2013 Draft Pick Discussion, Rounds 1-5
brewcrewdue80 replied to battlekow's topic in MLB Draft & International Signings
In ESPN's chat word is that Manaea having dropped would bring the strong possibility of returning to school. No guess at all then Crew...At least if you could pick at 17 for the Brewers who would you have picked with what was then left available? -

Perfect trading partner - Dodgers?
brewcrewdue80 replied to LouisEly's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
JBriggs: Ramirez/Weeks while pricey. When considering what is out there/ likely made available for trade before the deadline. They are among the best options. Read MLBTR and they list 2b trade options being Weeks and Darwin Barney. And that was it. ARam, Mark Derosa, Juan Uribe as the 3b options. The teams you can assume would be interested in Weeks/ARam, Dodgers for ARam and Baltimore/Washington for Weeks I don't think are going to be all that hung up on the salary part. Hart certainly doesn't have a fat contract when you're only required to pay as a rental. I just gotta see him on the field playing for a couple weeks before I think any team would open talks on him. Who knows when that is? As to perfect trading partners. I truly see the Dodgers shifting their focus to ARam manning 3b with HanRam at SS. Why? It made sense earlier. After Yasiel Puig's ferocious start for a big league career, I think it's the life they needed to push for Playoffs. I don't know what they are going to do with Ethier, but he's about to find a prolonged seat on the bench with Puig,Kemp,Crawford roaming the OF. Guess he better learn how to play 2b huh? -
Fire sale on the way?
brewcrewdue80 replied to narwhalattack's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
Here's a question that would need some solving. All the suggested Pitching acquiring. Every Upper Level AAA guy we get. What happens to all the Upper AAA guys we have there now? Or put, what happens to the ML guys our upper AAA guys are going to need to take over. All the pitching coming in. Do we set guys back down to AA? This would fall in regard to these pitchers: Estrada, Fiers, Narveson, Rogers, Burgos, Thornburg, Hellweg, and progression forward: Nelson, Jungmann, Pena? Am I forgetting anyone? I can only assume Peralta will remain with the team as a Starter. So that's 10 pitchers I named with 9 Starting Pitcher spots left to fill between AAA and Majors. Then we suggest getting a guy like Lee who's the only one I feel confident in seeing traded for. Everyone else is speculation. But let's add 2-4 more SPs in our upcoming hauls. Where do these guys fit on the team? I guess what I'm looking at is the team needs to move a few of these AAA guys along in their deals to make room for who they bring in no? Can we expect say clubs to work on filling up AAA staffs to trade for Burgos/Fiers/Rogers? To cover their Callups without progressing maybe non-ready AA pitchers? After today's game, I'm wondering if Thornburg is cast as a long reliever from here on out. It's with this log jam of AAA pitchers that I have to believe Estrada will be traded away. Along with Gallardo. Probably keeping Lohse. Have to have some vet right? I just pose the question since it requires an answer. Pulling in 2-4 SPs that more than likely grade in to AA-Majors when moved to our organization. Where is the room for them unless guys like Hellweg are committed to the Staff to create the space needed. -
I'd fall over on that trade of Miller/Tavares, and Craig. I don't think the trades work that way too often. Craig/Miller have already proven quite the ability and are helping STl win today. Tavares will help them win too likely before the season is over. Holiday/Beltran both can't go the season without injury right? Right? Again, this is all hypothetical and just fun to throw names out there. I'm thinking in lines of the Upton deal. A Major League ballplayer plus a player with brief ML exposure. and then a bunch of highly regarded prospects. The problem is that ML ballplayer isn't a long term player so he's a vet. Miller/Craig are all 6year control guys. Tavares would be 7....anyway. just commenting. I think Braun cannot be traded away anymore. At least not til all this biogenesis smoke clears, and Braun isn't sitting a strike away from banning.

General thoughts on the franchise.
brewcrewdue80 replied to logan82's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
Ah yes. But the trade scenario I'm proposing is what it should have taken to trade away Lawrie. Not settle for Marcum. If he proposed that deal and was shot down, and he proposed other deals and was shot down. Then he should have just known to stand pat. Just because he thinks he has a Propect other teams want, doesn't mean he has to trade him away. That's all I'm implying. He didn't seek the kind of value in return for Lawrie he should have sought. He settled it appears to me on what he could get just to trade Lawrie in the timeframe he wanted to trade him. He should have waited it out, Let Lawrie's appeal grow as the closer he appeared to be ready for the Majors..and it would have been at that point he likely would have used Lawrie instead over the struggling McGehee. And who knows then what happens? The point is, if Marcum is all he could get for Lawrie, he should of turned the other way and said to himself the organization is better off with Lawrie than what Marcum provides. Some day a club will realize what Lawrie possesses in talent and I'll get that kind of talent in return for him. Or, I'll just use it. -
Braun, Biogenesis and the Whole Crazy Thing
brewcrewdue80 replied to splitterpfj's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
Thinking outside of being a Homer and wanting to believe he's innocent and that MLB is after Braun for winning that appeal. In the Biogenesis outcome. Who stands to gain the most from it? I'll answer that for you and now you can begin to read in to what this is really about. The NYYankees. and the Accompanying Ban that goes with ARod's guilt in this. Money. One can just fathom a guess, but I'm going to estimate a quarter of Billion dollars the Yankees save by getting ARod Banned before the end of the season. What more motive does the biggest money maker in the Sport need to have to push MLB to pursue to no end. I'd bet behind the scenes they are paying for it too since a few million or tens is nothing compared to the Couple Hundred saved by losing ARod. Why 250million? Well 130million or more in ARod's contract alone. Then add to it the whole Luxury Tax threshold that 25mil coming off the books just may be what they need to do it. It certainly Helps. That restarts the tax rate when they go over again not at the peak rate they are looking at come 2014. This is about ARod and Braun is just a piece caught up in it. -
Fire sale on the way?
brewcrewdue80 replied to narwhalattack's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
The point in trading for ARam is that a team like the Dodgers gets a .280s+ hitter with Power to take place of sub .200s hitters they have on their team now. You build and buy a team to win now and Have a huge Lineup hole that ARam fills completely in every way. You worry about ARam missing games? HanRam slides over at 3b again while that SS/2b with sub .200 hitting plays that game or two ARam sits. And take a little faith the FO will learn to avoid signings like Lohse's. Though, if he's traded for any kind of top 150 prospect, I'll just label it as a Successful 2013 Draft pick. -
Estrada to DL....Thornburg promoted to start
brewcrewdue80 replied to markedman5's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
Good. I'm glad Thornburg is called up. He has experience from last season. He's on the 40man. Let the others continue maturing. This is just what teams out of the Playoff picture do. It's lousy Estrada has to go on the DL. But, maybe some rest and time away helps him perform when he returns, more so than missing just 1 start and going out there. Maybe Marcum's Hamstring injury is in the back of the FO head and they just jumped to sit him. You may be getting the begginning looks of Thornburg as spot starter/long reliever while a RP is being worked over in trade on our current roster. -
Brewers acquire 3B Juan Francisco from Atlanta Braves
brewcrewdue80 replied to Invader3K's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
I think what's meant is that we can sit him the remainder of the season or play him to stay under 600PAs. Either way he still has his option kick in with 600PAs next season. If we played him enough games to go over 600PAs this year then he won't need 600PAs for it to kick in. With Gennett now up, the team can at least get him on a pace for say 550PAs with full-time games played if traded around the deadline. That team then has full control to Play him this season, and has control to keep him under 600PAs next season. I think the more games Weeks sees before being traded and keeps him on a 600+ pace PA if seeing Full-time 2b duties to the team he's traded to, makes his value less in trade. Since you're giving away a player who they can't use full-time 1.5seasons without having the Option picked up. I think with Bianchi, the club would have had a hard time sitting Weeks enough games whereas, with Gennett you can at least say you're playing Platoon pitching matchups. Weeks vs. Leftys, Gennett vs. say tough Rightys on Weeks. Weeks sits right on the 600PA pace for this season currently. Keep in mind that's with 85% games started. Sitting him twice a week in pitching matchups would be roughly down to 70% games started. We're 50 games away from Trade Deadline so then you figure that's 7-8 extra games of PAs not accrued over current pace or about 32-35PAs. That would put him on a 565-70 PA pace. So then you're looking at the team who acquires him being able to play him 90% or more of the games rest of season and he'll creep close to 600PA but not pass it. The team trading for him Washington/Baltimore current fits would have full control on how Weeks accumulates his PAs next season. -
Interesting stat fact from last night for a team in the cellar: Betancourt Completes Big Comeback By Brewers From Elias: Yuniesky Betancourt's 10th-inning walkoff single ended his streak of 23 consecutive hitless at-bats in Late-Inning Pressure Situations (seventh inning or later with score tied or team at bat trailing by up to three runs; or by four runs if there are two-or-more runners on base). Entering the day, that had been the longest current drought for any major-league player. The Brewers defeated the Athletics on Tuesday, 4-3 in 10 innings, after they were down 3-0 in the eighth inning. The Brewers have now won two games this season in which they were trailing by at least three runs in the eighth inning or later and hadn't scored to that point; they also did that on April 14 against St. Louis. The only other season in which the Brewers had two wins like that was 1974. about 6 hours ago | Elias Sports Bureau

Braun, Biogenesis and the Whole Crazy Thing
brewcrewdue80 replied to splitterpfj's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
Wow ESPN is a Joke! This on the Brewers Team Page: MLB - Ryan Braun in Last 2 Seasons Ryan Braun was second in the NL MVP voting last season and his numbers reflected that finish. Braun hit a career-high 41 home runs in 2012, which led the National League, and his OPS of .987 also led the NL. This season Braun's numbers are down across the board. about 3 hours ago | ESPN Stats and Information Great huh? Let the people who are convinced Braun is a cheater read this and say...Ha! Ha! See his numbers blow without PEDs. Who cares Braun had what? a .340 avg with 9HRs around mid May? That he's complained about his thumb affecting his hitting? Way to spin a Stat on a guy immediately following a PED article to justify their agenda that Braun is guilty. -
Braun, Biogenesis and the Whole Crazy Thing
brewcrewdue80 replied to splitterpfj's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
You're right about Supporting Braun. I'm backing him. I have to. Otherwise, the outcome is this. Braun's ability from day 1 to now shows no significant increase in skills. So, the answer is either he's cheated since he was in High School. Or, he cheated for no friggin' reason! He got nothing gained out of it! Maybe random occurences of ability to play through injury? But in terms of stats/skills. What did he gain if he cheated? So, I back him and support him in this. Because the saddest thing about a cheater, is a cheater who gained nothing from cheating! -
Braun, Biogenesis and the Whole Crazy Thing
brewcrewdue80 replied to splitterpfj's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
The story reads it could go down if the weeks ahead. I read in to that as a Month's time. So when MLB goes through with their 100game suspensions, Braun will be sitting not only the rest of the season but likely 30 or more games in to next season. As Stache said, I hope Braun takes this imposed guilty judgement thrust on him and spills all the details of his appeals case. And FWIW, maybe there's a Strike by the PA due to how this all went down. In which case the Brewers future problems over the next 2 years may be brighter because of this. Since we wont actually be watching them play baseball. -
You're right in terms of I feel like First week of May. Before that the Brewers were cruising out to the leads in the first inning. I think the number back then was something like 45 runs scored in 1st to around 16. Now though? Aoki/Segura take turns as being cooled off. Braun isn't Braun currently with that need to be on DL thumb. It's been 123 1st innings. Our starters cant keep the other team off the board in the 1st or 2nd combined.

The preview with the post Lohse saying it wasn't his arm it was location. Seeing 3 of those pitches, they broke fairly hard either away or in on the batter as I recall. I was actually impressed with the amount of movement I seen on them. I dont recall the MPH on the pitches. It's amazing to think of all those 6+ERA season Lohse had in his career. That the start, in Target Field of all places, is where he gives up 4HRs for the first time.

Braun, Biogenesis and the Whole Crazy Thing
brewcrewdue80 replied to splitterpfj's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
You read the article and it sounds every bit like the Witchhunt to nab Lance Armstrong. The guy is broke, lost his business and MLB is making sure they get what they want. There's a helluva good chance that Bosch rather than be completely broke within 1 year will suddenly be Millionaire times 10 in a year or more when this is said and done. I'd crumble under that circumstance. I hope they can put Bosch on the stand with a Lie Detector test in front of the judge. How do you even name names? When you have you drugs delivered to a code name by some other person and you never seen these code named people face to face once? I read the comment board briefly from the ESPN link. Oddly commented is that Braun is the only "White" ballplayer among all these names. The rest are Hispanic. -
Brewers acquire 3B Juan Francisco from Atlanta Braves
brewcrewdue80 replied to Invader3K's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
Well, you grow up behind the likes of Joey Votto and have the bat he has, you find a place to play him to reach the Big Leagues. I'm not as worried he has only a few games experience at 1b. It was more than Yuni/AGonez had combined. You have a big Lefty bench bat now in the mean time to mop up games at 1b/3b/OF even if called upon. AGonez to Francisco, the club just got a whole lot younger with the move with more power from the Left side. Who has a Power stroke from the Left side on this team? I read that he could be a cancer in the clubhouse though but hey, Morgan worked well for 1 year. Brought out "Beast Mode" And really, what if this guy pounds the ball and teams covet him? Could end up flipping him in less than 2 months of having him. Could be the kind of guy you Pair with Weeks/ARam/Hart in a deal no? -
Ely, pointing out Fiers/Davis/Prince/Thornburg as being successful picks when they have little to no real impact thus far for the team. Fiers had a seemingly flukish run that happens from time to time. I hope he finds whatever magic he had during that run again within the next season. Otherwise really, that's a failed pick, maybe moreso because that flash in the pan run he had gave such false hope the team's plans included him as the future rather than adjust to him being nothing more than mop up worker. Burgos wasn't really ready either but only called upon due to injuries. Prince and Davis were fillins and haven't gotten enough time to consider successful draftees. Thornburg a 3rd rounder is a wild card. But again brief and returned stint to AAA. Morris and Nelson aren't talked about in major publications as being really any kind of impact Major League Players. When one of the picks accrues I don't know say higher than 4WAR for their Career I think then we can talk about being a successful drafted player. No doubt though Keeling netting Juan Francisco is a type of pick that I'd have to deem as successful since it landed a ML player. And that was as a RP.

Perfect trading partner - Dodgers?
brewcrewdue80 replied to LouisEly's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
I believe they do but only so long as they can get close enough to believe they are contenders to trade for winning this season/next. Yasiel Puig's time has come for them. This leaves either Crawford/Ethier without a place to call home when Kemp is back. If they can find some team to take Ethier. I'm thinking they could flip part of that return and maybe Lee in to Aramis Ramirez at 3b for them. How's that lineup? Puig,Kemp,HanRam,Adrian Gonzalez,ARam? Selling Ethier though is likely a hard task. -
This is what I was leading towards to their success. Taking those Pitchers they drafted and or acquired in trade and recycling them rather quickly for pitching or other prospects down the road. Stache, no worries. I didn't go back farther in comparison to drafts as we all know we did well prior to 2006 and that nullifies any success Oakland had when suggesting they are beating us through better drafting. The one thing the bother me is you go back in Brewers Drafts and 2005 the Brewers drafted: Brantley 5th rd. Jemile Weeks 5th rd. Andrew Bailey 16th rd. Zach Braddock 18th rd. Jake Arrieta 26th rd. Lorenzo Cain in 2004 17th rd. Future ML Players in later round picks. And at least identified some potential players in the draft that didn't sign in Weeks/Bailey/Arrieta. Where's that been since?
