  2. I already want to puke whenever I hear the term "social distancing."
  3. I’m sorry, but China’s response to the outbreak has been lauded by the WHO as nothing short of incredible. China bought the rest of the world some time with their quarantine and sacrifice, and warned the rest of the world of the severity. Unfortunately that time has been completely wasted by the West and now here we are. It’s going to get really, really bad before it gets any better. I'm not criticizing how China handled the situation within their own borders, I just question all the data they've been feeding the world regarding numbers infected/numbers dead. There have been long running reports from credible news sources that have cast doubt over their numbers from the onset. See the following link for one example: https://www.nzherald.co.nz/world/news/article.cfm?c_id=2&objectid=12304547
  4. Just declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization. Really no reliable data yet to indicate how far reaching and how long the spread will be. Frankly, nothing that comes from the government of China is worth listening too. I think ground zero for reliable data is probably Italy, and it looks very bad there. If I were a MLB owner, I'd be seriously concerned that this could kill attendance for the first 1.5-2 months. Europe should have been out ahead of this, and looking at the John Hopkins map...almost the entire continent is shaded in red. I didn't see any precautions taken by the US government early on to make me think it will be any different here. https://www.arcgis.com/apps/opsdashboard/index.html#/bda7594740fd40299423467b48e9ecf6
  5. Moving Clark off the nose would be a terrible move. Look at how mediocre Raji was after they moved him off the nose. Keep Clark at this natural position and find a upgrade to play next to him.
  6. A bit late to this party, but I think this is a wonderful deal for Milwaukee...to the extent where I'm surprised the union didn't make a big effort to pull the plug on it. Sure, the last couple years will probably suck, and there is some concern over the defensive falloff last season, but I think he's a safe bet to stay a premier hitter over the next five years. Hopefully Attanasio will put resources around him. Yelich's soon to be 26 million per year goes on the books, Braun's roughly 19 million per season comes off the books...I sure hope Attanasio puts that 7 million difference back into the MLB roster.
  7. Morrison really doesn't have any positional flexibility. He played a total of 3 innings in left field in 2018. Those are the only MLB innings he's seen in the outfield in the last four years. The last time he saw significant action in the outfield was in 2010-2012. He had a UZR/150 worse than -10 in each of those seasons and over those three years combined he had an outfield DRS of -32. Saying he can play the outfield is like saying Braun has the positional flexibility to play 3B.
  8. How much money would Colorado be willing to pick up? According to Attanasio, the Brewers had an operating loss last season. Probably will be a long, long time until we see an annual 30 million dollar player on the roster.
  9. The Packer writer at The Athletic posted a full Packer's mock draft and didn't have them taking a WR or an ILB throughout the entire draft. Some of the reader's comments are pretty entertaining. I am pretty disappointed that so many possible targets at #30 elected to skip important elements of the combine. The ILB's, Queen and Murray, skipped the 20 yard shuttle and 3 cone. Chase Claypool (WR, Notre Dame) probably had the best height/speed combo, but he too skipped the 20 yard shuttle and 3 cone. Wide receivers Tee Higgins and KJ Hamler both skipped just about everything.
  10. I don't see a roster spot for Morrison unless Smoak gets hurt. A few spring training at-bats doesn't erase the pitiful .187/.275/.371/.646 slash line he's posted over the last two seasons. He had a monster year in 2017, and even with those numbers included, he's been a .226/.316/.427/.743 batter over the last five years. He can claim he's a borderline All-Star player when healthy, but the resume doesn't back that up. He posted an .868 OPS in 2017, his next highest OPS in the last eight years is .735. Not impressive at all for a guy who is primarily a 1B/DH. Note that Morrison posted a .369 OBP/1.009 OPS last year in 233 AAA plate appearances...and then got to the majors and posted a .263 OBP/.663 OPS in limited plate appearances (38). Really hard to believe that a likely 30-40 spring training at-bats will earn him a roster spot unless other player(s) are injured.
  11. 1. SS/2B-Brice Turang 2. LHP-Ethan Small 3. OF-Tristen Lutz 4. CF-Corey Ray 5. LHP-Aaron Ashby 6. C/DH-Mario Feliciano 7. RHP-Zack Brown 8. SS-Eduardo Garcia 9. LHP-Antoine Kelly 10. RHP-Drew Rasmussen 11. OF-Carlos Rodriguez 12. RHP-Trey Supak 13. RHP-Devin Williams 14. C-Payton Henry 15. OF-Luis Medina 16. CF-Joe Gray 17. C/LF-Nick Kahle 18. OF-Micah Bello 19. OF-Hedbert Perez 20. RHP-Alec Bettinger 21. 1B/LF-Thomas Dillard 22. RHP-Bobby Wahl 23. RHP-Max Lazar 24. RHP-Dylan File 25. RHP-Noah Zavolas
  12. Zack Baun I'm listing weight ranking because there is such a wide variance of size for players that work out as linebackers. Top weight this year is 280 and the lightest is 224. Weight = 238, 19th out of 44 40 time = 4.65, 13th out of 30 reps of 225 = 24, 3rd out of 27 vertical jump = 32.5, 19th out of 31 broad jump = 9'7", 27th out of 31 20 yard shuttle = 4.31, 10th out of 19 3 cone = 7.00, 5th out of 16 Not very good in the jumps but pretty solid everywhere else. Have to think scouts are pretty disappointed that so many linebackers skipped the 20 yard shuttle and 3 cone drills (including a couple of top ILB candidates in LSU's Patrick Queen and Oklahoma's Kenneth Murray).
  13. Brewers get: RHP-Ross Stripling (from Dodgers) RHP-Ty Buttery (from Angels) OF-Andy Pages (from Dodgers) Dodgers get: IF-Luis Rengifo (from Angels) OF-Tristen Lutz (from Brewers) Angels get: LHP-Eric Lauer (from Brewers) IF-Eduardo Garcia (from Brewers)
  14. Taylor's final numbers (and ranks among RB participants) 40 yard dash = 4.39, 1st out of 28 reps of 225 = 17, 16th out of 23 vertical = 36, 11th out of 28 broad jump = 10'3", 8th out of 27 20 yard shuttle = 4.24, 5th out of 15 3 cone = 7.01, 4th out of 11 I figured Taylor would go in the #40-#50 range pre-combine, but he probably has a pretty decent chance of being a top 20 pick after posting these numbers.
  15. For those who don't follow this stuff closely, Biadasz isn't participating in anything because he had shoulder surgery after the season.
  16. I'm not disagreeing with you guys about the 40-time. But maybe you should have a word with Gutekunst the next time you run into him, because the two drafts he's done so far makes it look like he is big on the 40-yard dash.
  17. That's the number I saw earlier but it looks like they are going to put the official number at 4.39. Also looks like non-spectacular but solid numbers in the vertical jump (36) and broad jump (10'3"). No numbers on the agility drills yet. Fumbling is an issue. Just can't find much else wrong with the guy. Really should be a first rounder IMO.
  18. NFL.com had Cephus as the #81 player in the draft prior to the combine, so it will be interesting to see where he ends up in their rankings. Total breakdown of where Cephus ranked among the other WRs at this combine. 40-time = 4.73, 45th out of 45 reps of 225 = 23, 1st out of 32 Vertical Jump = 38.5, 8th out of 46 Broad Jump = 10'4", 15th out of 43 20 yard shuttle = 4.33, 9th out of 25 3 cone = 7.2, 17th out of 26 So pretty impressive everywhere else. Top of the list in reps of 225 and also a standout in the vertical jump. I still get the feeling the 40-time limits him to fifth round tops, but we'll see what happens. I can't imagine he'll do anything other than running the 40 at the Pro Day. Note that D'Cota Dixon ran a 4.81 at last year's combine and then ran a 4.62 at Wisconsin's Pro Day.
  19. Not about how good he will be. It's about where he'll be drafted, and that 40-time does not bode well.
  20. Cephus bombed the 40-yard dash. 4.73 first attempt, 4.74 second attempt...official time will go down as 4.73. Hard to imagine Cephus going in the first four rounds after this. The first pick in round five of last year's draft got a 350k signing bonus. Then the fed takes 35% of that and the agent probably takes another 3%....even if he winds up in a state with no income tax it looks like his max earnings from a signing bonus would be 217k. 217k looks like absolute best case scenario for guaranteed money as fifth rounders are in no way locks to make the team. It's really a shame he left school early, which he really had no business doing if he knew he was a 4.7 guy. Better off staying in school and getting a degree considering the bonus money he's looking at. He definitely was a good enough college player where he should have had no problem getting a million dollar insurance policy to guard against injury. Would have loved to have had him back in Badger red in 2020.
  21. Cephus = 6-0 7/8, 202 8 3/4 hands (very small, Mike Sherman would not draft him!) led all WRs with 23 reps of 225 pounds Taylor = 5-10 1/4, 226 Biadasz = 6-3 5/8, 314 arm length = 32 1/4 Baun = 6-2 3/8, 238 238 is a good number for Baun. Lots of talk around Madison was that he was generally playing in the 225-230 range but that was all rumor. For those wondering, Chris Orr was not an invite. And in the absolute shocker category, Alex Hornibrook was also not invited.
  22. https://www.omaha.com/sports/college/huskers/teams/mens-basketball/wisconsin-transfer-kobe-king-commits-to-nebraska-basketball/article_2d9f3fa8-ea77-5b0a-9497-76f4c8929301.html#1 I don't know much of anything about basketball recruiting, but doesn't it seem odd that King didn't visit Nebraska and apparently will not visit Nebraska before enrolling? I would imagine that most schools have their 2020/2021 scholarships already tied up? Would that be correct? Would King have been better off waiting until season's end where more opportunities might open up? To me is just gives the impression that King is really only interested in minutes while staying in a major conference. The following headline just about says it all- https://www.omaha.com/sports/college/huskers/teams/mens-basketball/nebraska-basketball-notches-first--loss-season-as-huskers-fall/article_7a54d262-2de1-555f-9b95-7ba921bfd9f4.html
  23. Pretty good money for a guy coming off a 5.29 ERA season.
  24. People need to revisit the stat sheet when it comes to Keon Broxton. Last year he had a .517 OPS and over the last two seasons he's posted a .170 batting average and .253 OBP in over 300 major league plate appearances. He went to the plate 228 times last year and struck out 104 times. His OPS has dropped each of the last three years. Hamilton is no superstar but he can also play plus-plus centerfield defense and would likely get on base at a ~.290 clip which, IMO, makes him much better than Broxton. ZiPS is the only projection service to credit Broxton with enough at-bats to get a meaningful WAR projection for 2020. Broxton projected as a -0.3 WAR player, Hamilton projected as a +0.6 WAR player. Those numbers look pretty reasonable to me when viewing the recent history of each of these players. I'd be all over Hamilton if he could be signed to a minor league deal. And I'm not interested in him as a pinch-runner. I'm interested in him as a centerfield defense insurance policy in case Cain gets injured. I have no interest in seeing Yelich, Garcia, Gamel logging a serious number of innings in centerfield and making the outfield defense potentially as bad a the infield and catcher defense could be this season. I also have no interest in seeing Broxton logging large amounts of innings either because that means we will be subjected to watching his sub-Chris Davis bat continuously at the plate. Again, while Hamilton is a black hole offensively, he will get on base at a better clip than Broxton and is a plus-plus centerfielder.
  25. WR coach Ted Gilmore leaves the Badgers to become the tight end coach at Michigan State. Pretty significant lose for the Badgers IMO. Not sure how I feel about the timing of this either. On one had I like it because it happened in the short window where it won't impact last year's recruiting and it's so early where the impact on next year's class should be minimal. On the other hand, it's so late in the process that there probably aren't that many good options to fill that spot. At first look, there doesn't appear to be a younger "analyst" type on the staff that appears to be a natural fit to step into the role. Chryst will likely have to poach someone off of another school's staff.
