  1. I don't know about anybody else, but as I'm watching that New Mexico St.-San Diego St. game all I can think of is Doug Gottlieb (the color commentator.) I couldn't decide if he sounded more like Craig Sager on helium or Quagmire from Family Guy. I seriously was waiting for a, "Diggity, Diggity!" to come out of his mouth sometimes.
  2. I didn't know Gus Johnson was back with CBS. Ian Eagle is okay. I really like him for football. He's grown on me over the years.
  3. I signed up. I'm a sucker for these.
  4. Extra Innings is $200/season, while MLB.TV is on $130/season. $70 savings is $70 savings in my book. But at least I can count the MLB.TV this season as a "free preview" to see if it will work for the way I want it next season.
  5. Why would you give up on Extra Innings next season if they provide you with MLB.tv as well? Isn't that like getting a 2 for 1 if you are a Directv customer and have access to MLB.tv on your laptop/tablet/phone? To save some money. That's what it all comes down to.
  6. just paid my bill on Directv.com and saw that they are offering free MLB.TV to all Extra Innings subscribers. So, I guess I'll re-up with Extra Innings for one more year and see how well the MLB.TV works at my house. If it's fine and serviceable and great and all that, I'll cancel Extra Innings next season and just buy the MLB.TV package. Just a heads up for anybody else that may be on the fence like I was.
  7. Gotta say, I'm rather disappointed with the play in the first half. Not that the badgers have played terribly, but that state has just been stupidly on fire.
  8. Resurrecting this old thread (sorry) because I finally saw the movie last night. I saw you're scene in the locker room. I did not see the epilogue scene. Perhaps, because this was a recording off a HBO Free Preview or something. Anyway, nice job. The movie kind of stunk, though. I was expecting a lot more humor and I sat on the couch pretty emotionless the whole way through.
  9. my guess is they're pitching him multiple innings sometimes just to get more of a look on the guy. Since they have to keep him on the 25-man roster, that's a pretty big decision so they want to really make sure the guy has the stuff, the gumption, etc. to handle the big leagues at age 21. I don't blame them. Regardless, he looks good so far. But we're only 1 week into ST games. We'll see how he looks 2 weeks from now.
  10. knowing our luck, Wisconsin will somehow get that #1 seed in the NCAAs and make history by becoming the first top seed to ever lose to a #16 seed, mostly due to lack of stopping that dribble penetration to the hoop.
  11. And right on cue, Bucky blows it big time.
  12. Very interesting read! Thanks for writing and sharing all of this. I remember a lot of it from back then but getting quotes from the parties involved was very cool. Sure hope you can get a response from Prince someday!
  13. I had a co-worker go 20-for-24 on her Oscar pool entry. That's amazing. I hit 15 correct and thought I was doing really well.
  14. yeah, I saw them. Pretty funny to see the replays, actually, when Morse got robbed the 2nd time.
  15. I'll put out a .303/.356/.511 line, including 31 HR and 111 RBI. Plus 13 SB. And one trip on the DL.
  16. So I've got the option to get MLB.tv on my LG blu-ray player. I currently subscribe to the Directv Extra Innings package. Can anybody give me the recommendation to switch over to the MLB.tv package, besides it being cheaper? I've got the blu-ray hard-wired to the network and can use wireless as a backup, so how's the quality? How much behind real-time is the broadcasts on MLB.tv? How many buffering issues do you encounter per game? Do you get pre- and post-game stuff or is it strictly JUST the game? How do commercials work? Is it the same 4 commercials for mlb.com or whatever EVERY commercial break? Just really trying this year to determine if I should save $100 or will I get aggravated if it's just not what I expect it to be.
  17. kind of depressing that our own coaches didn't realize that he was tipping his pitches.
  18. Got a good laugh from this NSFW story: http://www.ryot.org/these-haribo-sugarless-gummy-bears-will-make-you-st-your-pants-literally/438505 (man, I used to know how to shorten these links.)
  19. . . . and there's my cue. Here is my yearly copy/paste of why guys like these get votes. And how, one time, it backfired. "Every year, a player is bound to get what is called a "courtesy vote" for the Hall of Fame. This courtesy vote is pretty much an "agreement" by a writer or broadcaster who got to be pretty good friends with a player over the years. When the player then retired, the two of them, knowing full well that the player was not Hall of Fame material but only Hall of Very Good Material, came to an agreement that the writer/broadcaster friend of his would cast a vote for the player so he'd be able to tell his grandchildren that yes, he was given a vote for the Baseball Hall of Fame. It happens all time. In fact, I could probably come to a pretty good guess of who voted for Luis Gonzalez, for example. Luckily, the voters in these cases do their homework now so they don't have a repeat of the Wes Ferrell induction of 1984. It was through the veteran's committee vote, but it still worked out in exactly the same way. Here's the story in case you don't know it: "Rick Ferrell was a pretty good catcher form 1929 through 1947, a pretty good farm system director and general manager for Detroit, and, by all accounts, a pretty good guy. Rick played eighteen years (admittedly in eight of these he didn't catch 100 games in a season). He hit .281 lifetime, with twenty-eight career homers. His brother Wes had hit .280 lifetime, with twenty-eight homer. Of course, Wes was a pitcher. While he was still eligible in the writers' balloting, Rick got one vote in 1956, another in 1958, and a third in 1960. For years, reporters covering the Committee on Veterans would tell tales of how its memeber, old sportswriters, players, and executives, would cast 'courtesy votes' for old buddies, knowing full well that these guys would never actually get elected. It was a nice, folksy touch. You know: Hey, Smiley, you didn't get in, but look, I voted for you, old pal, old sport. Everybody was happy but nobody got hurt. Then in 1984, it happened. Apparently everyone case a courtesy vote for Rick Ferrell. Bingo--he's a Hall of Famer." --from The Big Show. Olbermann and Patrick, 1997.
  20. I look at mine everyday, as we have a few hanging in our living room. Now, the whole album? And the video? No, not really.
  21. maybe it's the name Trayvon, since Hughes drove me monkey-crazy in the day for the exact same reasons.
  22. 1. Win games. 2. Win more games. 3. Win even more games. 4. Playing winning baseball. 5. Make sure losing doesn't happen as often as winning.
  23. "Christmas Vacation" is by far #1. I can quote the movie. The entire movie. Yes, I'm a dork. "A Christmas Story" grows on me every year. I still remember my aunt and other family members (read as: baby boomers) taking all us kids to see it in the theater back in '83 (or whenever it came out.) We enjoyed it but I think we mostly enjoyed the food. The adults enjoyed it for their own nostalgia. Now I make sure I watch it at least once during the 24-hour marathon on TBS. The wife loves the Rankin-Bass version of "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer." About 10 years ago, some toy company came out with tons of Rudolph toys and playsets. She bought them all (or I bought some as gifts.) I still remember the year she was given the Santa's Castle playset and she got all the toys out and played along with the show when it aired on CBS. And she did it with the both her folks and my folks in the room. She didn't care. Gosh, I love her! Back when I was a teenager, there was a special called "A Wish For Wings." It was with all the characters from Bloom County/Outland like Opus the Penguin and Bill the Cat. It was hilarious back then. But I saw it again a couple of years ago and I didn't find it funny at all. Interesting how our tastes change over the years. And just a few years ago, a new special called "Yes, Virginia" came out. I found it really heartwarming. Of course, it helped that my elementary school chorus performed it for our concert the same year that the show came out and it was just beautiful. I told the students to not be surprised to see me crying while I was directing them. Sure enough, it happened just about every time.
  24. Devin Harris. I instantly thought of him, as well. But I wasn't sure if he did leave early or not. I was pretty sure he did, though.
  25. Whoa! I was just coming here to post this, too. Are the Badgers really a top-5 in the country team or is just because they're 10-0? They certainly don't seem like a complete ballclub that is extraordinary or anything when I watch them. So, I am kind of floored by a jump of 4 spots from last week.
