  1. Their top 4 prospects plus Samadjia. Done.
  2. Fiers getting $6 million just confirms that the league is filthy rich.
  3. Agreed. Though I'm not sure where this speculation is coming from that Scioscia can't or doesn't want Ohtani to play the field and pitch. Is there any sort of support/sources for this, or is it purely a "well he's an older manager therefore by default he's conventional..."? https://www.nytimes.com/2017/12/08/sports/ohtani-angels.html Here's an article about Ohtani. This paragraph is towards the bottom: "Any talk of Ohtani playing the outfield or truly playing every day is probably just talk. He has appeared in the outfield a total of eight times in the last four seasons, and all eight appearances were in 2014. His typical workweek in Japan consisted of starting a game as a pitcher, being a D.H. for the next few days, then taking two days off before his next start. To think that he could handle more frequent work, and the demands of playing a position in the field, after not doing so against lesser competition in Japan, is a stretch." Thanks for the share. Now less impressed over the hype of this guy then. Thought he was the next Steve Nebraska.
  4. How do you "cut and run" on this though? The way I see this thing is the only to use Bitcoin is to spend it. Am I wrong on that?
  5. No way does Ohtani sign with the Angels if their intent is to only pitch him. He wanted to play the field and pitch. That has to be a huge part of this agreement whether Scocia likes it or not.
  6. Calhoun is a GG RF, so I think Ohtani will be relagated to the DH role with a couple of spot starts in the outfield (unless they trade Calhoun). Looks like old Albert will be limping out to play 1B as of right now. Upton and Calhoun can occasionally DH as well. Just because a guy is a good defender doesn't mean he can't DH. Another reason that having a DH in one league and not in the other is flat out stupid.
  7. An outfield of Upton - Trout - Ohtani sounds pretty good if this guy is the real deal.
  8. Doubled in over a month. Insane. Bitcoin is an alternate global currency. Not sure how they evaluate the "value" of a coin, but seems like its value is based on stock-market like speculation (probably most similar to gold/precious metals). Right now it's value is being run up by pure speculation, like the real-estate flipping boom of 2005-2007 on steroids. Bitcoin uses blockchain to determine ownership, which is actually the interesting part of it. Blockchain is like a transparent, permanent ledger that cannot be changed. When all parties sign off on a transaction it gets entered into the "blockchain" and no one can delete it. Blockchain has the ability to drastically cut transaction costs/time. Think of buying a house - all of the money you spend on title insurance is for manual research of title history to make sure that nobody has a lien/claim on the title. If there were an open, transparent, permanent ledger that shows all historical transactions involving the title... no, or at least very minimal, title insurance costs and shorter closing time. Thanks! Okay, so I buy some. Can I sell it and make actual money? I have heard that once you have it, you then need to buy things with the Bitcoin and can only purchase certain products that recognize that currency.
  9. Can anyone explain what the heck Bitcoin is to me in simple terms? I just don't get it.
  10. We get it, Briggs. You love Gennett and hate Villar. Move on buddy, move on. Villar will get an opportunity (as he should on a rebuilding ballclub) to win the job at second base. Too much talent there to not give him that opportunity and we'll see if he can do it. If he doesn't, they'll make an adjustment as they did a year ago. This really isn't that big of a deal.
  11. A move to show Stanton they are serious about tearing it all down?
  12. Weeks ago. What is the hold up then? You'd think if teams really wanted these guys they'd be flying off the shelves especially Maitan.
  13. We already traded for one in Hader and there are there might be some in the pipeline we just don't know about yet. Be patient.
  14. When can those Braves players begin to be signed?
  15. http://www.davidmcelroy.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/Chicken-Little-on-CNN.jpg
  16. Id rather do this than throw money at Arietta or Lynn. I agree with you there but that's an apples to oranges comparison too. I mean we are talking about giving a guy $40 million that hasn't accomplished much, while at least Lynn and Arrieta have been very good pitchers in the majors. Not advocating the signings at all though.
  17. Well either the Cubs will be right with taking this shot or wrong. Either way, I'm glad we didn't pony up $40 million to find out.
  18. Trading for a leadoff hitter that slashes .286/.324/.437/.760 No thank you. I'll give Villar another chance then who is younger and has shown flashes of being a very good player.
  19. No way in hell should the Packers be running the read option with Rodgers. His health is far to important to risk injury beyond his scrambling when the pocket breaks down. Hundley is a lot younger, a vastly inferior passer, and nowhere near as valuable, so the risk is worth making him a runner multiple times a game compared to if Aaron is in the game. Once a QB becomes a runner, he loses all of his protections and as much as you could say, well Rodgers would just need to be smart, the athletes on an NFL defense are all really big and fast. It would only take one big hit from a guy Aaron didn't see coming to ruin a Packers season, especially given he has to carry the bad defenses Ted puts together every year for the team to have a chance at the playoffs. Not talking about running it 10-15 times a game but it for sure should be in there once or twice. 99% of the time there is no defender there for 10 yards. Plenty of times on 3rd and 2 where if Rodgers pulls it and runs, he has an easy first down.
  20. I won't laugh. I still think Wily finds a role in someone bullpen.
  21. Is that a good thing? Don't get me wrong. I'm pulling for a guy like Suter because he's just a fireball of energy and spirit but Doug Davis was just a meh pitcher. He had a nice long career but looking through his numbers it's a shock he lasted so long. Must be that left-handed thing again. It would be a great thing. Considering how little they have invested in him, that would be a huge win. Doug Davis is a terrific #5 starter for a team that lost an ace to injury and has to be careful about free agency. Another small but noteworthy factor is Suter's glove and bat. That adds up over the course of a season, and the Brewers should be able to have enough long relievers to limit Suter to ~5 IP per start. Eh, I just can't wrap my head around why we would want Suter to pan out to be a mid 4's ERA guy with a 1.5 WHIP, walking over 4 batters. There were a couple outlier seasons in there for Davis but he really wasn't good. We might as well resign Wily Peralta if that were the case. Career #'s for Peralta & Davis are strikingly similar. One just happens to throw with the "good" hand. ERA: Peralta- 4.48 / Davis- 4.44 FIP: Peralta- 4.42 / Davis- 4.41 WHIP: Peralta- 1.449 / Davis- 1.513 SO9: Peralta- 6.5 / Davis- 6.7 BB9: Peralta- 3.3 / Davis- 4.1 H9: Peralta- 9.8 / Davis- 9.5
  22. Maybe he can hit with RISP... sign him.
  23. I watched The Big Sick last night. It was very good. Not sure it's must-see but its a good one to see.
  24. I think the adjustment was made last week to put in more running (zone read) plays for him to get positive yardage. To be honest, this play should even be in there for Rodgers more often. Yes, you run the risk of him getting clobbered but that's where his intelligence just needs to be up there and get down whenever anyone is near him. You can get big chunk yardage plays with this play alone.
