  1. you wouldn't believe how many people across America (non-Harley and Harley riders alike) don't realize that Harley-Davidson is a Milwaukee institution. The seating idea is okay. It brings more money to the team and I'm always for that. The "first ball" thing is lame, though.
  2. the Cards-DBack game is quite entertaining. Eight homers so far, Drew hits for the cycle, 2 relievers have been ejected, and the Cards have blown a nice lead. And it's only the 7th inning. Brewer game was disappointing (c'mon, who couldn't see it coming when they begin the 8th inning with the announcers commenting how the relievers had shut down the Mets for 2 innings) but it may end up being a wash of a day. Kinda stinks that we had a chance to win the first game of every month this season and couldn't do it.
  3. no, no, no, Al . . . only journeyman middle relievers can wake sleeping giants. AJAY does not fit that description, despite what others may say about him. Oh, and 11-1 all year against them, too. Nice.
  4. I think it would stinking awesome if CC comes out and hurls a no-no in his next start against San Diego. Then we'll REALLY have something to talk about--the possibility of matching the Johnny VanderMeer record.
  5. yeah, I can't wait to hear the totally unbridled enthusiasm from Sutton when I watch them now. He's seriously going to wet his pants on the air someday. Nice trade for the D-Backs, though.
  6. the thing is the official scorer is pretty much in a lose-lose situation. He can: (a) change the ruling himself, which anyone and everyone knows, he won't do just to save face. (b) watch the appeal process go through and be shamed (a bit) if it gets reversed © watch the appeal process and, when questioned, he stands firm in his decision. The appeal gets denied but the guy is (potentially) not asked to return as an MLB official scorer next season.
  7. the "aging" Carlos Delgado has 30 HR and an .850 OPS. Still, it is a surprise . . . . .
  8. did he stare at it? Cards won't like it much pitchleague says, "who cares?"
  9. Nine and one this year Hard to believe our record Versus Pittsburgh, WOW!
  10. I agree, cubfan. It's not a big deal at all to me. We have had the upside on the Cubs at Miller Park at times, too (maybe even last year?). What goes around, comes around. I haven't complained once about it. Heck, we're 4-2 in Chicago (so far). What's to complain?
  11. The Cubs are one charmed team. That is all.
  12. That's okay, hawing.I didn't mean to do it Until Tomorrow.
  13. my wife's lawn-mower engine snoring got me to get some of those foam earplugs. She used to never snore but would grind her teeth. Once she got fitted for a mouthguard, the snoring came about and kept me up for hours. Usually I would end up on the couch in the living room to get a few hours of sleep and very groggy and ticked in the morning. The earplugs have definitely done the trick. I hardly ever hear her anymore (when I even need to wear them--the snoring comes and goes. I usually just have to yell at her in her sleep and she shuts up.) However, every now and then she has a REAL bad snoring night and I can hear her through the earplugs and I still have to sleep on the couch. But I'm more prepared for it now. She never believes me how loud she is at times. I've threatened to put the video camera up in the bedroom and hit record some night but I'm kind of afraid what it might reveal about myself, too.
  14. If we lose tonight I won't be very happy. So, don't you lose, Crew!
  15. not always, of course. You occasionally get a Manager of the Year to be the skipper of a surprise ballclub that stayed in the hunt to the very end of the season but came up short (Joe Girardi, Marlins), or come in mid-season (Jack McKeon, Marlins). Yes, it's usually the manager from the best team in the league, but not always. I would go: Manuel (Jerry or Charlie, depending on who wins the east); Pinella; Yost; NL West winner (Torre or Melvin)
  16. I'm actually rooting for the Brewers to tank the rest of the season. If they have success and make the playoffs and are out in the mainstream, I feel for all those rap artists and other cool people who will have to get rid of their "M" with a barley stalk hats and get something else that is different and un-mainstream.
  17. already being discussed in the off-topic forum. Go ahead and copy your comments in that thread
  18. they had video of the kid up on Sportscenter this morning. He wasn't wild but he wasn't blazingly fast, either. I can understand that some of the players might be a bit intimidated by his "heat" but I didn't think it was all that bad. I would assume many parents complained that their kid might get plunked by this kid and they didn't want their kid to get hurt. Honestly, I thought he was fine. The opposing coach should have played and had the team work on bunts or something. The way 9-year old kids play defense at least half of the bunts they got down would have been hits anyways.
  19. this is way off target but I just noticed that Rickey's picture is him with a Boston hat on. I've seen that avatar for how long now? I always thought it was a Met's hat he had on. Shows you that I wasn't really paying that close of attention.
  20. I never understood the people that join a league and then pretty much quit because they're team isn't doing well. That's why the league that I play in here offers prizes for the non-playoff teams, too. Not to mention that it pretty much makes you, as a whole, look like a quitter. Or a 6-year old. Same thing with online video games. You're getting spanked in some online Madden? Suck it up, don't pull the cord and claim some "connection problem".
  21. I can't believe that I have to disagree with Brian. Hustling doesn't make you a dork. Why would you even say that? That doesn't make any sense. I've never really been "mad" at Brian or this site, but that comment really bugs me. edit: It's almost like this is straight from "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" and Brian is King Arthur and I (and other people who "hustle" in sports) are the peons slopping around in the mud. "What I object to is you automatically treating me like an inferior. . . . "
  22. I kind of find it funny that we used to post images just to count down to a .500 season!
  23. The D-Backs had a ton of guys that had career years in 2001, too. They rode it to the title. It could very well be the Cubs' year. I'd like to "bite my tongue" when I say that but it appears to be on the true side of things. That said, the Brewers just need to keep doing their thing, as the Cardinals are, obviously, not going away any time soon. The brief 2-game set next week is huge for either team if they can sweep. A split pretty much eliminates two games off the magic number and that's it.
  24. Didn't Prince lose to Hanley Ramirez? Yeah, Uggla still finished higher than Prince (3rd place to Prince's 7th, I believe), but Ramirez won. Maybe you just meant that he finished ahead of Prince in the voting. If so, disregard. I don't like many players, but most have been listed here. Derek Jeter is a biggie for me. Horrible defender but every analyst seems to think he's God's gift to shortstop defense. Most of the current Cubs would make this list. Funny thing is I like most all of the '84 Cubs team.
