chances with 4th&25. They almost made it the way it was...
  6. The tale of two young QBs trying to find their footing in the NFL. Love is older than Fields by 4 months. Love has one more year in the league, but Fields has 25 starts to Jordan's lone start. With Aaron Rodgers out of the way, will Love be able to pickup the Bear's lease?
  7. Statistically a team has a better chance of winning their division when they start 1-0 compared to 0-1.... 😉
  8. @Joseph Zarr, I seriously have not been spending enough time in the minor league forum. Really nice job on the write-up and holy cow what a lot of work in preparing it.
  9. A little Buck's love:
  10. Yesterday's win was the Brewers' 2000th win in the NL. https://www.brewcrewball.com/2023/9/5/23860826/big-5th-inning-helps-brewers-to-7-3-win-over-pirates
  11. Hopefully not these songs... But we are all asking this question:
  12. I was very close to putting this in my prediction.
  13. Here are my predictions: Record: 8-9 Will we make the playoffs? No. Third in the NFC north behind Lions (1st) and Vikings(2nd) Offensive MVP: Aaron Jones Offensive Most Improved Player: Doubs. Just edges out Watson. Offensive Rookie of the Year: Reed. Musgrave is tempting, but I see a lot of connection btw Love and Reed. Most Receiving Yards: Doubs Most Rushing Yards: Jones. I could also see Dillon getting it, while Jones has the most total yards on the team. Most TDs total (rushing or receiving): Watson Love's QB line: Rating, Yards, TDs, INTs: 90, 3500, 25, 15 Defensive MVP: Alexander. Gary would be my pick if he was 100% on day 1. Defensive Most Improved Player: Walker. Improvement started late last year. I think a jump is coming for the young man. Defensive Rookie of the Year: Van Ness Most Sacks: Smith. This is his “up” year in his up, down, up, down cycle. Gary slowed early also impacts the decision. Most INTs: Douglas. Was uncomfortable in the slot, but much more natural back on the edge. Carlson's FG%: 85%. Passable. Others? Zero 1000 yard receivers… but a few over 500 yards (Doub, Watson, Jones, Musgrave, Reed). Sean Rhyan gets meaningful offensive snaps At least one of our final starting safeties is not on our roster today (or on the roster as a safety). Our defense struggles against the run…again. But better than last year.
  14. What are your predictions for the Packers this year? Record: Will we make the playoffs? If yes, via WC or NFC North Champions? Offensive MVP: Offensive Most Improved Player: Offensive Rookie of the Year: Most Receiving Yards: Most Rushing Yards: Most TDs total (rushing or receiving): Love's QB line: Rating, Yards, TDs, INTs: Defensive MVP: Defensive Most Improved Player: Defensive Rookie of the Year: Most Sacks: Most INTs: Carlson's FG%: Others?
  15. I think FS1 has changed since I last tried it. I used to get regional (MN) sports only. Good to know you can get all the games again.
  16. Question on Mordecai's INTs - Were they the result of poor accuracy, misreading the defense, WR/QB not on the same page, or just good defensive play on a 50/50 ball?
  17. Unfortunately, I did not get to watch the game (still need to figure out a good way to watch them out of market). These "preseason" games are always a bit interesting. First live action for this team that has a lot of new faces playing together. It will take some time to build that trust and confidence to play as a team. It was also Mordecai's first game playing in front of the home fans too... However, despite our hopes of him being night and day better, most ratings I saw in the offseason only had him a few spots ahead of Mertz. I do think our WR play is a major part of our problems. When I saw Dike still as the #1 WR that did concern me that we didn't make much for upgrades (except our depth certainly being better). There are two more "preseason" games before Purdue to see the team (coaches included) figure out our identity as a team. What are we good at? Who are our playmakers? Where are the weak links?
  18. I lead a team of over 20 software engineers plus another team in a low cost country. Remote work is pretty important because not everyone we work with is local. So in 2020, it took us a bit to adjust, but we mainly had setup things to work remotely anyway, so it wasn't that big of a deal. We did notice that project teams worked great... but the team bonds across projects was weak. People simply didn't get to meet and work with those people. I just don't wan to see the "old school if I don't see you, you must not be working hard" thinking to return. Yes, there will always be people slacking off. That goes the same in the office too... But working from home has made people on my team happier. It gives them better home and work life balance. It gives them better flexibility to deal with kids, spouse, auto, whatever life throws at you issues. I'll have people log in late at night or on weekends...just because they had something pop in their heads. Yes, my company suddenly feels the need to heavy-hand it and push people back on the office... despite most teams working well this way. It does take a unique job to be fully remote (I do have a few employees that work this way) and it is even riskier to hire someone right away as fully remote. But having hybrid workers should be a "norm" for most office workers. Let us gain something good from 2020!
  19. I don't recall the year, but there was a time all of our OLBs failed to hold the edge... we were getting burnt by QBs and RBs alike. I seem to remember Cook getting outside over and over again... probably 2021? Wasn't just Gary, but Gary was clearly one of them. Either way... LVN is quite a bit in the exact same position as Gary was as a rookie. That was the main point.
  20. Fangraphs allows custom splits. And yes, the Brewers do look at them because they have a tendency to play the hot hand and matchup ball (aside from Huira, but that is another story). The point was the Weimer has been trending down for a while... even vs LHP. He was white hot early and looking poor now. And looking more lost at the plate as he goes (no metric...just an eyeball test). So no real point in saying we must play Wiemer vs LHP over Taylor... his 864 OPS vs Lefties is a bit of a paper tiger. They have been about neck-and-neck at the moment vs lefties.
  21. Well, the upside for those not wanting Donaldson ... he isn't at the MLB yet. So at least we have some time to see if he is healthy and can hit. Maybe there is lightning still in the bottle...
  22. Except those numbers don't represent his recent numbers... Since July 1st: 244/279/390/669 (43 PAs) Taylor isn't much better (just better power). But the point was that Weimer's 864 OPS was driven by his first half of the season. There isn't much offensively for Wiemer vs LHP or RHP.
  23. No, not the same level (hence my description as "decent"). But that doesn't mean he is going to Kotsay it up out there... The point was that the delta in defensive value doesn't make up for the delta in offensive value.
  24. Right, but now that he wasn't claimed, he is a FA to be signed without the big ($5M? for 1 month) pricetag.
