Micah Potter is at 640 minutes in the G-League vs 45 in the NBA. Ford is at 776 GL minutes vs 74 in the NBA. Sure, Davis was a lottery pick, but even he's only played 50 minutes so far in the NBA vs 353 in the G-League.

Give us your best tips on watching a game at AmFam
sveumrules replied to Brock Beauchamp's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
Tailgating or getting food from whichever bar one catches a shuttle from are probably the best pre-game options. Haven’t been over there in awhile, but there used to be a couple restaurants by like 52nd & Blue Mound where you could street park for free, grab a bite and then walk in to AmFam through Mitchell Blvd Park. I don’t think the food or selection inside the stadium are bad, necessarily, it’s just that the quality is inconsistent and people love to complain about overpriced things in general. For me personally, I normally get in a lil early so stuff is fresher off the grill & lines aren’t crazy, and rotate through the staples. Burger, dog, brat. Buy a couple two tree tallbois of Champagne to support my local beer vendor. Personal fave are the cheese fries on loge level. They have a better sauce that isn’t just nacho squeeze. If you’re on club level they have a carving station with different sandwiches throughout the year. Also think Ian’s Pizza is on field level by the kids area now and they have Mac n Cheese plus the more standard slices. -
He kind of is a unicorn, though. Among 104 pitchers with at least 250 IP since 2020 he is at 428 IP (9th) | 63 ERA- (1st) | 58 FIP- (1st) | 14.0 rWAR (1st) | 14.4 fWAR (1st) In the two seasons before signing his 9/324 mega deal Cole clocked 412 IP | 63 ERA- | 62 FIP- | 13.6 rWAR | 13.4 fWAR. If Burnes puts up another two seasons like his last couple few he’ll be hitting FA with a track record of dominance twice as long as Cole’s was before getting 9/324.

The only Brewers in history with a higher WAR than Sheets are Yount, Molitor, Braun, Lucroy, Cooper and Higuera. Unless someone is calling him a Top 5 Brewer he isn't really being overrated. Similar to Gallardo? Sheets is essentially Higuera across the board with a superior FIP... 1428 IP | 87 ERA- | 81 FIP- | 26.7 rWAR | 31.9 fWAR 1380 IP | 86 ERA- | 85 FIP- | 27.4 rWAR | 26.7 fWAR Yovani is a pretty clear tier below for me... 1289 IP | 93 ERA- | 91 FIP- | 17.1 rWAR | 17.5 fWAR Gallardo's best year by rWAR was 3.8, Sheets had two seasons far superior to that at 7.0 and 5.4. Yo's best by fWAR was 3.7 with Sheets topping that three times (8.0, 4.8, 4.0) and matching it three more times (3.8, 3.8, 3.7).

Yelich is an 840 OPS All-Star hitter with MVP hardware. Of course he's only put up 4.3 WAR since 2020 so his contract (6/162.5) is about a hundred million underwater. Don't see how Bryant (4.2 WAR since 2020) with 6/158 remaining is any better of a deal. -

Yup, Monforts took over in 2005. Since then Rockies have won the 26th most games in baseball with only the Marlins, Pirates, Orioles and Royals winning fewer. Maybe they've been trying to win, but they haven't done a very good job. -

Maybe small in terms of geographical reach with LA to the North, Mexico to the South, Ocean to the West and desert to the East, but San Diego has the 8th largest population with a sky high cost of living. Looks like median household income in SD is 89K with median home prices around 750-850K. Meanwhile MKE is around 45K and 175-190K. Padres also own property around Petco that I would imagine generates way more income year round than the Brewers parking lot does for 80-90 days a year. Sure, San Diego and Milwaukee have similar media market sizes…but that’s about it. -
No doubt, the health issues are the primary thing holding back Mitchell’s profile followed by questions about how much he’ll hit. All I’m saying is seems somewhat disingenuous to then give an aggressive ranking to a guy in the same system who just missed half his first season due to injury. Sure, Mitchell has a longer documented history of health stuff, scouts have been on this kid for like 8 years at this point going back to HS/college in SoCal. They’ve had much less history with Black as a kid from Aurora, Ontario (prolly never got hurt playing hockey though) who went to Wright State. If Black puts up a full season at AA/AAA in 2023 while looking playable at CF/2B with something like a 125 wRC+ and his typically excellent BB/K ratios, that’s a no doubt Top 100 guy for me. Add some power to the toolbox and get that SLG higher than the OBP, might even be talking Top 50.
-
Interesting considering Black had two injuries himself (one fairly significant) this year in his first full season and has a similar lack of game power with worse raw power grades as well. For me, Mitchell’s defensive certainty and already reaching MLB gives him a higher floor than Black, who clearly has a superior hit/approach tool but has yet to reach AA. Have to think Mitchell’s physical advantages (better speed, glove, arm, raw power potential) gives him the higher ceiling to go along with that higher floor.
-
The Quero placement is aggressive but I can squint and see the justification between his age relative to league, strong defensive reputation, promising offensive production in his first full season and then looking good in the AFL to top it off. Black at 96 I have a harder time seeing. His tool box is pretty much just hit/approach at this point. Has shown sneaky wheels, but probably won’t be a big SB guy in MLB, has played all over including CF/2B but it’s more out of trying to find a spot than out of being a plus defender, which leaves him as likely a low power LF/1B. To me that reads like Michael Brantley if everything breaks right. If he’d shown more power, or had a little more defensive certainty I could see the placement, but for now I’d have a hard time ranking him over Turang/Mitchell who have already had success at higher levels while also profiling as plus up the middle defenders.

Yes, that is the best realistic hope for any fan of any MLB team because the postseason is largely random and no amount of money can overcome that, though Cohen is certainly trying. For 25 years from 1983 to 2007 we didn’t even have that degree of hope, so yes I’ve derived happiness from & been entertained by the most recent five year stretch where we won the 6th most games in MLB, even if we were one of the 25 teams not to win a World Series during that time. -

Yes, spending money improves a team’s chances but doesn’t guarantee anything. That’s literally the story all the stats I post are telling. -

Cots lists both the 2015 Royals and 2017 Astros as ranking 17th in OD payroll. 2021 Braves we’re 14th, so just barely in the top half That’s three of the last eight WS winners. How high do you believe ownership can go on payroll? Roster Resource currently has the Crew at $120M, compared to STL ($180M), ATL ($200M), PHI ($243M), SDP ($251M) and NYM ($361M). That’s quite a large gap to overcome. They’d need to bump payroll by 50 to 100 percent to even hang with the non-Mets teams. Here’s how the Brewers stack up with regards to estimated owner wealth and franchise value… MIL: $700M | $1.28B SDP: $3B | $1.575B PHI: $3.4B | $2.3B STL: $4B | $2.45B LAD: $5B | $4.075B ATL: $8B | $2.1B NYM: $11.9B | $2.65B Mark A is much closer in wealth to you & me than he is to the owners of the other currently competitive NL clubs. I’m not quite ready to make definitive statements like “this franchise will never win a WS as long as has this ownership group” because I can’t see into the future, but yes, until major changes are made to the economic structure of MLB the Brewers (& every other small market team plus many of the rich ones too) will remain long shots to win the World Series. -

The “professional minor league” team has won the 8th most games in MLB over the last 15 years. Going by performance (& not just economics) there are a lot of teams much more primed for relegation. Who have we really lost since Mark A took over the team anyway? Fielder? That deal would have handcuffed the organization for years unless they ponied up for that good insurance. Hardy turned into Gomez turned into Hader, Houser and down the line Moose via Maverick. Lucroy turned into Brinson turned into Yelich. Many Brewers fans would say two of the worst transactions since Mark A took over were the second Braun extension and the Yelich extension. Signing your own really good players for big money isn’t a risk free endeavor either. Even now that we’re reaching the point of starting to deal the stars of the Stearns era, Hader has already turned into Contreras and Gasser, another trade that looks to have the potential to provide value for years to come. I’d love to extend any of Burnes, Woody or to a lesser extent Adames, but between Mark A’s personal wealth not being on par with other MLB owners, Milwaukee being one of the smallest markets in MLB, the Brewers having one of the measliest TV contracts and Yelich already being on the books for 6/162.5 with a full NTC as someone we’re hoping can keep eking out 2.5 WAR seasons…I can also understand how they might not have the payroll capacity to do so without sacrificing future flexibility beyond a level they are comfortable with. -

There is no “doing whatever necessary” to bring a World Series to Milwaukee. The Yankees have spent 2.5 Billion on payroll since 2009 to not make it to a single World Series. The Dodgers have been the most dominant regular season team of the last decade, spending about 2.2 Billion on payroll with one pandemic WS to show for it. The Angels have spent just shy of 2 Billion on payroll since 2010 to make the playoffs one time. The Mets, Phillies and Padres spending paid off in 2022, but they all missed the playoffs with Top 10 payrolls in 2021. No amount of money can overcome the randomness of the postseason. -
Raucous Arrowhead crowd no doubt helps, but Chiefs defense looked pretty sharp in the first half.

The Five Best Right Fielders in Brewers History
sveumrules replied to Harold Hutchison's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
Yelich’s peak makes him an easy #1 for me. I’d have Sixto (125 OPS+ | 19.1 WAR) at #2 over Burnitz (123 OPS+ | 15.7 WAR) and Hart (116 OPS+ | 15.5 WAR) in the 3/4 spots. Deer (112 OPS+ | 6.9 WAR) is obviously a sentimental favorite for a lot of people (myself included) but I’d probably give a nod to the late Darryl Hamilton (100 OPS+ | 11.0 WAR) for that #5 spot.- 7 replies
